How Dangerous Are AR-15s?

From FEE:

If we take the time to look at the raw data provided by the FBI, we find that all rifles, not just “assault-style rifles,” constitute on average 340 homicides per year from 2007 through 2017 (see Figure 1.). When we adjust these numbers to take under-reporting into account, that number rises to an average of 439 per year.

In any given year, for every person murdered with a rifle, there are 15 murdered with handguns, 1.7 with hands or fists, and 1.2 with blunt instruments. In fact, homicides with any sort of rifle represent a mere 3.2 percent of all homicides on average over the past decade.

Gun Sales Up, Violent Crime Down

From Bearing Arms:

In fact, the Bureau of Justice Statistics reports violent crime has decreased a whopping 77% since 1993 with only 18.6 victimizations per 1,000 people (age 12 or older) compared to 79.8 victimizations 23 years ago.

24.7 million criminal background checks for gun purchases have already been processed as of November 30th – that’s 1.6 million more than were processed in all of 2015. Black Friday helped to pack a bigger bang, recording 185,713 checks processed in one day – another all-time record.

Wyoming Has Highest Gun Ownership

From Breitbart.com:

All those guns, yet the state’s gun-related murder rate is below the national average. And this is why Steward is fine with Wyoming’s per capita dominance on gun ownership. He views the armed citizenry as a means of augmenting the “handful of deputies” he has at his disposal.

Study Says More Armed Civilians Equals Less Crime

From NRA-ILA:

Overall, the study notes, between 2007 and 2014, as permit numbers have increased, “murder rates have fallen from 5.6 to 4.2 (preliminary estimates) per 100,000. This represents a 25% drop in the murder rate at the same time that the percentage of the adult population with permits soared by 156%. Overall violent crime also fell by 25 percent over that period of time.”
