Gun Control And Red Flag Laws

From St. George News:

Two firearms-related tragedies have taken place in the past week. One is a matter of intense media focus while the other is being downplayed.

It’s a revealing example of the kind of statist blind faith that encourages true believers to trust the authorities to protect them even as it makes it as difficult and expensive as possible for the law-abiding to protect themselves. We’re supposed to believe that if enough people are willing to give up their freedom and the primary responsibility for their own personal safety, bad things will cease to happen.

Someone is trying to sell us a box of rocks.

Esquire Goes Full Orwell: Freedom Is Tyranny

From Esquire:

To be an American is to know that when you venture outside, you have a better chance than the citizen of any other country in the developed world of being shot by a complete and total stranger with easy access to incredibly powerful weaponry.

This is a world where the only true currency is fear. The National Rifle Association represents the interests of gun manufacturers, and those interests are to sell more guns. Nothing else is relevant.

“Reasonable Regulations” Fail Again

From Reason:

Early this morning, New York Times columnist Nicholas Kristof tweeted about last night’s mass shooting at a bar in Thousand Oaks, California, saying, “These kinds of incidents don’t happen in normal countries where there is some reasonable regulation of firearms, starting with universal background checks.” Yet California already requires background checks for all gun buyers, even when the transaction would be exempt from that requirement under federal law. In any case, ABC News reports that the gun used in the attack, a .45-caliber Glock 21 pistol, was “legally purchased,” which means the perpetrator did not have a disqualifying criminal or psychiatric record, as is typically true of mass shooters.
