Why should college campuses be “Criminal Safezones”?

Amanda Collins, 25, shows a 9-mm Glock that she is permitted to carry and use for self defense.

“A concealed weapon permit holder, mother and student at UNR (University of Nevada, Reno), Amanda wasn’t allowed to carry a firearm on her college campus because it was a “gun free zone.”

That meant she was unarmed on a night in October, 2007 when she was attacked while walking to one of her classes.

You see, her attacker didn’t care about the “gun free” designation. He had his gun. And he held it to her temple while he raped her.

She had left her firearm at home because that was the law. A law that left her completely vulnerable when she needed a way to defend herself the most.”

Radio Shack owner in Montana: Free pistol or shotgun for new customers

“Hamilton, Mont., Radio Shack Super Store owner Steve Strand … [is] making sure that new Dish Network account subscribers get the Second Amendment protections they deserve with an open-an-account, get-a-gun deal.

According to Strand, it has tripled his business since the promotion started last October. And, he said, easily hundreds of people have stopped in to see what the sign is all about. “Protect yourself with Dish Network. Sign up now, get free gun,” the sign reads.

The deal is … customers can choose between a Hi Point 380 pistol or a 20-gauge shotgun.”

Meghan Brown killed attacker with her pink .38

TIERRA VERDE — “Meghan Brown had fired her pink .38-caliber handgun only inside a shooting range. Even there, she said, she wasn’t very good.

The 2009 Miss Tierra Verde, 25 and a slender brunet, had trouble pulling back the trigger. When she did manage, she said she almost never hit the target.

That Saturday was different.

A man barged into her home, attacking her and beating her fiance … She trained it on the man, following his movements as he tussled with her fiance.

She saw an opening. She pulled the trigger. Pop. Pop. Pop. Pop.

Albert F. Hill, 42, never got up.”

“I’m glad it was me,” Brown said. “Not everybody else is that prepared, you know what I mean. Not everybody else is walking around with a loaded .38.”

Concealed Carry On The Rise

As Morning Journal points out concealed carry permits have increased over the past several years while wild west shoot-outs have not.

The growth of concealed carry in Ohio reflects a widespread acceptance in most parts of the nation since 1987 when Florida opened the door to concealed carry.

Today, only Illinois and Wisconsin absolutely prohibit concealed carry.

Armed Citizens’ Legal Defense Network

Dealing with the legal aftermath of a self-defense shooting

“The Armed Citizens’ Legal Defense Network, LLC is an organization of gun owners pooling their strength to protect one another when, after using a gun in self defense, a member comes under scrutiny of the legal system.

Just as the earliest labor unions were mere groups of workers joined together to prevent abuse of individual workers, Network members have joined, not because they expect to get in a shooting, but because they are well aware of the abuses the legal system can enact against the innocent man or women forced to use a gun to defend self or family.”

Get two free informative PDF bookletss (and they’re really free, no log-in, they don’t ask for info, just click and download).

One helps you learn more about self-defense law and what happens in the criminal justice system after a self-defense shooting. The other is a free 46-page PDF telling the story of a Tucson, AZ man, assaulted in his own driveway by three people and the two trials he went through defending against criminal charges the Pima County prosecutor brought against him not once, but twice, in the wake of the attack.

Canada Doesn’t Want You To Defend Yourself

The National Post has an interesting article about a man charged with possession of a firearm after he defended his home from a group of men with Molotov cocktails.

The local Crown attorney’s office later laid a charge of pointing a firearm, along with two counts of careless storage of a firearm. The Crown has recommended Mr. Thomson go to jail, his lawyer said.

His collection of seven guns, five pistols and two rifles was seized, along with his firearms licence. Mr. Thomson said he lives in fear that his attackers will return and has taken to arming himself with a fire extinguisher.

..early one Sunday morning last August when the 53-year-old former mobile-crane operator woke up to the sound of three masked men firebombing his Port Colborne, Ont., home.

Shotgun Home Defense Ammunition

BEST shotgun round for home defense?

(According to Firearms Tactical Institute)

Federal Classic 2 ¾-inch #1 buck load (F127)

(The Federal shotshell uses both a plastic shot cup and granulated plastic shot buffer to minimize post-ignition pellet deformation, whereas the Remington and Winchester loads do not.)

What about Birdshot?

“With birdshot you are wise to keep in mind that your gunfire has the potential to NOT PRODUCE an effective wound. Do not expect birdshot to have any decisive effect.

Number 1 buckshot has the potential to produce more effective wound trauma than either #00 or #000 buck, without the accompanying risk of over-penetration. The IWBA believes, with very good reason, that number 1 buckshot is the shotshell load of choice for quickly stopping deadly criminal violence.

Birdshot, because of its small size, does not have the mass and sectional density to penetrate deeply enough to reliably reach and damage critical blood distribution organs. Although birdshot can destroy a great volume of tissue at close range, the permanent crush cavity is usually less than 6 inches deep, and this is not deep enough to reliably include the heart or great blood vessels of the abdomen.

A gruesome, shallow wound in the torso does not guarantee a quick stop, especially if the bad guy is chemically intoxicated or psychotic. If the tissue crushed by the pellets does not include a vital cardiovascular structure there’s no reason for it to be an effective wound.”

JamesYeager on XS Big Dot sights: “These are gun-fighting sights. They’re designed for self-defense purposes.”

“Put the big golf ball right where we want the bullet”.

It doesn’t get much simpler than that.

XS Big Dot sights “really come into their own when you’re shooting at moving targets. These sights are not designed for winning games, they’re designed for self-defense purposes.”
