Army Aviation Summit June 28-30
Preparing Army Aviation for the Future
The US Army has been making great strides in Aviation advancement. Due to the mountainous terrain and extreme climate conditions faced in the Afghan and Pakistani theaters, The US Army has increased focus and resources on Helicopters and UAVs to provide support, transportation, intelligence, deadly force and to rescue troops as they combat the insurgency.
IDGA’s Army Aviation 2010 is the premier event in the US that examines the link between emerging requirements, technology, and the long term focus of US Army Aviation Programs. Through a combination of technical examination sessions and key case studies, we will identify performance of current aviation systems platforms, potential growth areas, and the long term focus of the US Army Aviation community.

Did The Daily Show Ask Aasif Mandvi to Stop Talking About Muslim Extremism?
Posted by Jack Sinclair in News, Threat Watch on 16/May/2010 02:58
“Aasif Mandvi is a funny guy. He is also The Daily Show‘s “Senior Islamic Correspondent.” So why would the show ask him not to talk about Muslim extremist threats after the Times Square bombing attempt?
Fox411—”Your First Call for Celebrity News, If Stephen Baldwin Counts as a Celebrity”—has a scoop! And their scoop is: Islam is ruining TV! No one is allowed to say the bad things about the Moslems anymore, due to “the supercharged climate.”

Home of Swedish cartoonist attacked
Posted by Jack Sinclair in News, Opinion, Threat Watch on 16/May/2010 02:53
“The home of a Swedish artist who once drew a cartoon of the Prophet Muhammad as a dog has been hit by a suspected arson attack, police said Saturday.
Lars Vilks, who lives in Nyhamnslage in southern Sweden, was not at home during the attack late Friday night and no one was reported injured.
It was the latest in a week of attacks on the 53-year-old cartoonist, who was assaulted Tuesday by a man while he lectured at a university and saw his Web site apparently attacked by hacker on Wednesday.”
My favorite comment on this story: “If you think that tea baggers and religious conservatives are the enemy, but come up with excuses why muslims are justified in their rage over cartoons, you have no ability to think rationally.”
I’m not making any judgment on tea baggers or religious conservatives, but I find it curious how selective humans can be with their outrage.
And so, now, everyone will be afraid to express anything that might upset these people?
Surefire M620V – Infrared Light without a Filter

Press Release
M620V
Scout Light® WeaponLight – White and IR Output
Fountain Valley, CA — SureFire, LLC, manufacturer of high-end illumination tools and tactical products, has unveiled a new lightweight LED WeaponLight capable of seamlessly switching from white to infrared light-no IR filter required. The new 620V, the latest in SureFire’s Scout Light® line, features a high-output white-light and IR LED in one sealed unit, both of which are fully selectable on the fly. And for military and law enforcement personnel who rely upon both white and infrared light to conduct their business, the 620V represents a major technological advancement.
Previously, if an operator wanted high-output white and IR light from one light source, the best option was an incandescent WeaponLight paired with an infrared filter. This is because white-light LEDs produce negligible infrared radiation and cannot be paired with an infrared filter for use on covert missions involving night vision devices (NVDs). However, incandescent lamps can break and will eventually burn out, and filters can be lost or damaged in the heat of battle, which made it necessary for operators to carry extra lamps and/or filters in the field. The 620V eliminates this problem by offering both white-light/IR capability and superior durability. Durability specifically in the form of weather-sealed, solid-state LEDs, which, unlike incandescent lamps, have no filament to break or burn out, so they never need replacing.
By incorporating a selectable white and IR light LED into one head, SureFire has given operators the ability to switch from a 150 lumens of blinding white light to 120 mW of invisible (to the naked eye) infrared light in under a second. A Total Internal Reflection lens focuses the light in either mode to create a beam with plenty of reach and enough surround light to accommodate peripheral vision, making the 620V suitable for both close-quarter and longer-range applications. And to ensure the WeaponLight never accidentally switches modes in the heat of combat, a spring-loaded selector ring automatically locks in place when a mode is selected.
Along with eliminating the need to carry spare lamps and filters in the field, fewer spare batteries are also needed with this new Scout Light. This is because LEDs operate far more efficiently than incandescent lamps. The 620V generates nearly two hours of tactical-level (enough to temporarily overwhelm night-adapted eyesight) white light on a set of batteries, or eight hours of useful infrared light on that same set.
The light itself won’t bog down a weapon or add to an operator’s load, either. It’s constructed of aerospace aluminum, hard anodized with a Mil-Spec finish, that’s as strong as steel but much lighter. And its compact size-less than six inches long and under eight ounces-doesn’t compromise a weapon’s maneuverability or eat up a lot of space on an accessory rail. A quick-attach/detach throw-lever mount securely attaches the 620V to any Picatinny rail, even out-of-spec ones, in seconds. And an included tape switch gives an operator the choice of activating the light via tailcap switching or, for even more surgical control, via the pressure-sensitive tape switch.
The Scout Light 620V is available in black or tan (Desert Sand) and retails for $550. For more information visit SureFire at www.surefire.com.

