KC-135 Crash in Kyrgyzstan

A KC-135 has crashed just a few days after a 747 crashed in Bagram.

From Military Times:

This is the third crash of a U.S.-based plane in the region in the last week, following two crashes in Afghanistan. An MC-12 Liberty surveillance plane crashed April 27 near Kandahar Airfield, killing crewmembers Capt. Brandon Cyr, Capt. Reid Nishizuka, Staff Sgt. Richard Dickson and Staff Sgt. Daniel Fannin. On April 29, a Boeing 747 belonging to National Air Cargo crashed on takeoff out of Bagram Airfield, killing seven crewmembers.

Helicopter crash in Afghanistan kills nine Western troops

Reporting from Kabul, Afghanistan —

“Nine Western service members died Tuesday in a helicopter crash in southern Afghanistan, making this the deadliest year for NATO in the nine-year war.

Military officials did not immediately disclose the nationalities of the dead or say precisely where the crash happened. Two other Western troops, an Afghan soldier and an American civilian were injured, NATO’s International Security Assistance Force said in a statement.

Combat deaths in June and July had spiked to the highest levels of the conflict. With Tuesday’s crash, according to, 529 members of the international force have been killed this year. The previous high was 2009, when 521 Western troops were killed, according to the website’s tally.,0,6586947.story
