The Steady Increase In Concealed Carry

Gun Makers Flee Hostile States
Posted by Brian in Law, News, Threat Watch on 21/Feb/2014 12:12
From AL.com:
Remington has publicly opposed New York’s passage of the Secure Ammunition and Firearms Enforcement (SAFE) Act, which restricts gun ownership and sales. A Military Times report Friday said Remington’s decision to move to Alabama will not affect its largest facility in Illion, N.Y., but one union leader is already speaking out.
“Common Sense” Regulations in Massachusetts
http://youtu.be/C7PJstjs17c
Massachusetts can pass all these (reasonable) impediments to purchasing a gun but when Texas requires a photo ID to vote that means the sky is falling.
California Carry Law Unconstitutional
From The Washington Post:
California law has a process for applying for a permit to carry a handgun for protection in public, with requirements for safety training, a background check, and so on. These requirements were not challenged. The statute also requires that the applicant have “good cause,†which was interpreted by San Diego County to mean that the applicant is faced with current specific threats. (Not all California counties have this narrow interpretation.) The Ninth Circuit, in a 2-1 opinion written by Judge O’Scannlain, ruled that Peruta was entitled to Summary Judgement, because the “good cause†provision violates the Second Amendment.
This could lead to other state laws that are similar being struck down.
Beretta Explains Expansion in Tennessee
Ugo Beretta, the owner of Italian arms manufacturer Beretta had this to say in the Washington Times:
These regulations also demean our law-abiding customers, who must now be fingerprinted like criminals before they can be allowed to purchase one of our products.
We have seen these types of legislative proposals in Maryland before, and they never seem to reduce crime. Maybe this is because the proponents of such legislation blame the product instead of human misconduct.’
I must say it is surprising to hear this opinion coming from a European, especially considering the fact that he is defending a right that they do not have in Italy.
Massachusettes: Arrested and Cleared, Lose Your Gun Rights
From National Review Online:
More than a year after the school shootings in Newtown, Conn., a panel of academic experts today released a long-awaited report recommending that Massachusetts tighten its gun laws, which are already considered among the toughest in the country.
It also said Massachusetts should require anyone wanting to purchase a hunting rifle or a shotgun to pass those standards of suitability. That could allow local police chiefs to deny gun purchases to people who have been arrested, but not convicted, of a crime.
New Yorkers Refuse to Turn In Neighbors
From CBS Albany:
Just one New York State resident has been arrested thanks to a gun tip hotline set up by state police, according to the state Department of Criminal Justice Services.
In February of 2012, 11 months before the state passed their stringent gun law known as the NY SAFE Act, a hotline was set up for people to call who thought they knew someone that possessed an illegal gun. If a person was arrested and convicted the tipster would receive a $500 reward.
This information along with the lack of guns registered in Connecticut proves the point that citizens will simply ignore the law when they feel it is unjust.
The More Laws They Pass The More People Will Innovate Around Them
From Times Union on the New York SAFE Act:
“It’s basically an AR-15 without the features,” said James Tresmond, a western New York lawyer representing H&H Firearms, a Lackawanna gun shop that’s seeking to sell such a rifle.”
Thanks to modifications by a Texas-based machine shop, the stripped-down rifle has an adapter that connects the spot where the grip would go to the stock, or portion of the rifle that the shooter braces against her shoulder.

On NRA News:
Americans Want Less-Strict Gun Laws
From The National Journal:
…the most dramatic rise in dissatisfaction comes from the contingency of Americans who feel gun laws are too strict, rather than from those who think they aren’t strict enough. This percentage jumped to 16 percent this year, a rate that more than triples the 5 percent recorded by Gallup last year. Meanwhile, the percentage of Americans favoring stricter gun laws fell seven points in 2014, from 38 to 31 percent.
New Book On The History Of Blacks And Firearms
The author writes about his book, Negroes and the Gun, in The Washington Post:
Speaking to both fugitives and freemen in 1854, Frederick Douglass advocated, “A good revolver, a steady hand and a determination to shoot down any man attempting to kidnap…. Every slave hunter who meets a bloody death in his infernal business is an argument in favor of the manhood of our race.†Douglass, like others in the early freedom movement, would come to view slavery as basically a state of war.
NRA Membership in New York Almost Doubles
From The Buffalo News:
Tom King, president of the New York State Rifle & Pistol Association, said the NRA headquarters in Washington recently informed him his state affiliate has now surpassed Texas and California to become the largest state NRA chapter in the nation.
Federal Judge Upholds Conn. Gun Law
From The Courant:
“The court concludes that the legislation is constitutional,” senior U.S. District Judge Alfred V. Covello, wrote in a decision published late Thursday. “While the act burdens the plaintiffs’ Second Amendment rights, it is substantially related to the important governmental interest of public safety and crime control.”
Missouri Latest State To Attempt To Nullify Gun Laws
From Columbia Daily Tribune:
Missouri’s latest proposal, introduced last week, would attempt to nullify certain federal gun control regulations from being enforced in the state and subject law enforcement officers to criminal and civil penalties for carrying out such policies.
The state’s GOP-led General Assembly came one vote shy of overriding Democratic Gov. Jay Nixon’s veto of such a measure last year. This year’s bill adds a new twist, delaying the effective date for several years to allow time for other states to join the cause.
Califonia Microstamping Law Causes Ruger and Smith & Wesson To Stop Selling Guns In State
From FoxNews:
“Smith & Wesson does not and will not include microstamping in its firearms,†the Springfield, Mass.,-based manufacturer said in a statement. “A number of studies have indicated that microstamping is unreliable, serves no safety purpose, is cost prohibitive and, most importantly, is not proven to aid in preventing or solving crimes.â€
