New Sanctions For North Korea

A resolution passed by the 15-member body added three new individuals and two entities to the UN sanctions blacklist.
It also tightened restrictions on the North’s financial dealings, including “bulk cash” transfers, linked to its weapons programmes.
U.S.-Iranian Dialogue in Obama’s Second Term
“U.S.-Iranian Dialogue in Obama’s Second Term is republished with permission of Stratfor.”

Vice President of Global Affairs
As U.S. President Barack Obama’s second-term foreign policy team begins to take shape, Iran remains unfinished business for the U.S. administration. The diplomatic malaise surrounding this issue over the past decade has taken its toll on Washington and Tehran. Even as the United States and Iran are putting out feelers for another round of negotiations, expectations for any breakthrough understandably remain low. Still, there has been enough movement over the past week to warrant a closer look at this long-standing diplomatic impasse.
At the Munich Security Conference held Feb. 1-3, U.S. Vice President Joe Biden said the United States would be willing to hold direct talks with Iran under the right conditions. Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi responded positively to the offer but warned that Iran would not commit unless Washington shows a “fair and real” intention to resolve the issues dividing the two sides. Israeli President Pressuring U.S. to Strike Iran
Posted by Brian in News, Threat Watch on 7/Feb/2013 08:04
From Business Insider:
Netanyahu said that Israel was simply not strong enough to force a halt to Iran’s nuclear enrichment program. In order to halt the program, Bibi said, the U.S. would have to strike, and they must do so this year.
War and Bluff: Iran, Israel and the United States

“War and Bluff: Iran, Israel and the United States is republished with permission of Stratfor.”
By George Friedman
For the past several months, the Israelis have been threatening to attack Iranian nuclear sites as the United States has pursued a complex policy of avoiding complete opposition to such strikes while making clear it doesn’t feel such strikes are necessary. At the same time, the United States has carried out maneuvers meant to demonstrate its ability to prevent the Iranian counter to an attack — namely blocking the Strait of Hormuz. While these maneuvers were under way, U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said no “redline” exists that once crossed by Iran would compel an attack on Iran’s nuclear facilities. The Israeli government has long contended that Tehran eventually will reach the point where it will be too costly for outsiders to stop the Iranian nuclear program.
The Israeli and American positions are intimately connected, but the precise nature of the connection is less clear. Israel publicly casts itself as eager to strike Iran but restrained by the United States, though unable to guarantee it will respect American wishes if Israel sees an existential threat emanating from Iran. The United States publicly decries Iran as a threat to Israel and to other countries in the region, particularly Saudi Arabia, but expresses reservations about military action out of fears that Iran would respond to a strike by destabilizing the region and because it does not believe the Iranian nuclear program is as advanced as the Israelis say it is. US navy to battle swarms of Iranian ‘stealth’ WIG-ships with Laser energy cannons
Posted by Jack Sinclair in News on 5/Oct/2010 01:41
“The US military-industrial complex has unveiled its answer to the much-vaunted “swarm” tactics of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard naval forces, which might see squadrons of “stealth” flying boats and attack craft overwhelming the defences of US warships in the Persian Gulf.
The US Navy will deal with this, apparently, using rapid-firing laser raygun cannons to sweep their swarming enemies from the seas and skies around them.”

Today, Iran began mass-producing two kinds of high-speed missile-launching assault boats
Posted by Jack Sinclair in News, Opinion on 23/Aug/2010 18:44
“WASHINGTON — The United States voiced concern Monday over Iran’s unveiling of new assault boats and an aerial drone, but said Iran’s arms buildup will backfire as its neighbors gang up against it.
Iran began mass-producing two high-speed variants of missile-launching assault boats on Monday, a day after Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad revealed a home-built bomber drone.”
Missles, Drones and Boats, oh my! (Not to mention Nuclear Power Plants) Those industrious Iranians have really been busy lately, building new devices of death and destruction. Not to worry, though: they follow a Religion of Peace! [taqiyya].

Sanctions helping Tehran, says top dissident
Posted by Jack Sinclair in News on 12/Aug/2010 16:29
LONDON: PUNITIVE international sanctions imposed on Iran have strengthened the government of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and helped its post-election crackdown on the opposition movement, a leading reformist politician and former presidential candidate says.
”These sanctions have given an excuse to the Iranian government to suppress the opposition by blaming them for the unstable situation of the country,” Mr Karroubi said in emailed responses to questions.
“US more likely to attack Iran”, Former CIA head Hayden
Posted by Jack Sinclair in News on 25/Jul/2010 20:26
“A US military strike on Iran has become more likely and could be justifiable in the future, former CIA chief Michael Hayden said Sunday on CNN’s “State of the Union.”
“My personal view is that Iran left to its own devices will get itself to that step right below a nuclear weapon,” said Hayden, “and frankly that will be as destabilizing as their actually having a weapon.â€
The former CIA director stated that an attack on Iran had not originally been a serious option, but in light of Iran’s intensified pursuit of nuclear materials, the military option “may not be the worst of all possible outcomes.â€

Dan Plesch: “They are gearing up totally for the destruction of Iran,†Fidel Castro warns of immenent war
Posted by Jack Sinclair in News on 11/Jul/2010 16:25
“They are gearing up totally for the destruction of Iran,†according to Dan Plesch, director of the Centre for International Studies and Diplomacy at the University of London.
“US bombers and long range missiles are ready today to destroy 10,000 targets in Iran in a few hours,†he said. “The firepower of US forces has quadrupled since 2003,†accelerating under Obama.
The Arab press reports that an American fleet (with an Israeli vessel) passed through the Suez Canal on the way to the Persian Gulf, where its task is “to implement the sanctions against Iran and supervise the ships going to and from Iran.†British and Israeli media report that Saudi Arabia is providing a corridor for Israeli bombing of Iran (denied by Saudi Arabia).
The Obama administration has been rapidly expanding its offensive capacity in the African island of Diego Garcia, claimed by Britain, which had expelled the population so that the US could build the massive base it uses for attacking the Middle East and Central Asia.
The Navy reports sending a submarine tender to the island to service nuclear-powered guided-missile submarines with Tomahawk missiles, which can carry nuclear warheads. Each submarine is reported to have the striking power of a typical carrier battle group.
According to a US Navy cargo manifest obtained by the Sunday Herald (Glasgow), the substantial military equipment Obama has dispatched includes 387 “bunker busters†used for blasting hardened underground structures. Planning for these “massive ordnance penetrators,†the most powerful bombs in the arsenal short of nuclear weapons, was initiated in the Bush administration, but languished. On taking office, Obama immediately accelerated the plans, and they are to be deployed several years ahead of schedule, aiming specifically at Iran.
Fidel Castro is warning of an imminent war in the Persian Gulf. Released yesterday, this document reveals that Iran, Cuba, Chavez and their Axis are truly scared that the political war will soon be over and Iran will soon face punishment for their defiance.”

Ahmadinejad: postponing nuclear talks to “punish the West
Posted by Jack Sinclair in News, Threat Watch on 28/Jun/2010 21:59
“Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad says Iran is willing to resume nuclear talks, but not until August, so as to “punish” the West. His comments were included in a flurry of anti-Western rhetoric to mark the anniversary of a 1981 explosion that killed key figures and dozens of supporters of Iran’s revolution.
Mr. Ahmadinejad says Iran is postponing nuclear talks because the West issued a Security Council resolution against it, supposedly to give them the upper hand in negotiations. He says Iran considers it immoral, and for this reason Tehran is delaying negotiations until late August, to “punish the West so they learn how to speak properly with other nations.”