Uncomfortable Truths and the Times Square Attack

Faisal Shahzad, the first suspect arrested for involvement in the failed May 1 Times Square bombing attempt, was detained just before midnight on May 3 as he was attempting to depart on a flight from Kennedy International Airport in New York. Authorities removed Shahzad, a naturalized U.S. citizen of Pakistani descent, from an Emirates Airlines flight destined for Dubai. On May 4, Shahzad appeared at the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York in Manhattan for his arraignment.
Authorities say that Shahzad is cooperating and that he insists he acted alone. However, this is contradicted by reports that the attack could have international links. On Feb. 3, Shahzad returned from a trip to Pakistan, where, according to the criminal complaint, he said he received militant training in Waziristan, a key hub of the main Pakistani Taliban rebel coalition, the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). Authorities are reportedly seeking three other individuals in the United States in connection with the May 1 Times Square bombing attempt.
Investigative efforts at this point are focusing on identifying others possibly connected to the plot and determining whether they directed Shahzad in the bombing attempt or merely enabled him. From all indications, authorities are quickly collecting information on additional suspects from their homes and telephone-call records, and this is leading to more investigations and more suspects. While the May 1 attempt was unsuccessful, it came much closer to killing civilians in New York than other recent attempts, such as the Najibullah Zazi case in September 2009 and the Newburgh plot in May 2009. Understanding how Shahzad and his possible associates almost pulled it off is key to preventing future threats. Read the rest of this entry »
Barrett REC7 Now in 5.56 NATO
Posted by Gary in Uncategorized on 11/May/2010 13:26
Press Release:
Barrett REC7 Now in 5.56 NATO and 6.8 SPC
Barrett continues to expand this product line by adding the popular 5.56 NATO chambering cartridge to the lineup. The much-anticipated addition has caught the attention of many law enforcement customers. Many improvements have been made to the REC7 line, with many new enhancements included. The most visual changes are the Daniel Defense free-float rail system and Magpul® MOE® six-position stock.
The Barrett Enhanced Piston-specific Bolt is made from 9310 steel and is nickel-Teflon® coated. Along with the new extractor, these features increase durability. Each bolt is proofed and magnetic-particle tested to guarantee reliable performance. Machined from 8620 steel, the nickel-Teflon coated anti-tilt bolt carrier features an integral piston strike face.
The patented chrome-lined, forward venting, fluted gas block increases reliability by eliminating carbon buildup in the gas cylinder. The 17-4 stainless piston is the strongest on the market, and is easily accessed for cleaning without removing the handguard. The two-position (suppressed/unsuppressed), nitride finish gas plug is corrosion-resistant and easily manipulated with gloves. The gas block acts as an extended rail, providing ample space for mounting optics and accessories.
The REC7 rifle’s forged 7075 aluminum upper and lower receivers are type 3 hardcoat anodized. The lower houses a dependable mil-spec single-stage trigger. The Magpul enhanced trigger guard allows easy access to the trigger in cold weather or with tactical gloves. The upper supports a free-floating, 16-inch hammer-forged, chrome-lined barrel with M4 feed ramps machined into both the receiver and the barrel extension. Each barrel is proofed and magnetic-particle tested for quality assurance. A mil-spec A2 flash hider protects the muzzle.
The REC7 rifles now include two 30-round magazines, either Magpul PMAG® 5.56 NATO or Barrett 6.8, three rail covers and tactical soft case. A right-hand, single-point Burnsed sling loop is angled for charging handle clearance.
Hornady Critical Defense Ammo

Conventional hollow points have always had issues with the cavity becoming clogged with fibers from clothing, rendering them ineffective in terms of expansion in soft tissue after they encounter the clothing barrier. But Hornady’s Critical Defense cartridge plugs this with their closely-guarded rubber material making for a clean penetration and predictable expansion with every shot.

US-born cleric inspired Times Square bomber Faisal Shahzad
Posted by Jack Sinclair in News on 8/May/2010 01:35
“The influence of US-born cleric Anwar al-Awlaki looms again as new evidence strengthens the notion that Times Square bomber Faisal Shahzad was inspired by a global extremist network stretching from Yemen to Pakistan.
New evidence is deepening a notion, albeit still unverified, that the failed car bombing in Times Square was not the work of one disgruntled young man, but inspired by a global extremist network stretching from Yemen to Pakistan, united by the Internet and a common radical vision of faith.”
Students Kicked Off Campus for Wearing American Flag Tees

“They said we could wear it on any other day,” Daniel Galli said, “but today is sensitive to Mexican-Americans because it’s supposed to be their holiday so we were not allowed to wear it today.”
The boys said the administrators called their T-shirts “incendiary” that would lead to fights on campus.
