Canadians Fight Back Against Gun Ban
From Guns.com:
A petition to stop the Liberal government of Canada implementing a ban on “military-style assault rifles†has reached 153,000 signatures – well over six times bigger than any previous petition. The petition opened on Dec. 17, 2019, and will close on Feb. 15, 2020.
Prominent law enforcement officers have stated that a ban will have little effect. “When we seize handguns, the handguns are always, almost 100-percent, in the possession of people who have no legal right to possess them. They’re almost always stolen or illegally obtained,†said Winnipeg Police Service spokesperson Const. Rob Carver earlier this month.
Georgia Dems Intro Bill To Ban All Semi Auto Firearms
From News Target:
Sen. Donzella James has filed SB 281, which would “prohibit the possession of automatic and semi-automatic guns,†regardless of make, model or the fact that these weapons are used so infrequently to commit crimes it is nearly statistically insignificant.
In addition, the bill includes other popular provisions among Democrat gun grabbers: A ban on ‘high capacity magazines’ (more than 10 rounds), and private sales at gun shows. And it would require “secure storage†of guns by dealers (as though gun stores around the state are lightly secured as it is).
Dems Who Criticize Beto On Confiscation Want Equally Stupid Ban
From Reason:
Beto O’Rourke is taking flak from other Democratic presidential contenders for supporting mass confiscation of military-style rifles, a proposal several of them view as an impractical campaign gimmick. Although they are right about that, all the Democratic candidates are guilty of magical thinking on this issue, because they support an “assault weapon” ban that cannot reasonably be expected to have a measurable impact on gun violence.
They Want The 2nd Amendment Gone
From Bearing Arms:
That leads to only one logical conclusion: Repeal the Second Amendment and start over from presumption that you do not need a gun unless you are going off to war or going off to train for war.
A Gun Ban Is What They Want
From The Federalist:
The point is that if we’re going to advocate for tighter gun laws on the basis of numbers, the same exact reasoning would apply to alcohol and tobacco in arguably a much stronger way. Yet from my experience, many people hesitate to extend the reasoning this far. Maybe they are drinkers or smokers themselves, or maybe they see it as “going too far.†But again, from a purely numbers perspective, the reasoning is hard to dispute.
Another Death From “Red Flag” Law
From Gateway Pundit:
Last November a 61-year-old Maryland man was shot dead while police were trying to serve him a “red flag†order.
Â
The local officials said it was a sign the law is needed.
There’s more…
The police arrived at his house at 5 AM.
The old man had a gun in his hand and was shot dead!
Ignorant Republicans Support “Assault Rifle” Ban
From Bearing Arms:
Most Republicans would support legislation banning assault-style weapons, a new POLITICO/Morning Consult poll found Wednesday — a finding that contradicts President Donald Trump’s claim earlier the same day that there’s “no political appetite†for such restrictions.
The poll found that nearly 70 percent of all voters would back such a ban. Support for an assault-weapons ban was higher, at 86 percent, among Democrats, who have been pushing for new restrictions on the firearms in the wake of two mass shootings over the weekend.
NY Post Overreacts After Shooting
From Bearing Arms:
The New York Post is blasting its support for a new ban on semi-automatic rifles on the front page of the paper today. Op-ed editor Sohab Ahmari tweeted out the news earlier this morning, calling the most commonly sold rifles in the country today “military-grade weapons.â€
NY Bans Teachers From Carrying Guns
From Guns.com:
School districts in the Empire State are now forbidden under a new law from authorizing teachers or other staff to carry firearms on campus.
The move came with New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s signature on legislation this week forwarded to his desk by the state’s Democrat-controlled legislature. The bill, S.101A, stipulates that schools can’t issue an authorization to carry a gun to any teacher, administrator or other people not primarily employed as a school resource officer, law enforcement officer or security guard.
Judge: Semi Auto Rifles Are The Same As M-16s
From Guns.com:
The order, in a case brought by several gun owners in 2017 seeking to declare California’s “assault weapon†ban unconstitutional, saw U.S. District Judge Josephine Staton side with the state’s point of view. Staton, extensively citing briefs in the case from anti-gun groups such as the Brady Center, Everytown and Giffords, found that semi-autos banned either by name or cosmetic features such as collapsible stocks or muzzle brakes were basically military-grade hardware.
Stolen Guns and Insurance
From The Truth About Guns:
She said had no firearm insurance at all. She wasn’t a NRA/GOA member and didn’t think that something like this would ever happen to her. She lived in a good neighborhood. She expected people not to break into cars in broad daylight in a city hall parking lot. Stolen firearms were always something that happened to other people.
Delaware Gun Ban Stopped
From Delmarva Now:
After failing to pass gun control legislation, Democratic lawmakers and the governor admit they’ve lost the battle this year.
It helps explain why Sunday’s gun rights rally on the steps of Legislative Hall on the last day of this year’s session looked more like a picnic than a protest.
California Law Banning Under 21 Gun Owners Challenged In Court
From Bearing Arms:
Second Amendment right groups sued the state of California Monday over the new law banning the sale of firearms to people under the age of 21.
“Once individuals turn eighteen, they are adults in the eyes of the law,†said John W. Dillon, the Carlsbad attorney representing the groups, the Los Angeles Times reported.
More Calls For Banning ARs
From The Morning Call:
“Allentown has now joined the pantheon no city ever wanted to be in: Cities which have seen mass shooting with someone using an AR-15,†state Rep. Mike Schlossberg said.
The legislation would effectively ban the possession, purchase, transfer, use or manufacture of those weapons in Pennsylvania, with exceptions for military and law enforcement. But it would allow people who owned the weapons prior to the date of enforcement to continue doing so.
Who Do Gun Laws Punish?
From The Objective Standard:
Granted, some people misuse guns: In 2011 an estimated 11,101 of 15,953 homicides involved a gun, as did 19,766 of 38,285 suicides, as did 851 of 122,777 accidental deaths. But such misuse is not grounds for outlawing guns. Legitimate laws—those that protect individual rights—do not punish law-abiding individuals for the crimes of others, nor do they restrain the psychologically healthy because of the suicidal, nor do they restrain the responsible because of the irresponsible.
