NY City wants to prohibit litterbugs, bad drivers from having gun permits
New York City residents who want to own a gun may soon be denied permits if they are litterbugs, if they are bad drivers, or if they have fallen behind on a few bills.
Under proposed revisions to the police department’s handgun, rifle and shotgun permit procedures, the NYPD can reject gun license applicants for a number of reasons, including:
If they have been arrested or convicted of almost any “violation,” in any state; having a “poor driving history”; having been fired for “circumstances that demonstrate lack of good judgment”; having “failed to pay legally required debts”; being deemed to lack “good moral character”; or if any other information demonstrates “other good cause for the denial of the permit.”
Critics say many of the restrictions are vague, have nothing to do with one’s fitness to own a gun and are unconstitutional.
Supporters say the new restrictions will make gun purchasing more efficient and don’t give the NYPD any more power than it already has. Read the rest of this entry »
Mauritania sentences 3 al-Qaida suspects to death

“NOUAKCHOTT — A court in Mauritania has condemned three alleged al-Qaida members to death, including the former leader of the African nation’s local terrorist network.
Chief judge Khayi Ould Mohamed issued the sentences late Wednesday in the capital, Nouakchott.
The former al-Qaida leader, El Khadim Ould Semene, was accused of helping organize an attack on the Israeli embassy here two years ago.”

In this story from World Net Daily, author Bob Unruh reveals how the Bureau of Alchol, Tobacco, and Firearms is blocking a plan for South Korea to return thousands of surplus M-1 Garand rifles and M-1 Carbines to the US for resale to the public. The ATF cites a “threat to public safety” as the reason to block the return of these classic American-made weapons.

“A 16-hour-old newborn was snatched from her parents by authorities in Concord, N.H., after social services workers alleged the father is a member of Oath Keepers.
The organization collects affirmations from soldiers and peace officers that they would refuse orders that violate the U.S. Constitution, in light of what they perceive as the advance of socialism in the U.S.
The father, Johnathon Irish, told WND that the affidavit signed by Child Protective Service worker Dana Bicford seeking government custody of newborn Cheyenne said the agency “became aware and confirmed that Mr. Irish associated with a militia known as the ‘Oath Keepers.'”
Irish, in an interview with WND, said officers and other social services workers ordered him to stand with his hands behind his back, frisked him and then took his daughter from him and his fiancé at Concord Hospital where the baby had been born.”
The Second Amendement Get Its Due

The invalidation of handgun bans throughout the country, accomplished in the space of two years, was sudden and surprising even to those who have spent decades laying the groundwork. Take Alan Gottlieb, founder and president of the Second Amendment Foundation, which began backing Gura’s various gun lawsuits after Heller. Since founding the SAF in 1974, Gottlieb has been hosting academic conferences, supporting legal scholars and historians, and filing carefully targeted lawsuits in defense of gun rights. Still, he says, “six years ago if you had said [the gun rights community would] see two cases get to the Supreme Court and two victories, I would have said, ‘Not in my lifetime. Maybe in someone else’s.’ â€
This demonstrates that liberty will remain as long as there are paladins who will defend it.

The U.S. government has made two proposals this week that threaten online speech and privacy in radical new ways. Either one, if passed by Congress, will fundamentally rewrite the rules of the Internet. EFF is fighting hard for your rights and needs your help.
These proposals are the most frightening we’ve seen in a long time. The first is a bill called the “Combating Online Infringement and Counterfeits Act,” which would give the Justice Department new powers to censor websites accused of aiding “piracy.” The second is an Obama Administration proposal that would end online privacy as we know it by requiring all Internet communication service providers — from Facebook to Skype to your webmail provider — to rebuild their systems to give the government backdoor access to all of your private Internet communications.
CIA Wants To Kill American Citizen
No matter how you feel about Anwar al-Awlaki, the the Yemeni-based inspiration for some of the recent attacks, you can’t circumvent the Constitution. The man is on a CIA “kill list” which should upset anyone who loves this country and what it stands for. American citizens are guaranteed the right to a trial by a jury of their peers (sixth amendment). So far he has been convicted of nothing and the government claims “state secrets” anytime anyone mentions a trial. Let me just say that the state would not exist if not for the people who created it. If this man is killed then anyone of us could be taken out and then the whole system breaks down.
This man deserves to be sent to the afterlife as soon as possible, but I will be damned if anyone thinks themselves above the law, especially the President, who studied constitutional law.

Anwar al-Awlaki, an American born in New Mexico - yet another home-grown terrorist, educated in an American Mosque
WASHINGTON – The Obama administration on Saturday invoked the state secrets privilege which would kill a lawsuit on behalf of U.S.-born cleric Anwar al-Awlaki, an alleged terrorist said to be targeted for death or capture under a U.S. government program.
Believed to be hiding in Yemen, al-Awlaki has become the most notorious English-speaking advocate of terrorism directed at the United States.
E-mails link al-Awlaki to the Army psychiatrist accused of the killings at Fort Hood, Texas, last year. Al-Awlaki has taken on an increasingly operational role in al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula, the Justice Department said in a court filing, including preparing Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab in his attempt to detonate an explosive device aboard a Northwest Airlines flight from Amsterdam to Detroit on Christmas Day 2009.
In its court papers, the Justice Department said that the issues in the case are for the executive branch of government to decide rather than the courts.

Brady Center Urges Federal Appeals Court to Uphold New DC Gun Law

Washington, D.C. – The Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence, joined by national law enforcement organizations, filed an amicus brief today in federal appeals court in Washington arguing that the District of Columbia’s new gun laws are constitutional.
Dick Heller, the same person who successfully challenged the District’s handgun ban in the U.S. Supreme Court, is seeking to have the court strike down District’s new gun laws. These new laws were enacted to conform with the Supreme Court’s 2008 decision in District of Columbia v. Heller. Although the District’s new laws allow Mr. Heller to have a handgun in his home for self defense (pursuant to the ruling by the Supreme Court), he is claiming that the Second Amendment does not permit the District to prohibit military-style assault weapons, or require proficiency testing, registration and licensing, or to limit his handgun registrations to one per month. These gun laws withstood a constitutional challenge by Mr. Heller in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. Mr. Heller then appealed the court’s decision to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit.

Did you know that Barack Obama has banned nearly a million American made rifles?
Nearly a million rifles.
Banned by Barack Obama and his anti-gun cronies.
In an executive order the Obama Administration has secretly blocked the re-importation of American made M-1 Garand and Carbine rifles being stored in South Korea.
These rifles were used by the US military during the Korean War and left there after the war was over.
With one stroke of his pen, he by-passed the legislative process and banned nearly a million American made rifles by executive fiat.
These rifles were made in America, by Americans and used by American soldiers to defend freedom on foreign shores and are greatly sought after by American shooters and collectors.
Now State Department officials claim these antique, collector rifles could be used to commit crimes.

BREAKING: Firearm Regulation Hearing Set for the 14th
The U.S. Senate has scheduled a hearing for the 14th of September titled “Firearms in Commerce: Assessing the Need for Reform in the Federal Regulatory Process”
Does that sound good to anyone? If you live in or near D.C. I urge you to sit in on this hearing and report back what was discussed. It sounds to me like another improper use of the “commerce clause”.
Additional Info: The hearing was called by the chairman of the committee Senator Leahy of Vermont.
