Gun Restrictions Begin In Brazil As Communist President Takes Power

“Brazil’s Supreme Court on Wednesday banned registered gun-owners from carrying firearms in the federal district until after the inauguration of President-elect Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, in reaction to recent episodes of political violence,” Reuters reported Wednesday. “Justice Alexandre de Moraes temporarily suspended licenses that permit hunters, marksmen and collectors to carry guns, firearms and ammunition in the region where the capital city of Brasilia is located.”
Brazilian President Wants More People To Own Guns

Brazil has some of the most restrictive gun control laws in the world, and one of the highest homicide rates on the planet to go along with the restrictions on the ability to keep and bear arms. Until Bolsonaro was elected in 2018, there was little chance that the average resident of Rio de Janeiro or Sao Paulo would ever be granted a license to own a firearm, but in 2019 the president enacted some reforms that made gun ownership more of a possibility than it had been in the past. Earlier this year, the New York Times reported that there’s been a 65% increase in legal gun owners since the decree took effect.

Now a lawmaker herself, she is backing Bolsonaro’s push to deliver a gun to every Brazilian who wants one, and dismisses public security experts’ concerns about the president’s four recently issued gun decrees. They will take effect next month — unless Congress or courts intervene.
“Brazilians want assurances for self-defense because they feel insecure about criminality,†Sastre told The Associated Press, blaming a 2003 disarmament law for heightened violence and more than 65,000 violent deaths in Brazil in 2017. “The guns used in those killings weren’t in the hands of citizens; they came illegally from traffickers and criminals.â€
Journalist Charged With Cybercrime In Brazil

The charges against Mr. Greenwald raise concerns among journalists and advocates for a free press because journalists often rely on confidential or leaked information, sometimes obtained by whistle-blowers or hackers.
Mr. Greenwald has been part of a team that won some of the most important prizes in journalism — the George Polk Award and the Pulitzer Prize for public service — for reporting on documents that described government surveillance. The documents were passed on to him by Edward J. Snowden, a former contractor with the National Security Agency of the United States who later faced espionage charges in connection with the leak.
Obama Lies To Brazilians About Gun Laws

During a conversation with a host on stage during the digital innovation event, Obama took the opportunity to speak negatively about U.S. gun laws. He said, “Our gun laws in the United States don’t make much sense. Anybody can buy any weapon, any time, without much, if any, regulation. They can buy [guns] over the internet, they can buy machine guns.â€
His statement to a foreign audience includes six lies about our gun laws and one truth. Let’s start out on a positive note and cover the one true statement first.
Brazilian President Promotes Gun Rights

“We are following a path totally opposed to authoritarianism, which always seeks to disarm the population,†said Bolsonaro on his social media account, which has nearly 12 million followers. “We are mainly attending the good citizen, who follows the laws and respects society.â€
As detailed by the Rio Times, the new decree will open Brazil to more gun imports as well as enable more individuals to legally own, use and carry firearms. Additionally, the move will boost the yearly ammo purchase limit on restricted categories of firearms from 50 cartridges to 1,000 and on unrestricted types to 5,000.
Illegals Smuggled In From Middle East

Those smuggled included Palestinians, Pakistanis and the Afghan man who Homeland Security officials said had family ties to the Taliban and was “involved in a plot to conduct an attack in the U.S. and/or Canada.†He is in custody but the Times is withholding his name at the request of law enforcement to protect ongoing investigations.
“It’s disturbing, in so many ways,†said Joe Kasper, Mr. Hunter’s chief of staff. “The interdiction of this group validates once again that the southern border is wide open to more than people looking to enter the U.S. illegally strictly for purposes of looking for work, as the administration wants us to believe. What’s worse, federal databases weren’t even synched and Border Patrol had no idea who they were arresting and the group was not considered a problem because none of them were considered a priority under the president’s enforcement protocol. That’s a major problem on its own, and it calls for DHS to figure out the problem — and fast.â€
Taurus’s Concealed Carry Campaign
Taurus is promoting concealed carry with it’s Carry On Movement. I like the idea but find it ironic that a company based in Brazil, where it is illegal to own most guns, is actively promoting concealed carry.
