From Seattle Times:
A federal judge in Seattle has upheld a decision by the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) to ban ammunition originally designed for AK-74 assault rifles.
From Rifle Dynamics:
The announcement prompted many gun dealers to head to their favorite shop to purchase a firearm. At the Four Seasons shop in Woburn, there was a line out the door. “We saw the email from Carl who said they wouldn’t be able to sell them after today,” Bruce Sterling said. “It seemed like it made a lot of sense to come and get an AR-15 today.”
Healey says the enforcement notice sent to gun sellers and manufacturers clarifies what constitutes a “copy” or “duplicate” weapon under the state’s assault weapons ban, including copies of the Colt AR-15 and the Kalashnikov AK-47.
From American Rifleman:
One such company that has been working to provide its customers with 100-percent American-made AKs for a while now is Century Arms. Among these offerings is the affordably priced Red Army Standard RAS47, a name that gives a nod back to the Cold War-era Soviet Union. which made the AKs one of the most ubiquitous small arms in modern history. This version of the rifle is modeled after the original Kalashnikov design with an eye toward reliability and a fair price.
P.W. Arms, Inc., a wholesaler in Redmond, filed suit against the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives in a Seattle federal court on Dec. 18. The lawsuit alleges the ATF incorrectly classified the ammo 7N6, a 5.45x39mm rifle round, as “armor piercing” and in turn prohibited it from importation after permitting the company to do so.
Rifle Dynamics and SilencerCo bring suppression to the AK platform
VEPR Carbine: $1,329
The MK47 is an AR platform that shoots 7.62×39 and accepts AK mags.
During my 1,000-round test, the AKM PMAG jammed once, when an old round’s bullet dislodged from the shell casing, spilling powder inside the magazine body. I consider this to be a 100 percent success rate, since it was the fault of the round, not the magazine.
ASPAR ARMS has three rifles that are chambered for the new round.
It hasn’t been that long since the President called for the ban of magazines capable of holding more than 10 rounds. Now the military is set to purchase almost 600,000 AK magazines to be sent to Afghanistan. He is comfortable with the military using those magazines to kill people but it completely against an American civilian having one to defend themselves.
From The Washington Examiner:
Army officials told Secrets that the 30-round magazines, which would be banned under Obama’s gun control proposals, are going to Afghanistan. But unlike the Pentagon’s controversial purchase of Russian helicopters for Afghan special forces, the Soviet-Russian-styled AK-47 magazines are likely to be purchased from an American firm.
