Critical Look At The Second Amendment
From Topic.com:
Colonial gun culture held together an uncertain American experiment. Guns were a necessity of frontier life—needed for hunting and protecting livestock—and were also used as insurance against human threats. Guns, and the white men wielding them, controlled indigenous peoples who resisted incursions onto their land and the enslaved peoples whose labor was essential for Southern plantations.
Defense Distributed Dodges Final Shot From Gun Banners
Posted by Brian in Law, News, Threat Watch on 29/Jul/2018 17:09
From The Truth About Guns:
“A U.S. judge on Friday rejected a last-ditch effort by gun control groups to block the Trump administration from allowing the public to download blueprints for 3-D printable guns, declining to intervene just days before the designs are expected to go online.†So reports Reuters.
Gun Banners Rush To Stop 3D Printing
From Guns.com:
However, with news of the looming settlement circulating far and wide on mainstream media, the three largest national gun control groups — Brady, Everytown, and Giffords — banded together to intervene in the legal case, now in an Austin federal court.
On Wednesday, the groups submitted a 22-page filing seeking a temporary restraining order in the settlement, arguing that to allow DefDist to publish the files — some of which have been in the public domain for decades and are already widely available in multiple formats — would cause “immediate and irreparable harm†and contribute to the arming of felons and terrorists.
AR-15 Used To Defend Home In Hawaii
From The Truth About Guns:
Police responded to a report of shots fired at a Haiku home at about 10:35 p.m. Thursday and found three adult victims who said three males wearing hooded sweatshirts entered their home with one of them brandishing a shiny handgun.
3D Printed Gun Threat Is Overblown

From Bearing Arms:
People have been able to make guns for years now. Hell, my first AK was built in a buddy’s backyard from a kit, back before the ATF decreed that barrels had to be destroyed prior to import. Was there a serial number on it? Sure, but only because I put one there.
For all the wailing and gnashing of teeth from anti-gunners, literally nothing changes. In fact, access to this technology may actually make people safer.
9th Circuit Issues Pro Gun Ruling
From The Federalist:
The ultra-liberal and frequently overturned U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit just ruled that the Second Amendment protects one’s right to carry a gun openly outside of the home.
Interstate Gun Ban May Be Headed To Supreme Court
From Guns.com:
The thin majority agreed that the longtime ban on selling handguns over the counter to out-of-state residents is in the public interest. The minority vehemently disagreed with the concept, which predated today’s modern instant criminal background check process, holding it was against the Second Amendment and was confusing when compared to the ability to sell rifles and shotguns without such prohibitions.
Age Discrimination and Guns
From NRA-ILA:
Eighteen-year-olds have not been prohibited from purchasing and possessing rifles and shotguns at the federal level, and in the vast majority of states, since the founding of our country. Nonetheless, because of the violent acts of one individual, we have seen an onslaught of legislation throughout the country that seeks to raise the minimum age to purchase and/or possess rifles and shotguns from 18 to 21. Because common sense has taken a back seat to raw emotionalism in today’s gun control debate, some of these efforts have seen success.
California Gov. Signs “Pro Gun” Bill
Gee I guess “some people†do “need†more than 10 rounds. Thank God we have a ruling elite who can choose them from among the governed.
From Townhall:
Last week, California Gov. Jerry Brown (D) signed a bill that would allow retired law enforcement officers to keep their “high capacity magazines” in the Golden State, The Santa Clarita Valley Signal reported.
ACLU Fails To Defend Civil Rights
After sliding backwards on the First Amendment the ACLU is now attacking the Second.
From The Truth About Guns:
The ACLU has conspicuously ignored self defense as a right for decades when it involves the use of firearms. This glaring omission gets embarrassing public attention every time people exercising ACLU-approved rights are attacked or killed.
9th Circuit Prevents Magazine Confiscation
From Reason:
Today the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals upheld a federal district count injunction against a California law to confiscate firearms magazines that hold over 10 rounds. The Ninth Circuit’s 2-1 opinion is here, and the dissent is here. My analysis of the 2017 district court opinion is here.
Defensive Gun Use vs Car Accidents

From FEE.org:
How is it that so many kids raised on “Harry Potterâ€, “The Hunger Gamesâ€, “Star Warsâ€, and all the Marvel action figure movies manage to miss a critical point of the stories? The lesson being: If you want to prevail over evil villains, you must have the proper tools to fight back.
Resisting Tyranny With The Second Amendment
Posted by Brian in Law, News, Threat Watch on 13/Jul/2018 17:00
From Vox:
The Second Amendment does not create a right of revolution against tyranny. That inherent right is universal. As stated in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, adopted by the United Nations in 1948, “[I]t is essential, if man is not to be compelled to have recourse, as a last resort, to rebellion against tyranny and oppression, that human rights should be protected by the rule of law.” The Universal Declaration was influenced by the Declaration of Independence, thanks in part to the US delegation led by Ambassador Eleanor Roosevelt (who carried her own handgun for protection).
Gun Rights Outreach
From The Truth About Guns:
When I formed Armed Equality I wasn’t exactly sure where I wanted to take the group in terms of big picture, long term goals. I just knew I needed to do something helpful in response to the Pulse nightclub hate crime and terrorist attack. I started by reaching out to local shops and instructors to feel out who would be the most supportive.
Part of our cause is helping people in non-traditional demographics feel comfortable in 2A community spaces. If this sounds like a foreign or ridiculous concern to you, chances are you’re a non-LGBT white male and that’s okay. None of us has any influence over the gender, sex, or race we came into this world with, as and we all have extremely different life experiences.
Bias and the Gun Debate
The guy is Canadian and misses a few points but overall it’s worth a read.
From Medium:
So why to do we continue to argue about this? One problem that I rarely see being discussed is that many of us have limited experience with guns and/or violence and have to rely on what we know from memory and from external source and we’re susceptible to cognitive biases.
