Sheriff of Cochise County: “Lame Argument” of the Federal Government is “Ludicrous”

“Larry Dever is serving his fourth term as sheriff of Cochise County, which, as a border county, is part of the entry route taken regularly by illegal aliens. He believes this case will be appealed all the way to the Supreme Court.
“Our best chance at a favorable decision is…to solve this once and for all. States have a right to protect themselves,” Dever contends. He adds that “the lame argument in federal government that this law somehow interferes with their ability to enforce immigration law is just ludicrous” because “they’re not getting it done to begin with.”
He further points out that the federal government has “been talking about partnerships and empowerment since September 11 with state and local law enforcement authorities to get the job done. Arizona steps up [and] says, ‘We’re ready to take on our part,’ and they sue us.”
The sheriff assures that while the decision must be appealed, he and other enforcement officers will continue to use the laws and resources available to protect the people they serve.”

SureFire Releases First AA Battery Flashlight

Fountain Valley, CA — SureFire, LLC, manufacturer of high-end illumination tools and tactical products, has released a new model to its popular Outdoorsman series of flashlights. Like other members of the Outdoorsman family, the new E2L AA features a dual-output, solid-state LED emitter; tailcap switching; a TIR lens, and a weather-resistant aerospace aluminum body that’s been Mil-Spec hard anodized. It differs, however, in its power source. The E2L AA, as its name suggests, runs on either two AA lithium or AA alkaline batteries—a first for SureFire.
The progression of LED technology has finally led to a reasonable output/runtime combination that measured up to SureFire standards. For nearly twenty years, SureFire was the only flashlight manufacturer to use lithium 123A batteries, the only sufficient compact power source to run the high-output incandescent lamps that made SureFire famous. However, 123A batteries aren’t as cheap as AA and are harder to find. AA batteries are still not as powerful as the 123A so the E2L AA Outdoorsman was designed primarily for outdoor use, but it’s built to the same standards as its battle-proven brothers.
Of course, a choice of batteries is not the only factor that makes the E2L AA a great fit for the Great Outdoors. Its power-regulated LED generates two output levels: 80 lumens of light on high (four times the light of a typical two-D-cell flashlight), perfect for searching or signaling, or three lumens on low, enough light for navigating, reading a map, or other close-range tasks without compromising night-adapted vision. The flashlight runs for nine hours on a set of AA lithium batteries at its high setting and 60 hours at its low setting, allowing a user to better manage runtime by switching between the two levels as needed. A Total Internal Reflection (TIR) lens gathers the solid-state LED’s light and shapes it into a versatile beam with plenty of reach and enough surround light to accommodate peripheral vision. And to protect the E2L AA from the elements, its Mil-Spec hard-anodized aerospace aluminum body is sealed with O-rings and gaskets to keep out moisture and dirt.

Verdict’s In: Arizona Judge Lacks Good Reason

“Arizona’s immigration law supposedly “would impose a ‘distinct, unusual and extraordinary’ burden on legal resident aliens that only the federal government has the authority to impose.†So asserted Federal District Judge Susan Bolton in her injunction of the new Arizona immigration law on Wednesday.
“Given the large number of people who are technically ‘arrested’ but never booked into jail or perhaps even transported to a law enforcement facility, detention time for this category of arrestee will certainly be extended during an immigration status verification,†Ms. Bolton wrote in her decision.
But this reasoning makes little sense. Anyone — no matter what their accent or looks — who is “technically ‘arrested’” by police is required to show some type of ID. The minor exception is when the arrestee happens to be known to the police already. If unable to provide a basic ID, the police officer has no choice but to detain the individual until identification can be made.
This is very basic. Police can’t issue a ticket, even for a minor speeding offense, without being able to properly identify the person.
Despite the picture painted by Bolton, an immigration check for someone “technically ‘arrested’” imposes no more of a burden than the individual already faces. There are no more documents that are required or additional procedures under Arizona’s immigration law. Any regular ID will do: a driver’s license, a non-operating identification license, valid tribal enrollment card or other form of tribal identification, or “any valid United States federal, state, or local government issued identification.”

