Incoming DNC Head Wants All Gun Purchases Screened
From The Hill:
Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz said the current law, which allows private firearm sales without background checks, is “outrageous.” The Florida Democrat is sponsoring a soon-to-be-released proposal extending the screening requirements to all gun purchases, commercial or private.
This will only hurt the Democratic Party and the President if any kind of bill is introduced. Every time the Democrats propose something related to guns we all know that it is intended as a stepping stone to eventual disarmament of the American public. For those that have forgotten:
Second Amendment to the United States Constitution
“A well regulated militia, being necessary for the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.” (emphasis added)
American Expats Fight For Their Rights
The Second Amendment Foundation is suing the Attorney General on behalf of Americans living abroad who, under federal law, are not able to purchase firearms when in the country.
The Second Amendment Foundation’s challenge to a federal law that prevents American citizens who reside outside the United States from purchasing firearms while they are in this country will be allowed to move forward, under a ruling today by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia.
“This is a significant ruling in our favor,†said SAF Executive Vice President Alan Gottlieb. “Many American citizens face the same dilemma as Mr. Dearth. They are good citizens, they’ve committed no crimes, and they would certainly be allowed to exercise their Second Amendment rights, except for the fact that they live in another country.â€
When a person wants to buy a firearm they must fill out federal form 4473 which asks for a state of residence. Expats have no state residence.

Aviation security requires striking a delicate balance between the personal safety of passengers and their right to privacy. Unfortunately, TSA has developed increasingly invasive methods of searching passengers that are encroaching upon their rights. The TSA has subjected passengers to “enhanced” pat-downs, which have resulted in reports of people feeling humiliated and traumatized, and, in some cases, reports comparing their psychological impact to sexual assaults.

“A concealed weapon permit holder, mother and student at UNR (University of Nevada, Reno), Amanda wasn’t allowed to carry a firearm on her college campus because it was a “gun free zone.â€
That meant she was unarmed on a night in October, 2007 when she was attacked while walking to one of her classes.
You see, her attacker didn’t care about the “gun free†designation. He had his gun. And he held it to her temple while he raped her.
She had left her firearm at home because that was the law. A law that left her completely vulnerable when she needed a way to defend herself the most.”

Wyoming approves concealed firearm without license

“An important step was taken yesterday in Wyoming toward restoring the constitutionally protected right of Americans to keep and bear arms, as that state became the second in less than a year to enact legislation affirming the right of its citizens to carry a concealed firearm without a special government-issued license. Following adoption in the state Senate, the vote of the House in the Wyoming legislature approved the bill by a vote of 48–8 several weeks ago, and Gov. Matt Mead signed it into law on March 3.
The right to carry a concealed firearm without a special license issued by the state is often referred to as “constitutional carry.†Wyoming is now the fourth state in the Union that recognizes constitutional carry, joining Alaska, Arizona, and Vermont.
Similar bills are pending in states including Colorado, Minnesota, Montana, New Hampshire, South Carolina, and Utah. A bill has been introduced in Kentucky but hasn’t advanced while another was introduced for discussion in Idaho.â€

The Second Amendement Get Its Due
From Reason Magazine’s October issue:
The invalidation of handgun bans throughout the country, accomplished in the space of two years, was sudden and surprising even to those who have spent decades laying the groundwork. Take Alan Gottlieb, founder and president of the Second Amendment Foundation, which began backing Gura’s various gun lawsuits after Heller. Since founding the SAF in 1974, Gottlieb has been hosting academic conferences, supporting legal scholars and historians, and filing carefully targeted lawsuits in defense of gun rights. Still, he says, “six years ago if you had said [the gun rights community would] see two cases get to the Supreme Court and two victories, I would have said, ‘Not in my lifetime. Maybe in someone else’s.’ â€
This demonstrates that liberty will remain as long as there are paladins who will defend it.

Overuse of SWAT Teams
Recent incidents in Oregon and Missouri should give many people pause. In Columbia Missouri a SWAT team raided the house of a suspected marijuana dealer killing one of his dogs and injuring another. They found only a few ounces of the drug. In Oregon a man was taken into custody for what appears to be crimes the police thought he would commit:
This supposedly voluntary exchange involved two SWAT teams, officers from Medford and nearby Roseburg, sheriff’s deputies from Jackson and Douglas counties, and the Oregon State Police. Pyles hadn’t committed any crime; nor was he suspected of having committed one. The police never obtained a warrant for either search or arrest. They never consulted with a judge or a mental health professional before sending military-style tactical teams to take Pyles in.
“They woke me up with a phone call at about 5:50 in the morning,†Pyles says. “I looked out the window and saw the SWAT team pointing their guns at my house. The officer on the phone told me to turn myself in. I told them I would, on three conditions. I would not be handcuffed. I would not be taken off my property. And I would not be forced to get a mental health evaluation. He agreed. The second I stepped outside, they jumped me. Then they handcuffed me, took me off my property, and took me to get a mental health evaluation.â€
One story involves a nonviolent crime and the other there was no crime committed at all. Neither situation called for the use of SWAT teams. The problem is that cities are incentivized to create SWAT teams when they have no use for them. Once the teams are in place the cities force the teams in to situations where they are not needed.

Starbucks has brushed aside a request from a gun control advocacy group to ban the display of guns in its retail locations, saying it will abide by laws that allow patrons to openly carry unloaded weapons.
…The head of a local chapter of the Brady Campaign was disappointed by the response.
…The Brady Campaign has sent e-mails to its approximately 180,000 members nationwide suggesting that they e-mail Starbucks asking the coffee giant to create an anti-gun policy.
…”We definitely applaud Starbucks for allowing law-abiding citizens to defend themselves and we will continue to patronize them as long as they do,” said Brad Huffman, who is also a National Rifle Association-certified instructor and member of Bay Area Open Carry, which lists 610 members on its Facebook page.
Supreme Court Guns Case Preview

The battle over the meaning of the Second Amendment returns to the Supreme Court Tuesday when the justices hear a case that is a follow-up to their historic ruling in 2008 that individuals have a Constitutional right to keep and bear arms. On Sunday, Fox’s Shannon Bream spoke with a couple of key figures in the gun rights debate: lawyer Alan Gura and Dennis Henigan of the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence. Gura argued and won D.C. v. Heller two years ago and will appear before the Court Tuesday.

WASHINGTON — The Supreme Court says it will take up a challenge to Chicago’s ban on handguns, opening the way for a ruling that could set off a vigorous new campaign to roll back state and local gun controls across the nation.
Victory for gun-rights proponents in the Chicago case is considered likely, even by supporters of gun control, in the latest battle in the nation’s long and often bitter dispute over the Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms. A ruling against the city’s outright ban could lead to legal challenges to less-restrictive laws across the country that limit who can own guns, whether firearms must be registered and how they should be stored.
The case is to be argued early next year.
