Brits Want Handgun Ban Reconsidered
From Guns&Ammo:
Rounding up a list of six ideas proposed by readers—including term limits on Parliament members, a flat tax and even a ban on spitting in public—is a repeal of the U.K.’s ban on private handgun possession, a result of the Firearms Act of 1997.
The reasoning sounds awfully familiar: “After all, why should only criminals be ‘allowed’ to possess guns and shoot unarmed, defenceless citizens and police officers?†wrote user Colliemum.
5th Circuit Says No Handguns for 18-20 yr olds
From SFGate.com:
…the court said that the Second Amendment does not confer a right to carry weapons beyond the home, and therefore the law was within the Legislature’s authority.
What!? The Second Amendment doesn’t allow a person to carry a firearm beyond the home? What world are those justices living in? At 18 a person can join the military and vote for the leader of the free world, both of which impart far more responsibility on that person than carrying a firearm. This is another example, out of hundreds, of our inconsistent laws.
Gun Locks Are Worthless
This video is from DEFCON a conference about technology and security. In this particular video the speaker demonstrates how most gun locks and safes are worthless. WARNING this video has foul language.
Diane Feinstein: Totalitarian Hypocrite
Posted by Brian in Law, News, Threat Watch on 1/Jan/2013 14:56
If she could she would ban all firearms in spite of the second amendment:
Now is trying to do that with the banning of all weapons with detachable magazines and magazines that hold more than ten rounds:
Here is the example of her hypocrisy. She wants to be able to protect herself but would deny law abiding citizens that ability.
The people that voted this woman into office should be ashamed of themselves. She doesn’t care about the Constitution and any quip about hunting is just lip service for those that support the second amendment. For those NRA members that think it is ok to ban so called “assault weapons”, I would ask you to seriously reconsider your position. Try to envision a United States where these weapons are banned and forbidden to be in anyone’s possession. No one wants to imagine a despot or dictator taking over, but that is sure to happen when the people are unable to defend themselves. It may not happen immediately, it may happen 50 years after, but sooner or later some power hungry person will take advantage of a disarmed populace. What Mrs. Feinstein is attempting to do is lay the foundation of this future United States. On Thursday Jan. 3 she will introduce her legislation.
Of all people Ice T gets it:
Washington Times Editor Finally Gets Handgun Permit
Senior editor Emily Miller has been on a quest, determined to navigate the insane bureaucracy of Washington, D.C. to get a handgun for self defense. Even after the Heller case it is still a nightmare. Â You can read the final installment of her series here.
Excerpt:
When I first started the “Emily Gets Her Gun†series, I thought  I would be waiting in long lines and filling out lots of paperwork. I never could have imagined that the D.C. gun laws made it so unearthly difficult to get a legal handgun. However, I also never could have believed that this newspaper series would encourage change in Washington’s gun laws.
Now, this series is far from over. As I’ve found, the hurdles placed before gun owners do not end here. I need to figure out the laws on getting ammunition and transporting the gun to a state that allows practice shooting.
Indiana Expands Concealed Carry
From Evansville Courier & Press:
Hoosiers who have permits could take their guns to libraries, public hospitals and city council meetings under a measure the state Senate approved Monday.
“They are your first responder,†Tomes said, referring to those carrying concealed weapons. Senate Bill 292 passed on a 38-12 vote. It now moves to the House.
Ammo Ban Overturned in California
From The Volokh Conspiracy:
The lawsuit alleged that, “It is practically impossible, both for those subject to the law and for those who must enforce it, to determine whether any of the thousands of different types of ammunition cartridges that can be used in handguns are actually ‘principally for use in’ or used more often in, a handgun. The proportional usage of any given cartridge is impossible to determine, and in any event changes with market demands.â€

Chuck Taylor – Handgun Stopping Power
Posted by Jack Sinclair in Opinion on 30/Oct/2010 15:49
“Were I to “play the percentages,” or base my opinion on a more narrow examination such as (for example) a review of the files of the law enforcement agencies with which I have been associated or draw from my own personal experiences alone, I could legitimately state that .45 ACP 230 gr. “hardball” fired from a M-1911 Colt auto, is 100% effective!
How? Simple — in all of the departmental shootings in which it was used, it worked. And because in five of the seven pistol fights in which I have been a participant, I used a .45 with ball ammo — and it worked. I won all five with my first shot, my opponent collapsing before I could fire again. Five center hits, five one-shot stops, five DOS (dead on the scene).
Perfect, right? 100% effective. See what I mean about percentages? It’s all in your perspective, isn’t it?
The first handgun failure-to-stop (FTS) I experienced was…
