Gun Confiscation During Katrina

This is one person’s experience during a terrible situation. From The Bang Switch:

Yes, some guns were confiscated in New Orleans, LA (NOLA) following hurricane Katrina, but it was nowhere near as widespread as some would have you believe. They were isolated incidents and the majority of those were done by out of town LEO and MIL.

What you are about to read are my personal experiences and recollection of events as I saw them. While not all-inclusive, I think they lend a fiar account of what really happened on the ground.

Rally in Temple Texas in Support of Gun Rights

From Guns.com:

A local news station reported that the “Come and Take It” rally, which was organized by Don’t Comply, was part of a response generated after Army Master Sgt. CJ Grisham was arrested in March for “rudely displaying” his AR-15. While it is legal to open carry long arms in Texas, apparently a concerned citizen called when she saw the man carrying the weapon while on a Boy Scout hike with his son in the rural community.

Brits Want Handgun Ban Reconsidered

From Guns&Ammo:

Rounding up a list of six ideas proposed by readers—including term limits on Parliament members, a flat tax and even a ban on spitting in public—is a repeal of the U.K.’s ban on private handgun possession, a result of the Firearms Act of 1997.

The reasoning sounds awfully familiar: “After all, why should only criminals be ‘allowed’ to possess guns and shoot unarmed, defenceless citizens and police officers?” wrote user Colliemum.

Mother Jones: How To Build Your Own AK

Mother Jones is trying to scare people by publishing an article on the legal practice of building an un-serialized rifle for personal use.

And because we’re assembling the guns for our own “personal use,” whatever that may entail, we’re not required to stamp in serial numbers. These rifles are totally untraceable, and even under California’s stringent assault weapons ban, that’s perfectly within the law.

Colorado Gun Laws Violate Constitution and ADA says David Kopel

From Westword.com:

“The ADA requires state and local governments to make accommodations for disabled people, particularly in regard to major life activities,” he says. “And many disabled people have less ability when they’re attacked in their home to retreat to a point of safety or get behind cover from which they can change a magazine. They may have less mobility, or some might have only one arm, for example.

“So it’s more difficult for them to change magazines than do other people — and therefore, even if the magazine ban were constitutional in general, which we argue it is not, the people with relevant disabilities are entitled to reasonable accommodations to larger magazines.”

Fox News: DHS Flips Out Over 3D Printed Guns

From Fox News:

A May 21 bulletin distributed to numerous state and federal law enforcement agencies and obtained by FoxNews.com states that the guns, which can be made by downloading blueprints into cutting edge computers that mold three-dimensional items from melted plastic, “poses public safety risks” and are likely beyond the current reach of regulators. The guns threaten to render 3D gun control efforts useless if their manufacture becomes more widespread.

Power to the people.

Here is Reason.com’s take on the situation.