In fact, it is just the beginning, and at the end of what is certain to be a long legal struggle, Arizona will prevail in its right to protect our citizens. I am deeply grateful for the overwhelming support we have received from across our nation in our efforts to defend against the failures of the federal government.
“I have consulted with my legal counsel about our next steps. We will take a close look at every single element Judge Bolton removed from the law, and we will soon file an expedited appeal at the United States Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit.
“For anyone willing to see it — the crisis is as clear as is the federal government’s failure to address it.
“The judge herself noted that the stash houses where smugglers hide immigrants from Mexico before bringing them into the country’s interior have become a fixture on the news in Arizona and that, ‘You can barely go a day without a location being found in Phoenix where there are numerous people being harbored.’â€
“When I signed the bill on April 23rd, I said, SB 1070 – represents another tool for our state to use as we work to address a crisis we did not create and the federal government has actively refused to fix. The law protects all of us, every Arizona citizen and everyone here in our state lawfully. And, it does so while ensuring that the constitutional rights of ALL in Arizona are undiminished – holding fast to the diversity that has made Arizona so great.
“I will battle all the way to the Supreme Court, if necessary, for the right to protect the citizens of Arizona. Meanwhile, I also know we still have work to do in confronting the fear-mongers, those dealing in hate and lies and economic boycotts that seek to do Arizona harm.
“We have already made some progress in waking up Washington. But the question still remains: will Washington do its job, and put an end to the daily operations of smugglers in our nation, or will the delays and sidesteps continue? I believe that the defenders of the rule of law will ultimately succeed with us in our demand for action.â€

“Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio is warning that illegal aliens may have gained access to a U.S. Army installation in Arizona that also serves as the nation’s largest military intelligence-training center.“I have deep concerns that people who come into our country illegally have managed to gain access onto an active U.S. military installation,” Arpaio said in a statement today. “This cause for concern goes well beyond the argument that people are only committing the crime of wanting to work in this country.”
Arpaio’s detectives raided Valley View Building Services in central Phoenix today, searching for 25 people suspected of identity theft and fraud.”

DOJ Accused of Stalling on MOVE Act for Voters in Military

Anti-Illegal Immigration Group Calls for ‘Safe Passage’ of Illegals Out of U.S.

“An anti-illegal immigration group is calling on the Obama administration to ensure a smooth exit for illegal immigrants who are trying to leave the U.S. due to the weak economy and Arizona’s strict new immigration law.
Americans for Legal Immigration PAC (ALIPAC) is urging U.S. citizens to pressure the White House and the Homeland Security Department to establish “safe departure” border checkpoints along the U.S. border for illegal immigrants so they can leave without fear of being detained or prosecuted for immigration crimes.
“The peaceful and gradual exodus of illegals from Arizona shows there is no need for comprehensive immigration reform amnesty,” William Gheen, president of the group, said in a written statement. “Comprehensive immigration enforcement works and has the desired effect without mass deportations.”
Gheen said the safe passage would ensure that illegals “leave in an orderly fashion, instead of trying risky desert crossings, paying money to the cartels for passage south, or fleeing to other states.”

It’s always a sad day when someone you admire tremendously, who has entertained and challenged you for years lets you down and reveals themselves to really stand up only for themselves instead of the ideas of freedom they claim to support.
Reason Magazine highlights some deeply discouraging remarks from Penn Jillette, the libertarian co-host of the extraordinarily great Showtime show “Penn and Teller’s Bullsh*tâ€:
Reason Magazine: Are there any groups you won’t go after?
Penn: We haven’t tackled Scientology because Showtime doesn’t want us to. Maybe they have deals with individual Scientologists—I’m not sure. And we haven’t tackled Islam because we have families.
Reason Magazine: Meaning, you won’t attack Islam because you’re afraid it’ll attack back …
Penn: Right, and I think the worst thing you can say about a group in a free society is that you’re afraid to talk about it—I can’t think of anything more horrific.
Y’know there are a whole lot of prominent people — who do have families — who have had the courage to tell the truth about Islam. Robert Spencer, Pamela Geller, Mark Steyn, Trey Parker, Matt Stone, Geert Wilders… It’s actually a fairly long list with people who would be much more prominent targets than Penn and Teller.
When Jillette says things like he has here it accomplishes one thing: it empowers the enemy. It tells them to keep making threats and to keep killing people because ultimately it works because we in the West are too complacent, comfortable, and selfish to care.

