Court Rules Gun Owners Are Dangerous and Forfeit Other Rights

From National Review:

So, if concealed-carry permit holders are presumptively dangerous, does this mean that they forfeit other constitutional rights? Wynn explained (approvingly) that under the majority’s reasoning they certainly do:

I see no basis — nor does the majority opinion provide any — for limiting our conclusion that individuals who choose to carry firearms are categorically dangerous to the Terry frisk inquiry. Accordingly, the majority decision today necessarily leads to the conclusion that individuals who elect to carry firearms forego other constitutional rights, like the Fourth Amendment right to have law enforcement officers “knock-and-announce” before forcibly entering homes. . . . Likewise, it is difficult to escape the conclusion that individuals who choose to carry firearms necessarily face greater restriction on their concurrent exercise of other constitutional rights, like those protected by the First Amendment.

DOJ Redacts References To ISIS In Orlando Shooting 911 Call

From Fox News:

“I pledge allegiance to [omitted] may God protect him [in Arabic], on behalf of [omitted],” Mateen told the dispatcher.

Assistant Special Agent in Charge Ron Hopper defended the deletions.

“[Mateen] does not represent the religion of Islam, but a perverted view,” Hopper said, later adding: “Part of the redacting is meant to not give credence to individuals who have done terrorist attacks in the past. We’re not gonna propagate their violent rhetoric.”

Texas Reaches 1 Million Concealed Handgun Licenses

From AllGov.com:

As of April 30, there were 1,017,618 active handgun license holders in Texas, according to the state agency that oversees the process, the Department of Public Safety. That means there are more people in Texas with permission to carry a gun than there are residents of the city of Fort Worth. Texas’ numbers far exceed those in several other states. Oklahoma has more than 251,000. South Carolina has 276,084. Washington state, 534,978. Tennessee, 555,865. But at least one state has more license holders: Florida, with 1,743,954.

However, Texas, with 5,672 permits issued per 100,000 adults 21 and over, is not the state with the most gun permits per capita. Florida (11,965 permits per 100,000 adults), Tennessee (11,851 per 100,000 adults) and Washington state (10,635 per 100,000 adults) are some of the leaders by that measure.

Tampa Bay Times Anti-gun Editorial

Tampa Bay Times:

It’s been a banner session in Tallahassee for gun zealots and the National Rifle Association and a terrible one for common sense and public safety. In the past weeks, the Senate passed a bill allowing gun owners to carry their weapons in public during a declared state of emergency. It also moved closer to allowing guns on college campuses. The House, meanwhile, killed a bill that would have barred backyard shooting ranges. With the state and the Tampa Bay area awash in gun violence, it was a stunning display of this Legislature’s blatant disregard for public safety.

Ammoland’s response:

In an attempt to prove this premise, they touch on the “contrived” arguments for campus carry, arguments that rest on the idea of armed women stopping “murderers and rapists.”

The problem with this line of thinking is that conservatives believe women are as capable of stopping murderers and rapists as men are, given one important tool…a gun. Conservatives do not agree with the Times, Salon, Shannon Watts, Moms Demand Action, Everytown for Gun Safety, and others who [are paid to] or pretend the idea of arming women is foolish.

Bill Allows CCW Permits to Under-21s in the Military

Florida, the vanguard of pro gun legislation, has proposed to allow concealed carry permits to anyone in the military regardless of age, as long as they are qualified.

From Guns.com:

The bill, officially known as House Bill 463, was authored by Florida Carry, a non-profit, non-partisan, grassroots organization dedicated to advancing the fundamental civil right of all Floridians to keep and bear arms for self-defense.

“Those who defend our country overseas should be able to defend themselves and their families at home. There have been too many incidences of violence against our troops who have just returned from overseas deployments and found themselves defenseless at home” the group said in a press release.

From: Allen West for Congress

… Allen West knows that for our children to live their dreams, they need to be safe. In his Army career, Col. West has been honored many times, including a Bronze Star, three Meritorious Service Medals, three Army Commendation Medals (one with Valor), and a Valorous Unit Award. He received his valor award as a Captain in Desert Shield/Storm, was the US Army ROTC Instructor of the Year in 1993, and was a Distinguished Honor Graduate III Corps Assault School. He proudly wears the Army Master parachutist badge, Air Assault badge, Navy/Marine Corps parachutist insignia, Italian parachutist wings, and German proficiency badge (Bronze award).

MIAMI (CBS4) ―

After a sleepless and exciting night, Allen West is plotting his next move as the new U.S. Congressman of the 22nd district. He said his priorities remain the same as outlined on the campaign trail.

“That’s the fiscal security and the physical security of the American people,” he said. “So you look at right back here over my shoulder, the Winn-Dixie that has closed down. We’ve got to get our small businesses and corporations back open and up.”
