U.S. Hunts Al-Qaida in Yemen
From Military.com:
The offensive signaled increased concern over the growing strength of al-Qaida in Yemen since the militants gained control of several southern towns by taking advantage of the security vacuum during an uprising that led to the ouster of President Ali Abdullah Saleh.
The effort is supported by the U.S., which considers al-Qaida’s offshoot in Yemen the network’s most active. On Sunday, the White House’s top counterterrorism adviser, John Brennan, met with Hadi in the capital Sanaa.
Just because we are out of Iraq and will soon be out of Afghanistan does not mean the fighting stops. The threats will persist in many forms and we need to face that reality.

Police Obtaining Military Armored Vehicles
Guns.com reports that Orange County SWAT has received a new armored vehicle from Lenco. They say that it can stop .50 caliber rounds and countless hits from smaller rounds. My only question is, why does Orange County need such a heavily armored car when California has banned .50 caliber rifles and no one in the state is allowed to purchase a magazine for a rifle that holds more than ten rounds? If .50 caliber rifles have been banned the police shouldn’t need protection from them, right? Or maybe it is the case that laws don’t solve problems, they just create more of them.

Marines’ Body Armor Requirements Questioned
Posted by Brian in Body Armor, News, Warrior Tools, Warriors on 14/May/2012 08:13
From Military Times:
“It is dumb to have a requirement to stop armor piercing ammunition at muzzle velocity, and for multiple hits, when the probability of encountering that is almost zero. The probability of working your ass off and becoming fatigued and injury-prone and totally angered by the amount of weight you carry is 100 percent,†Solhan told Marine Corps Times in an interview May 3.

Off Duty Gamers
OffDutyGamers.com is a gaming site specifically targeted at military veterans. Here is how they think of themselves in their own words:
This site is for all the active duty military and prior service veterans who enjoy video games and the associated hardware but are easily annoyed with throngs of civilian ‘experts’ who seem to know more about the ‘military’ portion of today’s games than an experienced member of the military. This site is about delivering all the same news, reviews and sense of community coupled with our collective bond of service and unique point of view. This site is primarily for veterans, by veterans and aims to support our community.
The site reviews military games and is a meetup for military personnel who want to play online with other services members.
