Part of Chicago Gun Law Unconstitutional
From the Chicago-Sun Times:
Der-Yeghiayan, in a 30-page ruling, called that part of the Chicago Firearm Ordinance “unconstitutionally void for vagueness,†and said it violated Shawn Gowder’s right to keep and bear arms under the Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.
Chicago police see spike in cop killings, assaults
Posted by Jack Sinclair in News on 4/Dec/2010 17:07
CHICAGO — The police officer was in full uniform, gathering evidence from a car break-in when someone walked into the garage and shot him and the car’s owner in the head, then fired another bullet into their heads as they lay on the ground.
The brazen, daylight slaying last week of Officer Michael Flisk underscores what Chicago police have been saying for months: They are increasingly confronting people willing to attack them even as overall violent crime in Chicago continues to fall.
Five police officers have been killed in the line of duty this year — the most in at least 25 years. A sixth police officer was gunned down as he sat in his vehicle while off-duty just a few days before Flisk’s death.

Chicago Six Flags sponsoring “Muslim Family Day†– the day after 9/11
Posted by Jack Sinclair in News, Opinion on 24/Aug/2010 00:32
MUSLIM DAY AT SIX FLAGS is being sponsored by the Islamic Circle of North America which openly supports HAMAS and Hezbollah and refuses to condemn them. It has been under investigation for fund-raising for and money laundering to Islamic terrorist groups.
Six Flags tells its employees: “Out of respect (to Islam), we request the employees wear their uniform pants, instead of their shortsâ€no matter how hot it is.
Better get used to it: your lives are going to change more and more as we are pushed into showing “respect” for Islam. Muslims in the Netherlands pressured cities to force construction workers to stop wearing shorts, too, because it “offended” them.
Well, it offends me that they would have the gall to put on a special Muslim celebration the day after 9/11. They are not shy about voicing their outrage over the slightest perceived insult, why should we sit quietly and let them insult the memory of those murdered by Islamic Purists?

NEW lawsuit filed over Chicago’s gun limits
Posted by Jack Sinclair in Law, News on 17/Aug/2010 22:10
“Only months after the Supreme Court struck down the city’s restrictions on guns, Chicago is the target of a new lawsuit because it now requires gun owners to practice at gun ranges but bans the ranges themselves.”
“While the city has adopted new regulations that make it legal to own handguns,” said Alan Gottlieb, executive vice president of the Second Amendment Foundation, “they have crafted this new ordinance to make it virtually impossible for prospective gun owners to meet all legal requirements unless they travel outside the city for mandatory training.
The new ordinance prohibits public gun ranges inside the city yet the city demands that handgun owners get at least one hour of range training time.”
Supreme Court: Americans have right to own a gun for self-defense anywhere they live
Posted by Jack Sinclair in Law, News on 28/Jun/2010 22:13
“WASHINGTON — The Supreme Court held Monday that Americans have the right to own a gun for self-defense anywhere they live, expanding the conservative court’s embrace of gun rights since John Roberts became Chief Justice.
By a 5-4 vote, the justices cast doubt on handgun bans in the Chicago area, but signaled that some limitations on the Constitution’s “right to keep and bear arms” could survive legal challenges.”

Is Chicago trying to stifle right-to-carry ‘town hall meetings’?
Posted by Jack Sinclair in Law, News on 25/Jun/2010 22:52
Kurt Hofmann, St. Louis Gun Rights Examiner:
“Back in April, I wrote about Illinois Carry’s announcement of a series of “town hall meetings” throughout the state, to educate the public about defensive handgun carry. Since then, those meetings have started the process of building public support for armed self-defense.Perhaps they’re making a difference–attitudes certainly seem to be changing. That’s why gun rights advocates were really looking forward to having such a meeting right in Chicago itself, and why it’s so unfortunate that a planned south-side Chicago meeting for June 30th has suddenly been thrown into limbo. From the Chicago Reader:
Gerald Vernon says he did everything he should have to obtain a permit to hold a meeting at the Tuley Park field house on the south side…and walked away thinking he’d reserved a meeting room for the evening of June 30. The group that would be convening was Illinois Carry, an organization advocating for the right to bear concealed firearms.
But on Wednesday, a week before the scheduled date of the event, he got a call telling him his permit had been revoked.
The event has apparently been canceled–with no explanation.”
Chicago Gun Ban
Now that the Heller case has been decided in D.C., the next battleground is Chicago.
