NY SAFE Act Side Effect

Rod and gun clubs in New York state have seen a spike in memberships mostly involving women.

From Syracuse.com:

Bill Parfitt, president of the Camillus Sportsmen’s Club, said his club has maxed out at 800 members, and has a waiting list of more than 100.

“We could have 2,000 members if we wanted,” he said. “We took 10 new applications just last weekend.”

Son Makes Threats, Dad Has Pistol License Revoked

From HauppaugePatch:

According to Mayer, his son spoke with a few of his classmates about a pushing incident on the schoolyard, and although Mayer’s son was not involved in the scuffle, he and two of the other boys talked about bringing a water, paintball and BB gun with them to the house of the classmates that did the pushing. While Mayer’s lawyer said that none of the boys actually have any of the toy guns mentioned, word about the perceived threats got around to the principal, who not only suspended Mayer’s son for two days, but also filed a police report.

Veteran Victim Of “Common Sense” Gun Laws

The laws that are in place in states like New York do nothing to prevent crime and in fact create new criminals out of previous law-abiding citizens. A prime example is this case out of New York where a veteran is facing 7 years in prison for the possession of 5 magazines, meanwhile David Gregory of NBC News is on video breaking the Washington, D.C. law and he is not charged.

Dear Governor Cuomo, Senators Klein, Marchione, Skelos, Stewart-Cousins, and Chairman Cox;

By this correspondence, the Saratoga County Deputy Sheriffs’ Pol ice Benevolent Association (SCDSPBA) would like to announce our strong opposition to the passage of the SAFE Act and the manner in which is was negotiated and subsequently voted upon. The SCDSPBA represents the sworn men and women police officers of the Saratoga County Sheriff’ s Office.

Our objections to the legislation are numerous and begin with the process under which the bill was voted on in the Senate. It is deeply disturbing to our membership, as public servants and citizens of the state of New York. the manner in which this legislation was brought to the Senate for vote. It is our understanding that many senators had approximately 20 minutes to read the legislation before being forced to vote on it and note that the bill was brought before the Senate and voted on so quickly that its authors failed to make provisions for the exemption of police officers or the National Guard with respect to the new magazine-capacity requirements.
