New Book On The History Of Blacks And Firearms

The author writes about his book, Negroes and the Gun, in The Washington Post:

Speaking to both fugitives and freemen in 1854, Frederick Douglass advocated, “A good revolver, a steady hand and a determination to shoot down any man attempting to kidnap…. Every slave hunter who meets a bloody death in his infernal business is an argument in favor of the manhood of our race.” Douglass, like others in the early freedom movement, would come to view slavery as basically a state of war.

US Agents Banned From Using Firearms While Assisting Mexican Authorities

From Fox News:

U.S. agents on assignment in Mexico, where they are helping the local authorities go after violent drug cartels, are not allowed to carry weapons for their own protection, a situation that one lawmaker says could turn into “another Benghazi.”

President Obama gave tacit approval to Mexico’s prohibition against U.S. agents carrying weapons in March 2011, following the ambush killing of ICE agent Jaime Zapata and the wounding of his partner, Victor Avilla.

The Need For Mulitiple Firearms

From USACarry:

One of the obvious reasons to own multiple guns is in case one of them breaks. If you’re using a quality gun, such as a Glock or Smith and Wesson M&P or Springfield XD, then the chances are slim. But they are mechanical devices and eventually something may go wrong.

Build Your Own Firearm

The Truth About Guns has an interesting article on a little known law that allows individuals to build their own guns without serial numbers if the gun is 80% or less complete. There are some stipulations:

The machine work must be done by the end-user—no contracting it out or having a friend do it. The finished firearm can not be transferred in ANY manner. No willing it to your kids. No giving it to a friend. If you no longer want it, after your inheritors pry it from your cold, dead hands, it MUST be destroyed.

These rules seem arbitrary and silly.

Incoming DNC Head Wants All Gun Purchases Screened

From The Hill:

Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz said the current law, which allows private firearm sales without background checks, is “outrageous.” The Florida Democrat is sponsoring a soon-to-be-released proposal extending the screening requirements to all gun purchases, commercial or private.

This will only hurt the Democratic Party and the President if any kind of bill is introduced. Every time the Democrats propose something related to guns we all know that it is intended as a stepping stone to eventual disarmament of the American public. For those that have forgotten:

Second Amendment to the United States Constitution

“A well regulated militia, being necessary for the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.” (emphasis added)

BREAKING: Firearm Regulation Hearing Set for the 14th

The U.S. Senate has scheduled a hearing for the 14th of September titled “Firearms in Commerce: Assessing the Need for Reform in the Federal Regulatory Process”

Does that sound good to anyone? If you live in or near D.C. I urge you to sit in on this hearing and report back what was discussed. It sounds to me like another improper use of the “commerce clause”.

Additional Info: The hearing was called by the chairman of the committee Senator Leahy of Vermont.

UN Treaty Is Backdoor Gun Ban For USA

Via Big Government:

Gun owners might not feel besieged right now, but they should be very concerned. Last week the Obama administration announced its support for the UN Small Arms Treaty. This treaty poses real risks for freedom and safety in the United States as well as the rest of the world.

The UN’s solution isn’t too surprising when one looks at the long list of notorious totalitarian regimes, such as Syria, Cuba, Rwanda, Vietnam, Zimbabwe, and Sierra Leone, which support these “reforms.” But not all insurgencies are “bad.” To ban providing guns to rebels in totalitarian countries is like arguing that there is never anything such as a just war.
