Liberty Over Safety

The American character does not like authority. A nation born in rebellion, a country founded by exiles and a people possessed with a pioneer spirit do not respond well to dictates on their movements. It goes against everything that’s American.
Gun Culture Creates Responsible Citizens

Owning and shooting a gun promotes self-reliance, personal responsibility, and community. Whenever I go to a gun range, I see parents teaching their young children how to shoot, men instructing their significant others, and people of all colors and ethnicities enjoying themselves. Nervous skeptics usually end up leaving with a big smile on their faces.
Further, I am surprised by the large number of foreign tourists eager to learn how to handle and shoot a gun for the first time, an activity that is often out of reach—if not outright illegal—for the average person in their homeland. On more than one occasion, I served as an unofficial ambassador and taught European exchange students how to shoot my AR-15 semi-automatic rifle.
Canada Bans More Rifles

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced a gun ban today on 1,500 “military-style assault weapons.â€
Although there will be a two-year amnesty period to allow people to comply, the firearms included in the ban cannot be used anywhere as of today. “The market for assault weapons in Canada is closed,†said Public Safety Minister Bill Blair. “Enough is enough. Banning these firearms will save Canadian lives.â€

With emergency orders ranging from a ban on motorized watercraft to a prohibition on the sale of infant and child car seats (both are apparently non-essential), the Wolverine State’s chief executive has ticked off plenty of everyday people who don’t normally concern themselves with politics.
