An avid huntress from Wanaka, New Zealand says she’s been getting death threats after posting a series of risqué photos of some of her successful hunts — criticism she says fails to take into account that her family eats the animals she kills in part as an attempt to avoid promoting factory farms.

Gun Ban Would Decimate Wildlife Conservation

Almost $1 billion each year goes to state wildlife and natural resource agencies courtesy of checks written by firearms, ammunition, and related manufacturers. It is the result of an 11 percent excise tax on firearms, ammunition, and related goods known as Pittman-Robertson, or the Federal Aid in Wildlife Restoration Act of 1937.
NJ Group Wants To Ban Hunting

Energized by wins such as arbitrarily pushing the bear hunt off state lands (over 60% of the available bear hunting land in the state) and wins in other towns such as Holmdel, anti-hunters are now trying to sneak a through a legal backdoor to ban hunting, by going to each of New Jersey’s 565 municipalities and ban our sports town by town, borough by borough, until there is no land left to hunt in the state.
California Bans Lead Ammo For Hunting
As a reminder to anyone hunting in California this year, the state’s full lead ammunition ban will take effect July 1. California’s lead ammo ban, which was officially signed as a new law in 2013, required the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) to gradually build up to a full prohibition.
More Federal Lands Open For Hunting

The proposed rule would include big changes such opening Green Bay National Wildlife Refuge in Wisconsin to hunting and fishing for the first time and opening of Seedskadee National Wildlife Refuge in Wyoming to deer and elk hunting for the first time. Other facilities would see smaller expansions with the net result of some 1.4 million new acres of public land opened for access to sportsmen.

MN To Add Gun Safety To P.E. Classes

The omnibus environment and natural resources spending bill, SF 7, was approved by lawmakers last week by a large, bipartisan vote and presented to Walz. Included in the plan is $500,000 from the state’s game and fish fund for grants to school districts to increase firearms safety, trap shooting, archery, hunting, and angling activities in physical education classes.
Botswana To Issue New Hunting Licenses After 5 Years

Citing increased human-wildlife conflicts and deaths after a five-year ban on elephant hunting, the African country of Botswana is now reinstating the practice.
Home to the largest population of elephants in Africa, Botswana says their herds have been exploding in size, growing from 50,000 in 1991 to more than 130,000 today. A 2001 government Elephant Management Plan recommended that Botswana’s environment could best maintain only 54,000 of the animals. This, according to President Dr. Mokgweetsi E.K Masisi, is “far more than Botswana’s fragile environment, already stressed by drought and other effects of climate change, can safely accommodate.â€

Scotland Succumbs To Mob On Hunter

Numerous respondents demanded that Scotland do something to stop such hunts from taking place. The outcry eventually grew strong enough that Nicola Sturgeon, the First Minister of Scotland, pledged the government would “review the current situation and consider whether changes to the law [for hunting such animals] are required.â€
Fox News reports that Scotland had now brought charges against Switlyk for “firearms offenses.†Police released a statement saying, “Following several complaints of wild goat ‘trophy’ hunting on Islay in (October), Police Scotland can now confirm that a 33-year-old woman and a 41-year-old man from the USA have been reported to the Procurator Fiscal for firearms offences.â€