The book is a collection of illustrations, cartoons & essays that serves as a preview for The Infidel, a story about twin brothers whose Muslim background comes to the forefront of their lives on 9/11. One responds by creating a counter-jihad superhero comic book called Pigman, as the other fully submits to Islam. “Whether it’s a religion or a political movement, the most effective critics are always those who were once believers. Whether it’s David Horowitz dissecting the American Left, Bart Ehrman challenging fundamentalist Christianity, or Ayaan Hirsi Ali critiquing Islam, those that have been on the inside can cut the deepest.
Not all critics write academic tomes. Ex-Muslim cum Objectivist Bosch Fawstin’s new book will contain several essays explaining his challenging, often controversial views on Islam and the War on Terror. But as a cartoonist, Fawstin is the ideal person to make the definitive anti-Jihad superhero: Pigman.
Bosch Fawstin: The enemy is Islam, the so-called moderate Islam of the West is not really true Islam at all.
BF: They say Islam, we say anything but Islam, leaving the troubling impression that the enemy’s religion is something other than Islam.
There is no “Political Islam” or “Totalitarian Islam” that is distinguishable from Islam itself.
Islam is normatively political and totalitarian. We have evaded the true meaning of Islam in the name of respect for religion. But we cannot avoid the consequences of doing so.
Mohammed was a Muslim and his religion was Islam; he was not an Islamist practicing Islamism. He was a Muslim who practiced Islam and engaged in its violent Jihad, forcing Islam into a world it failed to get into on merit.
And any Muslim who is peace-loving and tolerant is by implication condemning their violent, intolerant “prophet” and the means by which their religion was spread.
How Islam spread tells us exactly what Islam means. When the moral standard for an entire culture is a bad guy who crossed the line as a way of life, it explains why his most devout followers are the most violent among Muslims.
We can try our best to stay clear of Islam, but Muslims have proven that they will never keep Islam to themselves unless they are forced to.
It is a faith that sanctions any evil against those who are not part of it. Our not calling this evil by its name, Islam, is sanctioning it and leaving ourselves at the mercy of those who will stop at nothing to bury all we hold dear.”

Federal judge blocks key parts of Arizona immigration law SB 1070

“A federal judge in Phoenix on Wednesday blocked key provisions of Arizona’s controversial immigration law from taking effect as scheduled Thursday, granting in part an injunction requested by the Obama administration.
U.S. District Judge Susan R. Bolton ruled that the injunction would apply to the portion of the state law that requires police to try to determine the immigration status of a person they arrest, stop or detain while enforcing other laws if they reasonably suspect the person is in the United States illegally.
Bolton said in her 36-page ruling that it was “not in the public interest” for Arizona to enforce provisions that preempt federal enforcement of immigration law.
Also put on hold were parts of the law requiring foreigners to apply for or carry certain documents, making it a state crime for undocumented workers “to solicit, apply for or perform work,” and mandating verification of the immigration status of any arrested person prior to release, the ruling said.”

Rangel introduces Bill to Create Cumpulsory Draft.

“A bill introduced in the House of Representatives by Rep. Charles Rangel, D-N.Y., would reinstate a compulsory military draft during wartime and require U.S. citizens not selected for military duty to perform a “national-service obligation” – as defined by President Obama – for a minimum of two years.
Rangel introduced the Universal National Service Act, or H.R. 5741, on July 15. The measure was referred to the House Armed Services Subcommittee on Military Personnel on July 23.
Rangel introduced similar bills in 2003, 2006 and 2007. His current bill does not have a co-sponsor.
Rangel took to the floor of the House to reintroduce H.R. 5741, stating, “I have introduced legislation to reinstate the draft and to make it permanent during time of war. It is H.R. 5741, and what this does is to make everyone between the ages of 18 and 42 – whether they’re men or women, whether they’re straight or gay – to have the opportunity to defend this great country whenever the president truly believes that our national security is threatened.”
- The bill provides for a national-service obligation – either military or civilian – for every citizen and permanent resident, male and female, of the U.S., aged 18 to 42.
- Persons may be inducted to perform military service only if a declaration of war is in effect, or if the president declares a national emergency necessitating the induction of persons to perform military service and immediately informs Congress of the reasons for the declaration.
- Defines “national service” as either military or civilian service as defined by the president that promotes national or homeland security.
- Gives the president the authority to establish the numbers of persons to be selected for military service and the means of selection.
- Requires those not selected for military service to perform their national-service obligation in a civilian capacity for a period of two years.
- Directs the president to prescribe the regulations necessary to carry out the act.
- Deferments for education are only permitted through completion of high school, to a maximum age of 20.
- Deferments may be made for physical or mental disability, or under claims of conscientious objector.
Rangel: “What troubles me most about the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan is the total indifference to the suffering and loss of life among our brave young soldiers on the battlefield,” Rep. Rangel said. “The reason is that so few families have a stake in the war which is being fought by other people’s children.
Sheriff Joe Arpaio ready for SB 1070 protests

“The sheriff of the most populous county in Arizona [Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio] says he’s “not going to put up with any civil disobedience” when the state’s new immigration law takes effect.
Arpaio says that if protesters want to block his jail, he’ll put them in it.
The Arizona law, which takes effect Thursday, requires officers enforcing other laws to check a person’s immigration status if they suspect the person is in the country illegally.
He says it’s “a crime to be here illegally and everyone should enforce” the law.
