Incoming DNC Head Wants All Gun Purchases Screened
From The Hill:
Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz said the current law, which allows private firearm sales without background checks, is “outrageous.” The Florida Democrat is sponsoring a soon-to-be-released proposal extending the screening requirements to all gun purchases, commercial or private.
This will only hurt the Democratic Party and the President if any kind of bill is introduced. Every time the Democrats propose something related to guns we all know that it is intended as a stepping stone to eventual disarmament of the American public. For those that have forgotten:
Second Amendment to the United States Constitution
“A well regulated militia, being necessary for the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.” (emphasis added)
American Expats Fight For Their Rights
The Second Amendment Foundation is suing the Attorney General on behalf of Americans living abroad who, under federal law, are not able to purchase firearms when in the country.
The Second Amendment Foundation’s challenge to a federal law that prevents American citizens who reside outside the United States from purchasing firearms while they are in this country will be allowed to move forward, under a ruling today by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia.
“This is a significant ruling in our favor,†said SAF Executive Vice President Alan Gottlieb. “Many American citizens face the same dilemma as Mr. Dearth. They are good citizens, they’ve committed no crimes, and they would certainly be allowed to exercise their Second Amendment rights, except for the fact that they live in another country.â€
When a person wants to buy a firearm they must fill out federal form 4473 which asks for a state of residence. Expats have no state residence.

Backup Gun: Smith and Wesson M&P340
Posted by Brian in Handguns, Opinion, Smith & Wesson on 25/Feb/2011 01:02
Tactical Wire just wrote a a review of the Smith and Wesson revolver as a good choice for a backup carry gun.
A backup gun to complement the excellent M&P auto pistols and M&P15 carbines, the M&P340 is a Scandium frame super-light Magnum revolver. I’d avoided flyweight Magnums before this one. The steel small-frame guns got to be too much for me to shoot with any regularity.
Interest in Concealed Carry Permits Increases
From Tactical Wire:
Of particular significance, however, is the finding that the handgun owners who don’t already possess a concealed-carry permit, about 40 percent said they intend to apply for one within the next 12 months. This strong interest in obtaining concealed-carry weapon (CCW) permits could mean a real demand for training and CCW-related accessories and firearms in the coming year.

Concealed Carry On The Rise
As Morning Journal points out concealed carry permits have increased over the past several years while wild west shoot-outs have not.
The growth of concealed carry in Ohio reflects a widespread acceptance in most parts of the nation since 1987 when Florida opened the door to concealed carry.
Today, only Illinois and Wisconsin absolutely prohibit concealed carry.
WILL A 9MM REALLY PROTECT YOU?
Posted by Jack Sinclair in Handguns, Opinion, Warrior Tools on 4/Feb/2011 20:16
Comment by Watcher3223:
ANY handgun round won’t provide protection if:
1. You are a bad shot.
2. You subscribe to the notion of one shot kills with handgun loads.
3. You don’t have a gun.
It’s been said that the purpose of a pistol is to fight your way back to a rifle. That said, a 9x19mm is effective for its intended purpose.
While you want to get as large a caliber as you can handle, the truth is you do not want your body invaded by a bullet of ANY kind. Even a well-placed shot with .22LR can kill your target.
