Nutnfancy: “Knoxx Recoil Shotgun Stocks Suck”
Posted by Jack Sinclair in News on 14/Jan/2011 00:41
There are many positive reviews about the Knoxx Recoil Shotgun Stock out there, several have been posted here on Warrior Times.
Nutnfancy does not agree.
Nutnfancy:
“I really wanted to like the Knoxx and we actually tried it in multiple shooting sessions over the last year and half. But despite many rounds fired with an open mind….it still sucks.
The Knoxx Recoil Reduction stock, or Blackhawk Spec Ops stock as marketed, has many shortcomings in my estimation. First and foremost it ruins consistency in the art of combat shotgunning, an all-important commodity that allows you to actually hit things with the gun.
A shotgun is a high recoil weapon with “high-base” or full-power rounds like 00 Buck or full power slugs. In my experience, that requires a nice low check weld on the stock that is consistent and repeatable, especially when using a simple bead sight. That results in an effective sighting plane that’s fast and solid.
And then there’s the pain: the Knoxx stock can slam your cheek bone hard!. The flare out ridge at the tube portion was found to be a painful reminder that you did not have the stock properly adjusted (too short). And even when it is properly adjusted, cheek smacks with FULL POWER loads can be expected. This stock should also allow a easily repeatable and solid stock weld as well. Through the recoil of shooting, these “welds” should not change and the should be predictable.”
Congressional Security and the Tucson Shooting

Congressional Security and the Tucson Shooting is republished with permission of STRATFOR.
By Fred Burton and Sean Noonan
Following the Jan. 8 shooting of U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, Federal District Judge John McCarthy Roll and 17 others in Tucson, Arizona, discussion has focused on the motivations and ideology of the accused shooter, Jared Loughner. While it was important to make a quick assessment of Loughner’s profile in order to evaluate the possibility of an organized threat, all the available evidence (though not conclusive) indicates that he acted alone.
For the most part, discussion of the event has not touched on a re-evaluation of security for members of Congress. STRATFOR has previously analyzed the issues surrounding presidential security, and while there are common concerns in protecting all branches of government, Congress and the judiciary involve much larger numbers of people — 535 representatives and senators and more than 3,000 federal judges. And members of Congress put a high priority on public accessibility, which makes them more vulnerable.
A common mindset of politicians and their staffers is that better security will limit their accessibility and thus hinder their ability to do their job (and win elections). In fact, there are a number of measures that members of Congress and other public officials can institute for better security without limiting accessibility. While staying in a secure facility would be the safest, it isn’t a realistic option. What is realistic — and effective — is the prudent employment of protective intelligence as well as some measure of physical protection on the move. Read the rest of this entry »
Gunsite Scout Rifle From Ruger
From Tactical Wire:
Sturm, Ruger & Company, Inc. (NYSE: RGR) is proud to announce the Ruger® Gunsite Scout Rifle, the ideal “fighting carbine” in .308 Winchester that is a credible rendition of Col. Jeff Cooper’s Scout Rifle concept. Cooper called for a relatively lightweight, hard hitting, do-all rifle that in the hands of an accomplished shooter was able to place accurate, sustained fire out to long ranges, yet was quick-handling and light enough for all-day carry.

Myth: Gun Control Reduces Crime
Posted by Jack Sinclair in News on 12/Jan/2011 21:03
“One of the things that the gun does is it equalizes the unequal”
“These maximum security felons say they fear an armed victim much more than the police.”
“Having a gun changes the balance of power.”
“If someone gets into your house, which would you rather have? A telephone? Or a handgun? You can call the police if you want and they’ll get there, and they’ll take a picture of your dead body, but they can’t get there in time to save your life. The first line of defense is you.”

The Turkish Role in Negotiations with Iran

The Turkish Role in Negotiations with Iran is republished with permission of STRATFOR.
By George Friedman
The P-5+1 talks with Iran will resume Jan. 21-22. For those not tuned into the obscure jargon of the diplomatic world, these are the talks between the five permanent members of the U.N. Security Council (the United States, Britain, France, China and Russia), plus Germany — hence, P-5+1. These six countries will be negotiating with one country, Iran. The meetings will take place in Istanbul under the aegis of yet another country, Turkey. Turkey has said it would only host this meeting, not mediate it. It will be difficult for Turkey to stay in this role.
The Iranians have clearly learned from the North Koreans, who have turned their nuclear program into a framework for entangling five major powers (the United States, China, Japan, Russia, South Korea) into treating North Korea as their diplomatic equal. For North Korea, whose goal since the collapse of the Soviet Union and the absorption of China with international trade has come down to regime survival, being treated as a serious power has been a major diplomatic coup. The mere threat of nuclear weapons development has succeeded in doing that. When you step back and consider that North Korea’s economy is among the most destitute of Third World countries and its nuclear capability is far from proven, getting to be the one being persuaded to talk with five major powers (and frequently refusing and then being coaxed) has been quite an achievement. No charges for jogger in Town ‘N Country fatal shooting
Posted by Jack Sinclair in News on 11/Jan/2011 20:57
“TAMPA – No charges will be filed against a Town ‘N Country man who fatally shot a teen he said confronted him during a late-night jog, Hillsborough County prosecutors said.
Thomas G. Baker, 28, told deputies he was jogging when two teens in dark clothing approached him about 1:30 a.m. Nov. 24 in the Pinehurst subdivision. A conversation turned into an argument, he said, and one of the teens punched him.
Baker told investigators he thought one of the teens had a gun and that he was going to be robbed. He pulled his .45-caliber pistol and shot Mustelier, 18, multiple times, authorities said.”

The Men Of Easy Talk About Dick Winters, may he Rest in Peace

Dick Winters, WWII hero of ‘Band of Brothers,’ dies
Posted by Jack Sinclair in News on 10/Jan/2011 19:29
“Dick Winters, a highly decorated World War II hero who became a household name when his heroics were chronicled in a Stephen Ambrose book that later became the HBO miniseries “Band of Brothers,” has died. He was 92.
A very private and modest man, he died last week but requested that the news be withheld until after the funeral, a family friend told the Associated Press.
After enlisting in the Army on Aug. 25, 1941, the Pennsylvania native enrolled in Officer Candidate School, eventually being commissioned as a 2nd lieutenant in 1942. He was assigned to the 506th regiment of the 101st Airborne Division — known as Easy Company — and was deployed with his regiment to land by parachute in France on D-Day, June 6, 1944.”
