Four Hours of Ebola Training For Military

American military operations to fight Ebola in Africa are unfolding quickly—forcing the military to come up with some procedures and protocols on the fly.
Soldiers preparing for deployment to West Africa are given just four hours of Ebola-related training before leaving to combat the epidemic. And the first 500 soldiers to arrive have been holing up in Liberian hotels and government facilities while the military builds longer-term infrastructure on the ground.
Violence Breaks Out In Germany Between Kurds and ISIS Supporters

A few hundred Kurdish protesters then gathered at a mosque near the train station before they were attacked by a group of 40 armed supporters of IS. Four people were taken to hospital with stab wounds following the incident.
Police used water cannons, batons and pepper spray to bring the unrest under control while both sides threw stones and bottles in an attempt to break police lines and attack the other.
The clashes in Celle occurred a day earlier, with 100 Kurds and 100 Muslims brawling until police calmed the situation.

Corps of Engineers Gun Ban Overturned in Idaho

An Idaho woman who is barred from carrying a functional firearm for self-defense when she visits federal recreational facilities prevailed today with the ruling of an Idaho federal district court that the federal government ban on firearms violates the Second Amendment. Elizabeth E. Morris of Nez Perce County is licensed to carry a concealed weapon, regularly carries a concealed weapon, and often seeks to recreate on lands managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Because Corps of Engineers regulations ban functional firearms, even while camped in tents, Ms. Morris is subject to criminal prosecution if she attempts to exercise her Second Amendment rights. Alan C. Baker, a firearms instructor and a resident of Idaho’s Latah County, is a co-plaintiff in the suit, which was filed in August 2013 in Idaho federal district court. The Corps of Engineers did not respond to requests from attorneys for Ms. Morris and Mr. Baker, Mountain States Legal Foundation (MSLF), seeking an exemption from its firearm ban, a ban that has not changed since the landmarkHeller ruling.

 Dayton, OH, October 2014–MKS Supply, LLC announces that production of the original Inland brand M1 Carbine is again underway and the iconic .30 caliber, World War II-era M1 Carbine will be marketed exclusively by MKS Supply, LLC.
These newly manufactured M1 Carbines are 100 percent American-made with 100 percent American parts. These are faithful copies of the original Inland Manufacturing carbines, right down to part construction and stampings. They even include the arsenal-stamped stock markings known as cartouches!
In fact, these carbines are so precisely copied from the original specifications that the company marks the underside of the barrel and the inside of the stock of these current models to prevent potential fraudsters from passing these new carbines as mint WWII originals, or using these new-production parts to “upgrade” original models (these markings are not visible unless the action is removed from the stock).
Three Inland M1 Carbine models are just now available:

- All carbines include an original-looking cloth sling and oiler.
- The 1945 and Paratrooper models come with one 15-round magazine.
- The original 1944 Model did not have a bayonet lug, so MKS chose the new Inland 1944 model to come with a 10-round magazine in order to comply with the law in states that limit magazine capacity to ten rounds and prohibit the sale of firearms with bayonet lugs (to prevent millions of “drive-by bayonetings” we assume).
One magazine is included with each carbine. Extra 15- and 30-round magazines are not available with this offering, but all models will accept original and correct replica 15-and 30-round magazines. All models feature the same original-type adjustable 1944-era “peep” battle sights.
A total of 150,000 Paratrooper models were produced in WWII by all manufacturers. The Inland M1A1 Paratrooper is modeled after the late-1944 production model, which had a low wood walnut forend, Type II barrel band, folding wire stock, and no bayonet lug.
The M1 Carbine is a great little firearm. It has cool, classic looks, is fun to shoot and packs a low-recoil even as the 110-grain .30 caliber bullet is pushed at nearly 2,000 FPS.
Quick history:
The long-lived M1 Carbine was used into the early 1960s by U.S Special Forces advisers in Vietnam and by indigenous troops throughout the war due to its compact size and light weight (5lbs, 3oz). It is still used around the world by various military and police units.

Deprive ISIS Of Its Finances

The Islamic State has emerged as the world’s richest terrorist group, with estimated assets of $1 billion to $2 billion. Its sophisticated and strategically driven financial scheme is a key reason that U.S. officials say this fight could last years.
An examination of newly declassified financial documents the group created dating to 2005 reveals an organized criminal operation that is funded through rackets like protection, extortion and the co-opting of the region’s oil industry. This makes the group a self-sustaining operation, largely free of reliance on the largesse of wealthy foreign patrons. While airstrikes may disrupt the flow of oil and profits, they will not lead to the group’s financial ruin anytime soon. Based on our research, we estimate the Islamic State will bring in $100 million to $200 million this year. And that’s being conservative.

The ISIS Threat To The U.S.

Terrorists can operate in many environments. Al Qaeda cells have existed in hostile states with efficient law enforcement capabilities, like the United States or Germany. Terrorist organizations have a much easier time operating in states with low capability, even when those states are hostile to them. Examples would be Yemen or Nigeria. Terrorists have an easier time operating in ungoverned space, where little or no state apparatus exists, such as Somalia. But an even better place for terrorists to locate their home base is in a state that is sympathetic to their purposes. And the best place of all would be a state the terrorists actually controlled. In that environment they would not only be free of state interference, they would actually be able to employ the attributes of sovereignty to their purposes—the police, the security services, the banking system, the diplomatic establishment. Imagine the difficulty of dealing with terrorists with diplomatic immunity.
