Hawaii’s Butterfly Knife Ban Is Unconstitutional
From Reason:
[J]ust as with firearms in Heller, bladed weapons facially constitute “arms” within the meaning of the Second Amendment. Like firearms, bladed weapons fit the general definition of “arms” as “[w]eapons of offence” that may be “use[d] in wrath to cast at or strike another.” Moreover, contemporaneous sources confirm that, at the time of the adoption of the Second Amendment, the term “arms” was understood as generally extending to bladed weapons.
ALL Tools Of Self Defense Are Covered By The Second Amendment
From Ohio Capital Journal:
Ohioans can now secretly carry knives under a new law that took effect Monday.
Prior law prohibited anyone in the state from carrying a concealed “deadly weapon†other than a handgun. House Bill 140 codifies into the law that knives, razors, or cutting instruments not used as a weapon do not count as a “deadly weapon.â€
Similarly, the new law allows for the manufacturing, sale and possession of brass knuckles, cestuses, billy clubs, blackjacks, sandbags, switchblade knives, springblade knives, gravity knives, and similar weapons.
Hawaii Bans Knives In Second Amendment Case
From Ammoland:
The opinion holds that even if butterfly or “balisong†knives are protected by the Second Amendment of the Constitution, a state law banning any possession, manufacture or transport of such knives is constitutionally valid.
UK Now Wants To Ban Knives
From Reason:
Despite a host of legal restrictions on firearms and knives, not to mention a society that increasingly resembles a panopticon in the thoroughness of the surveillance to which it’s subjected, the U.K.’s crime rates remain stubbornly resistant to reduction. Last year, London’s murder rate briefly overtook that of New York City—a feat likely to be repeated as crime continues its decline in the U.S.—and the latest U.K. figures show an increase in violent crimes committed with both guns and knives.
So, do right-thinking Britons propose loosening the country’s tight rules regarding self-defense so that people can more easily deal with two-legged predators? Hell, no. Instead, they want to ban pointy knives. Yes, really—churchmen, physicians, judges, and lawmakers want to tightly restrict or completely outlaw the possession of knives with sharp ends.
Stupid Laws
From Reason.com:
When Joseph Cracco bought his folding knife about a decade ago, he had no reason to think he was breaking the law. Nor did Damien Guedes when he bought a bump stock for his AR-15 rifle in 2014.
Both products were subsequently transformed into contraband—not by legislators but by law enforcement officials. The way that happened shows how easily policies aimed at promoting public safety can make all of us less secure by undermining the rule of law.
Knife Case Going To Supreme Court
From Bearing Arms:
Knife Rights is going forward with an appeal to the Supreme Court of the United States of the Second Circuit’s decision in favor of New York City and District Attorney Cyrus Vance, Jr. in our long-running civil rights lawsuit over their persecution of pocket knife owners.
Chicago Mass Murder Stabbing Ignored
From Conservative Tribune:
Five adults and one child were discovered dead inside a Gage Park home on Thursday, all stabbed to death with a knife, according to the Chicago Tribune.
Sadly, this gruesome mass stabbing murder received virtually no national media coverage for one simple reason –the murders were perpetrated with a knife, not a gun.
Knives Now The Choice of Jihadists
Posted by Brian in News, Threat Watch on 12/Nov/2015 07:00
From Fox News:
The knife has replaced suicide bombings, car attacks and random shootings as the new tool of choice for waging jihad on Israel, with leaders blatantly calling for Palestinians young and old to take up the kitchen implement and kill.
“Restrain the victim while others attack him with axes and butcher knives,” influential Sheikh Muhammad Salakh recently preached as he brandished a knife in a sermon that was widely viewed within the territories. “Do not fear what will be said about you. Oh men of the West Bank, next time, attack in a group of three, four, or five. Attack them in groups. Cut them into body parts.â€
“Arms” Means More Than Just Guns
There is now an effort to loosen knife laws.
From The Atlantic:
The similarity to the gun lobby isn’t accidental. The most influential organization dedicated to knife rights is patterned after the National Rifle Association, although it doesn’t nearly have that group’s legislative firepower. But the movement is also a recognition that, as gun advocates score victory after victory at the state level (the Georgia Legislature this week passed a bill that would allow guns to be carried in bars, schools, churches, and airports), the political environment has never been better for loosening similar restrictions on knives.

Knives Covered Under Second Amendment
From The Volokh Conspiracy:
- Under the Supreme Court’s standard in District of Columbia v. Heller, knives are Second Amendment “arms†because they are “typically possessed by law-abiding citizens for lawful purposes,†including self-defense.
- There is no knife that is more dangerous than a modern handgun; to the contrary, knives are much less dangerous. Therefore, restrictions on carrying handguns set the upper limit for restrictions on carrying knives.
- Prohibitions on carrying knives in general, or of particular knives, are unconstitutional. For example, bans of knives that open in a convenient way (e.g., switchblades, gravity knives, and butterfly knives) are unconstitutional. Likewise unconstitutional are bans on folding knives that, after being opened, have a safety lock to prevent inadvertent closure.
