North Haven, CT – For decades, the legendary Mossberg 500 pump-action shotgun has been selected by the military, law enforcement agencies and civilians worldwide for its rock-solid durability and superior reliability; simply known as a tool that you can count on. A similar tenet is expressed by Marine Corps veteran and former SWAT team member, Clint Smith, who serves as President and Director of Thunder Ranch training facility in Lakeview, Oregon. Remington 870 or Mossberg 590? Which shotgun is best for you?
Posted by Jack Sinclair in Mossberg, Opinion, Remington on 15/Oct/2010 00:42
If you surf around gun forums you’ll see that “discussions” about “the best” shotgun can get pretty emotional. It’s like guys arguing about Fords or Chevys; not always objective.
Here’s a collection of observations by shotgun users that I found helpful, not just guys ranting, but helpful information that may make your decision a bit easier.
As always, understand this is opinion and anecdotal information, bear that in mind. We’re not making any claims on accuracy of info, just passing along some discussion.

Mossberg is joining S&W and others in the AR style .22Â rimfire market with the introduction of thier Tactical .22.
Press Release
Introducing the Tactical .22 Autoloading Rimfires by Mossberg International
North Haven, CT – Mossberg International introduces the Tactical .22–an alternative firearm for those shooters and enthusiasts who want the look and feel of an AR-style .22 rimfire with an affordable price. With the rising costs of centerfire ammunition, the new Tactical .22 rimfires are a great choice for recreational shooters, as well as those searching for a cost-effective training platform.
The lightweight and fast-handling Tactical .22 parallels the look and feel of today’s AR-style rifle while being built around Mossberg International’s reliable .22 autoloader. Taking cues from their proven 702 autoloader, the Tactical .22 matches an 18†barrel to a quad rail forend allowing the operator to fit the rifle with lights, lasers or other tactical accessories. Two stock configurations will be offered in this series: a six-position adjustable and fixed stock. The six-position polymer stock adjusts the length of pull from 10-3/4†– 14.5†accommodating youth and smaller framed shooters up to adults. The fixed position stock has a standard 13†LOP. The Tactical .22 is integrated with an A2-style carry handle and an adjustable rear sight aligned with a front post sight. The Picatinny handle mount is included, allowing versatility in scopes and other optics while providing the clearance necessary to utilize the AR-style sights. Other features included with the Tactical .22 are sling mounts and a ten round magazine.

Home Defense Shotguns: Mossberg 500

“There is a lot of bullshit out there in the home defense shotgun arena. A lot of money can be made in the plastic tactical whizbang market, and it leaves the newbie wondering if the shotgun itself is really a necessity if he has all that extra junk to throw at an attacker.
The truth is, a combat shotgun needs very little to be a devastatingly effective weapon, and they can be bought on the used market very cheaply. There is no reason for any home not to have one.
I’m going to dispense with the crap and keep things simple.”
