Todd Heisler/The New York Times Border Patrol agents in the north routinely board Greyhound buses and Amtrak trains to check the immigration status of riders.
ROCHESTER — “The Lake Shore Limited runs between Chicago and New York City without crossing the Canadian border. But when it stops at Amtrak stations in western New York State, armed Border Patrol agents routinely board the train, question passengers about their citizenship and take away noncitizens who cannot produce satisfactory immigration papers.
“Are you a U.S. citizen?†agents asked one recent morning, moving through a Rochester-bound train full of dozing passengers at a station outside Buffalo. “What country were you born in?â€
When the answer came back, “the U.S.,†they moved on. But Ruth Fernandez, 60, a naturalized citizen born in Ecuador, was asked for identification. And though she was only traveling home to New York City from her sister’s in Ohio, she had made sure to carry her American passport. On earlier trips, she said, agents had photographed her, and taken away a nervous Hispanic man.”

Smuggling operations infecting NORTHERN border

According to Oliver King (Iranian illegal alien Hamid Malekpour), this is an accurate depiction of your average American hunter.
“The northern border is apparently a new focus of the arms trade. The Yamhill Valley News-Register of McMinnville, Ore., reported in May that a major cache of weapons was found in a storage unit in Ferndale, Wash.
The alleged smuggler was listed in the complaint as Iranian illegal alien Hamid Malekpour, who sometimes uses the alias Oliver King.
Longmire reports that weapons smuggling from the north is increasingly common, but the purpose for Iranians to bring in weapons through Washington state is unclear.”
Agents eventually arrested him at a storage locker in Ferndale where they say King had stowed over $30,000 worth of guns and ammo.”

Montreal: Veiled women breeze through security

“OTTAWA – Transport Minister John Baird said a video posted to YouTube showing veiled passengers boarding a plane without showing their faces at Montreal’s Trudeau International Airport was “deeply disturbing.â€
The video, filmed July 11 and posted last month by a British traveller, purports to show a man presenting passports to an Air Canada check-in clerk for himself and four women, two of whom have veils covering their faces, two of whom do not.
The clerk does not check to see the faces of the veiled women, and all five board flight AC 864 from Montreal to Heathrow.”

… U.S.’s often overlooked northern border has some very serious challenges of its own and there are real and very serious criminal and terrorist threats along its long frontier. The U.S. Canada border has been called the worlds friendliest and for a long time many Americans viewed crossing the border into Canada on par with crossing state lines. It has commonly been seen as very easy to cross, low hassle, and having minimal security presence even at checkpoints.
For those very same reasons this same border has been becoming increasingly attractive to criminals and terrorists that see great opportunity for smuggling and low chance of being apprehended. The U.S. Canada border is massive in terms of mileage and greater in size than the southwest Mexican border that is very large in its own right.

After police visited Mr Hossain at his suburban home in Mississauga, Ontario in 2007, he wrote: "You can't charge me for possessing a thought."
“A Muslim immigrant who called for “the slaughter of Jews” in online postings has become the first person to be charged with promoting genocide in Canada, police said on Friday.
Salman Hossain, a 25-year-old from Bangladesh who apparently left Canada in May, was charged with five counts of promoting hatred and advocating or promoting genocide over postings on his website and blog, as well as on a third-party website, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) said.
He “wilfully promoted hatred and advocated genocide of the Jewish community,” said a statement.
Mr Hossain, who immigrated to Canada as a child, openly called for “violent regime change in Western nations in order to remove the presence of Jews” and “the slaughter of Jews,” according to reports.
He also advocated terrorist attacks in Canada, cheered the killing of Canadian troops in Afghanistan, and urged fellow Muslims to overthrow the “Jewish-run Canadian government”.”

He immigrated as a child to a peaceful, tolerant (maybe too tolerant?) country – Canada – and yet, when he grew up to be a young man he actively and openly advocated killing Jews and committing terrorist attacks in Canada. Why? Where did he learn this? Where was his loyalty to Canada, the country that took him and his family in?
