Guns: U.S. vs Australia

From National Review:

“Australia” is Obama’s preferred euphemism for that most cherished of gun-control ideals: mass confiscation of the citizenry’s weapons.

You will notice that the president doesn’t exactly spell out what following Australia’s model would entail. He speaks instead of “commonsense gun-control legislation,” “closing the gun-show loophole,” and “universal background checks.”

But the Australian 1996 National Agreement on Firearms was not a benign set of commonsense gun-control rules: It was a gun-confiscation program rushed through the Australian parliament just twelve days after a 28-year-old man killed 35 people with a semi-automatic rifle in the Tasmanian city of Port Arthur. The Council of Foreign relations summarizes the Aussie measure nicely:

Plot To Kill Queen of England Stopped

From The Daily Express:

One plot foiled by MI5 involved a massive bomb blast at a ceremony in London on August 15 on the 70th anniversary of VJ Day. The Queen, Prince Charles and other senior members of the Royal Family were present.

Another foiled attack was aimed at Armed Forces Day in London in June.

Six UK terror plots have been thwarted in 12 months, Mr Cameron said. Amin, Khan and another Islamist fighter died when a precision guided missile fired by an RAF remote-controlled drone blasted their vehicle near the Islamic State stronghold of Raqqah in Syria on August 21.

Individuals Need Weapons to Stop Unforeseen Attacks

From Fox News:

After the Charlie Hebdo massacre in Paris earlier this month, France placed10,000 uniformed soldiers in front of Jewish sites across the country.  Unfortunately, this is unlikely to be very effective.

Possibly this lesson is why this past week a leading European rabbi, Menachem Margolin, called for European Jews to be able to carry handguns.  Of course, in countries that won’t even let off-duty police carry guns, that isn’t going to happen.

Parisians, who were as close as a dozen yards away from the terrorists, took videos of the killers, but they were powerless to stop the attackers.

French gun laws only disarmed the law-abiding citizens.

Englishmen Call For a Relaxing of Gun Control in Wake of Paris Attacks

From American Thinker:

This is where we find ourselves now. Every citizen in Europe and the UK faces the risk of an Islamic attack merely while going about normal day-to-day business. UK citizens in particular face this risk whilst being denied weapons of self defense. In the past I have fully and enthusiastically supported the UK’s complete ban on hand guns. But immediately after the killing of Lee Rigby I began to reconsider the wisdom of that ban and I now utterly oppose it. As things stand in the UK, hand guns are illegal. For those shotguns you could own, extremely strict licensing specifically disallows self defense as a motive for ownership and so the old adage “In countries where guns are illegal, only the criminals have guns” is the frankly mad situation we now have in the UK.

From The Algemeiner:

What happened in Paris, however, has now led me to modify my opposition. What happens when the state does not protect its citizens? There have now been repeated murderous assaults on Jews in France and elsewhere. Isn’t it time for them to be armed? It is the principle of the English philosopher Hobbes that we relinquish some of our freedoms to the state in exchange for its protection.

Where they fail, the contract is void. Europe has a strong tradition of restricting individuals from having access to firearms – even the police under normal conditions. As a result, its citizens are far less likely to be killed. But if assaults on Jews are increasing in France, I believe those Jews who remain must be prepared to arm themselves.

Women Sexually Assaulted by Libyan Soldiers Being Trained in Britain

From The Daily Mail:

Two Libyan soldiers who were being trained in the UK behaved like a ‘pack preying on women’ as they stalked them in the dark to sexually assault them, a court has heard.

The court heard how the soldiers – who all appeared in court wearing tracksuits – are based at Bassingbourn Barracks some 14 miles outside Cambridge.

Prosecutor Paul Brown told the court: ‘The most serious aspect of it it there are males targeting females under the cover of darkness.

The worst part about this is the entire thing, from A to Z, is the fault of the British government. The government brought those men in to the country and allowed for this possibility. That alone is bad enough, but the government also prevented those women from defending themselves by not allowing the possession of firearms. The entire situation is terrible but it is a good thing the women still have their lives, no thanks to the British government.

Cody Wilson Interview With The Gaurdian

From The Business Insider:

It’s a gun. It works. And any nut with access to a 3D printer can print one in the privacy of their bedroom and then … well, you get the picture. The plans include a metal shank so that it’ll show up in an x-ray scanner, but it is the work of moments to remove it. And while it is an argument that has a different resonance in the US, where any aforesaid nut can simply go out and buy a gun in a shop, and the rights of nuts to go and buy such guns is enshrined in the constitution, even there, it has caused shock waves. In Britain, where we hope our robbers carry nothing more than a big stick and arm our police officers accordingly, it’s a potential societal revolution that none of us asked for.

One must remember that the interviewer is from England and hostile to most of Cody’s ideas and most of The United States’ ideals as well.

Muslim bus drivers refuse to let guide dogs on board

'Stunned': George Herridge, 73, was twice asked by bus drivers to leave their vehicles because of his guide dog, a black labrador

“Blind passengers are being ordered off buses or refused taxi rides because Muslim drivers or passengers object to their ‘unclean’ guide dogs.

One pensioner, a cancer sufferer, told how had twice been confronted by drivers and asked to get off the bus because of his guide dog, and had also faced hostility at a hospital and in a supermarket over the animal.”

Montreal: Veiled women breeze through security

A screenshot taken from a video posted recently on YouTube showing a group of female passengers boarding a plane at Montreal's Pierre Elliott Trudeau Airport. Photograph by: YouTube, YouTube

“OTTAWA – Transport Minister John Baird said a video posted to YouTube showing veiled passengers boarding a plane without showing their faces at Montreal’s Trudeau International Airport was “deeply disturbing.”

The video, filmed July 11 and posted last month by a British traveller, purports to show a man presenting passports to an Air Canada check-in clerk for himself and four women, two of whom have veils covering their faces, two of whom do not.

The clerk does not check to see the faces of the veiled women, and all five board flight AC 864 from Montreal to Heathrow.”
