“It was actually a real, deep emotional time when they asked me,” Michael told the Free Beacon. “It took me probably over six months to decide to because it’s an intense thing, but the thing that ultimately decided is I want the kids to have a chance and I want to have a chance. If I’m going to throw myself out there anyways, I would like to have something to have a chance to shoot back. Did I ever want to? You know you never want to, but you want to be able to.”

NY Bans Teachers From Carrying Guns

School districts in the Empire State are now forbidden under a new law from authorizing teachers or other staff to carry firearms on campus.
The move came with New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s signature on legislation this week forwarded to his desk by the state’s Democrat-controlled legislature. The bill, S.101A, stipulates that schools can’t issue an authorization to carry a gun to any teacher, administrator or other people not primarily employed as a school resource officer, law enforcement officer or security guard.

Armed Teachers In Florida

DeSantis eschewed calls from gun control groups and signed SB 7030 into law this week. The move allows school or contract employees, as well as law enforcement officers, to be armed under Florida’s new Guardian Program provided they are appointed by the local district superintendent and approved by the school board. The current program is more limited in who can participate, in most cases specifically excluding teachers.
