Illinois Mayor No Longer Supports Mayors Against Illegal Guns
“Any doubt that I might have had in my opinions about concealed carry when I first came into office changed quickly as I became an elected official and became very familiar with the types of crimes we’re dealing with,” Morrissey said. “The focus should not be against law-abiding citizens.”
Illinois Close To Concealed Carry Law
From Chicago-Sun Times:
The 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals on Tuesday gave the state of Illinois an extra 30 days to lift its ban on concealed weapons.
The court acted on Attorney General Lisa Madigan’s request to allow Gov. Pat Quinn more time to review legislation passed last week. But the court said it would not issue another extension of its mandate past the new deadline of July 9.
Court Strikes Down Illinois’s Concealed Carry Law
From Chicago-Sun Times:
In a huge win for gun-rights groups, a divided federal appeals court in Chicago Tuesday tossed the state’s ban on carrying concealed weapons and gave Illinois’ Legislature 180 days to craft a law legalizing concealed carry.
“Violence” Tax for Firearms
From Cheaper Than Dirt Blog:
Cook County Board President, Toni Preckwinkle, recently floated the proposal for a Violence Tax. This new and unwarranted tax seeks to target the sale of guns and ammunition sold in the City of Chicago and its suburbs.
Illinois State Atty Pro CCW
From Guns and Ammo:
“We will no longer use the power and authority of our office to criminalize and punish decent otherwise law-abiding citizens who chose to exercise their rights granted under them by the Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution to keep and bear arms in defense of themselves and their families,†Dozier said in a press release.
Illinois Is Beating the Gun Ban Drum
Guns.com reports that Illinois governor Quinn wants to ban AR-15s and high cap mags. He is of course using the shooting in Colorado to push his ideology and will no doubt use the recent shooting in Wisconsin as well.
As reported by the Associated Press, the proposal would specifically ban the AK-47, AR-15 and TEC-9. And in a way, it would be confiscatory. In other words, if one couldn’t prove they had purchased the firearm prior to the ban, then he/she would face punitive consequences.
Part of Chicago Gun Law Unconstitutional
From the Chicago-Sun Times:
Der-Yeghiayan, in a 30-page ruling, called that part of the Chicago Firearm Ordinance “unconstitutionally void for vagueness,†and said it violated Shawn Gowder’s right to keep and bear arms under the Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.
Illinois College Holding Utah Concealed Carry Classes
From Guns.com:
That might sound odd, but it actually makes quite a bit of sense. Utah concealed carry permits are recognized in 31 states, so a permit carrier can cross most state lines without too much concern for variable state gun laws. It’s a bit ironic considering that Illinois is the only state that doesn’t permit concealed carry, but where there’s a will there’s a way. Illinois citizens can still prepare for trips abroad into concealed carry-friendly states.
Illinois Turning Into A Police State?
From the Chicago Tribune:
The Illinois attorney general says state police must release the name of everyone in the state who is authorized to own a gun
One of the first things the National Socialists did in Germany was confiscate weapons. An unarmed people are at the mercy of government.
