Newsweek Attacks Texas Independence

From Newsweek:

Speaking to Newsweek in December, Joshua Blank, a political scientist at the University of Texas at Austin, said he didn’t believe Texas could leave the U.S. peacefully.

He said: “I think history has made clear that there is no plausible scenario in which Texas could peacefully extract itself from the United States, even were that the will of its populous—which there is no indication of to my knowledge.”

Inconsistent Gun Rulings By Democrat Judges

From American Greatness:

Nothing better illustrates the left’s bizarre, sinister, and downright lawless attitude than two back-to-back gun control decisions from two leftist courts in two infamously blue states, Illinois and Hawaii. Within a single month, “progressive” judges decided that law-abiding Americans do not have the right to freely bear arms, but non-citizens living here illegally do. Yes, you read that correctly.

Border Patrol Sees Significant Drop In Crossings

From Zero Hedge:

A sharp dropoff in the number of illegal border crossers coming into the United States from Mexico is “nothing short of miraculous,” National Border Patrol Council President Brandon Judd told C-SPAN on Monday.

As far as the Trump administration’s efforts on immigration, this is something they campaigned heavily on.

We have never seen such a drop that we currently have.

There’s a vibe, there’s an energy in the Border Patrol that’s never been there before in 20 years that I’ve been in the patrol.  –Brandon Judd

Judd went on to say that Trump’s two Executive Orders instructing border agents to fully carry out laws is in sharp contrast to the Obama administration, which kept agents from performing their sworn duties.

The Washington Examiner reports a 53% decrease in apprehensions at the Southwest border compared to last year - a 6 year low.

Illegals Smuggled In From Middle East

From The Washington Times:

Those smuggled included Palestinians, Pakistanis and the Afghan man who Homeland Security officials said had family ties to the Taliban and was “involved in a plot to conduct an attack in the U.S. and/or Canada.” He is in custody but the Times is withholding his name at the request of law enforcement to protect ongoing investigations.

“It’s disturbing, in so many ways,” said Joe Kasper, Mr. Hunter’s chief of staff. “The interdiction of this group validates once again that the southern border is wide open to more than people looking to enter the U.S. illegally strictly for purposes of looking for work, as the administration wants us to believe. What’s worse, federal databases weren’t even synched and Border Patrol had no idea who they were arresting and the group was not considered a problem because none of them were considered a priority under the president’s enforcement protocol. That’s a major problem on its own, and it calls for DHS to figure out the problem — and fast.”

Border Patrol Says Canadian Border Being Neglected

From CBS New York:

“We see alien smuggling. We see narcotic smuggling. We see currency smuggling,” Border Patrol Operations Officer Brad Brandt said.

Agents said much of that activity is heading directly to New York City and our suburbs where the product is sold on our streets.

“There is a significant amount of violence that is associated with these drugs,” Drug Enforcement Administration Agent Michael Laravia said.

Iraqi Caught Crossing Texas-Mexico Border

From Breibart:

Breitbart Texas exclusively obtained leaked information on the Iraqi man who was apprehended while illegally crossing the U.S.-Mexico border into Texas on February 12, 2015. The Border Patrol agent responsible for interviewing the subject initially expressed concerns that the Iraqi was sent by Russia, largely due to the Iraqi man’s history as a military trainer, his speaking several languages, including Russian, and his having lived in Crimea, according to one of the leaked documents. Breitbart Texas was provided with two documents by a federal agent who works under the umbrella of Customs and Border Protection (CBP). The agent insisted on remaining anonymous.

4 Turks Caught At Southern Border

From The Washington Times:

Their capture by the Border Patrol in Texas set off a fierce debate over the men’s intentions, with some members of Congress saying they were terrorist fighters. Homeland Security officials, including Secretary Jeh Johnson, countered that they were part of the Kurdish resistance which, like the U.S., is fighting the Islamic State’s advance in Iraq.

But whether the men are linked to anti-U.S. jihadists or not, they admitted to being part of a U.S.-designated terrorist group, and their ability to get into the U.S. through the southern border — they paid $8,000 each to be smuggled into Texas — details the existence of a network capable of bringing terrorists across the border.

Polarization and Sustained Violence in Mexico’s Cartel War

From: Stratfor

As we noted in last year’s annual cartel report, Mexico in 2010 bore witness to some 15,273 deaths in connection with the drug trade. The death toll for 2010 surpassed that of any previous year, and in doing so became the deadliest year ever in the country’s fight against the cartels. But in the bloody chronology that is Mexico’s cartel war, 2010’s time at the top may have been short-lived. Despite the Mexican government’s efforts to curb cartel-related violence, the death toll for 2011 may have exceeded what had been an unprecedented number.

According to the Mexican government, cartel-related homicides claimed around 12,900 lives from January to September — about 1,400 deaths per month. While this figure is lower than that of 2010, it does not account for the final quarter of 2011. The Mexican government has not yet released official statistics for the entire year, but if the monthly average held until year’s end, the overall death toll for 2011 would reach 17,000. Though most estimates put the total below that, the actual number of homicides in Mexico is likely higher than what is officially reported. At the very least, although we do not have a final, official number — and despite media reports to the contrary — we can conclude that violence in Mexico did not decline substantially in 2011.

Arizona Officials, Fed Up With U.S. Efforts, Seek Donations to Build Border Fence

By MARC LACEY
PHOENIX — “Americans upset about illegal immigration have a new outlet for their rage: a fund set up by the State of Arizona that will use private donations to build a border wall.

Critics call the state’s effort to build its own border barriers a foolhardy, feel-good campaign that will have little practical effect on illegal border crossings. But organizers in the State Legislature, which created the fund, say it will allow everyday people fed up with the inability of Congress to address the problem of illegal immigration to contribute personally to a solution.”
