What’s The Data On Civilians Stopping Shootings?

From The New American:

John Lott, head of the Crime Prevention Research Center, exposed the error on Wednesday in his report “How the FBI Undercounts Armed Citizen Responders to Mass Killers — and Media Play Along.” He reported that the FBI showed that only 11 out of 252 active shooter incidents in its database were stopped by an armed citizen.

But the FBI undercounted the number of incidents they collected between 2014 and 2021. According to Lott’s research, there were a total of 281 active shooter incidents, and 41 of them were stopped by armed citizens.

Recent Shootings Stopped By Armed Citizens

From WSET ABC 13:

“In the last year, there have been 10 of these — what police say would have been mass public shootings — that would have been worse if not for the presence of somebody legally carrying a gun. Since the beginning of 2020, you have 23 of these instances that have been stopped,” Lott said. “They rarely get national attention.”

Ukraine Is An Example Of Why Citizens Should Be Armed

From Bearing Arms:

It’s unlikely civilians in Ukraine will be able to use these new weapons effectively. Not immediately, anyway. If the war goes on long enough, some will learn and become effective. Possibly enough to repel the invasion entirely.

In order to address many of the frequently asked questions, several years ago I came up with a list that I dubbed “The Fundamental Four” of EDC. The Fundamental Four items that every armed citizen should have on their person before they walk out of the front door are; something Lethal, something Sharp, something Bright, and something Medical.

An Armed Populace Prevents Tyranny

From The Federalist:

Contrary to Biden’s claim that Americans would not be able to protect their liberty without F-15s and nuclear weapons, it is still true today, as Alexander Hamilton wrote in “The Federalist Papers,” No. 29, that the Army “can never be formidable to the liberties of the people, while there is a large body of citizens little if at all inferior to them in discipline and the use of arms, who stand ready to defend their own rights and those of their fellow citizens.”

The Reason For The Militia

From American Greatness:

In an obscure but important footnote to the first volume of the Gulag Archipelago, Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn wonders what would have become of the Soviet terror if the citizens of Russia had armed themselves with hammers, axes, pokers—anything—so that arresting officers of the NKVD would have had to worry whether they would survive each night. The most powerful tyranny in the world could not have stood up against such action. Instead, tens of millions of Russians submitted meekly to the state, one by one. Why?

The Left Continues To Misinterpret Gun Culture

From The New Republic:

Rarely do the police chiefs or concealed carriers whom Carlson interviews stop to consider if the ubiquity of firearms in America is the source of that constant sense of danger. Instead, their worldview is guided by twin instincts: what Carlson calls “gun militarism” and “gun populism.” Gun militarism, espoused by essentially every chief she interviewed, is synonymous with the infamous “Warrior Cop” training that conditions police to think of the world as filled with enemies at every corner who must be overpowered at all costs, necessitating an arms race with criminals. Gun populism, meanwhile, aligns with the pro-gun dogma that lawful gun owners carrying in public make America safer either by providing quick responses to threats when police aren’t present or by deterring crime in the first place. One is a top-down approach to meeting an ever-present threat, the other bottom-up. Most of the chiefs Carlson interviewed argued that gun militarism and populism complement one another.

Virginia Passes New Gun Restrictions

From Courthouse News:

“These restrictions are going to harm lawful gun owners,” he said in a phone interview. “It’s not going to lower crime but it’s going to put restrictions on me, someone who’s never committed a crime in my life.”
Van Cleave’s concerns have ironically been echoed by activists and observers who often counterprotest his events.
Kristopher “Goad” Gatsby, who has used his online presence to observe both the Unite the Right rally as well as VCDL’s lobby day, said the gun bans could endanger the lives of Black Lives Matter protesters who have taken to the streets in the last five months.

Armed Customers Fend Off Attack

From Bearing Arms:

Authorities say after the suspect fired into the front of the bar, he then walked to the rear of the building, where several armed citizens confronted him and exchanged fire. None of the armed citizens were injured in that volley, and the suspect and his two friends fled the area after being met with the armed response.

Citizen Stops Mass Shooting

From Bearing Arms:

Village Police Officer Tiger Lee was the first to respond to the scene, but when Nicolai shot at him, Lee couldn’t fire back. That’s because none of the VPO’s in Kewthluk are authorized to carry firearms. Instead, an armed citizen named Casey Thompson was ultimately able to get Nicolai to drop his gun before anyone was hurt.
