Media Ignore AP Style Guide Rule About Guns

Back on July 14, 2022, even Alan Gottlieb at the Second Amendment Foundation expressed appreciation that the AP, which produces what is essentially the “bible” of the media—the Associated Press Stylebook—stated, “It’s about time the media realized the terms ‘assault rifle’ and ‘assault weapon’ are inflammatory and meaningless. Those terms have become part of the gun prohibition lobby’s lexicon, and unfortunately, journalists across the country have been all-too-willing to adopt their vocabulary and repeatedly use it in their reports.”

Vox Concerned About Gun Rights Winning

From Vox:

The Supreme Court could hand down a decision any day now in National Association for Gun Rights v. City of Naperville, a case that could legalize assault weapons and high-capacity magazines in all 50 states.

The case challenges a Naperville, Illinois, ordinance and a similar Illinois state law, both of which ban assault weapons, which the state law defines to include certain semiautomatic rifles such as AR-15s and AK-47s. Additionally, the state law prohibits the sale of a “large capacity ammunition feeding device,” which the statute defines as long gun magazines that hold more than 10 rounds of ammunition, or handgun magazines that hold more than 15 bullets.

Congress Wants AR/AK Pistols As NFA Items

From Guns.com:

Describing them as “concealable assault-style rifles,” a group of Democrats in Congress called on President Biden Wednesday to regulate semi-auto rifle-caliber pistols under the National Firearms Act.

In a letter penned by Democrat U.S. Reps. Val B. Demings (FL-10), Joe Neguse (CO-02), Ed Perlmutter and Mike Thompson (CA-05), then signed by roughly half their caucus, contends that AR- and AK-style pistols should be covered under the NFA, a move that would require $200 tax stamps, registration, and layers of ATF red tape.

Ghost Gunner Now Supports AK Receivers

From The Truth About Guns:

When Defense Distributed launched their faster, larger, more powerful Ghost Gunner 3 mill they noted it is powerful enough to cut steel. At that point it was only a matter of time before AK-47 receivers were coming off the GG3, and that time is now.

The “Weapons of War” Lie

From The Truth About Guns:

It’s a common trope of American political discourse: a politician will emphatically declare his respect for the Second Amendment. He will deny that he’s â€œcoming for your guns.” After all, he knows that gun-grabbing is unpalatable to many Americans.

But, in his very next breath, he’ll backpedal a bit — surely, civilians don’t need and ought not possess “military” firearms, those notorious “weapons of war.” And…well, yes, he will come for thoseguns.

“Ghost Guns” Can’t Be Controlled

From Bearing Arms:

It’s easy for someone writing to say that the ATF should regulate “ghost guns,” but the problem is that there’s no practical way to do it. Sure, the ATF could redefine at what point a receiver becomes a firearm, but that will likely push people to build guns complying with the new rules. It wouldn’t actually stop anyone.

Biden Goes Full Gun Confiscation

From The Federalist:

What’s more, the man accurately references comments Biden made at rally on March 2 while accepting the endorsement of Beto O’Rourke. Biden said, “I’m going to guarantee this is not the last you’ve seen of this guy,” referring to O’Rourke. “You’re going to take care of the gun problem with me. You’re going to be the one who leads this effort.”
How else can one interpret that except as an endorsement of gun confiscation? After all, it was O’Rourke who in a September debate boasted, “Hell, yes, we’re going to take your AR-15, your AK-47.”

Donations Surge To NRA After Confiscation Talk

From The Washington Free Beacon:

The NRA’s PAC raked in $1.3 million in total contributions throughout September, an increase of nearly $400,000 from its previous month, with an overwhelming majority of its cash haul coming from small donors. Of the $1.3 million, $981,277 was sent from individuals contributing less than $200. September was the fourth month in 2019 that the PAC has collected at least $1 million; it currently has $10 million on hand.
The spike in funding came as Democrats running for president have increasingly moved toward support for new gun bans, and even confiscation. Beto O’Rourke, slipping in the polls, promised, “hell yes, we’re going to take your AR-15, your AK-47,” during September’s primary debate. Senators Kamala Harris (D., Calif.) and Cory Booker (D., N.J.) have both indicated support for O’Rourke’s plan.

Gun Confiscation Would Be Tragic

From The Washington Examiner:

There are no official statistics on how many guns Americans own, but the Small Arms Survey is the most widely recognized estimate of civilian, police, and military gun ownership in the world. Its most recent estimate puts civilian-owned firearms in America at about 400 million. That’s far more than in any other country in the world. There are more guns here than there are people. Civilians own 100 times as many guns as the military. Americans own so many guns it amounts to three times all the world’s militaries combined.

NASCAR Refuses Gun Ads

From The Washington Examiner:

Dark Storm Industries said an ad it submitted featuring one of the company’s AR-15s was rejected and online retailer K-Var Corp. said an ad featuring an AK-47 and 9mm handgun was also rejected. Both said a NASCAR advertising agency solicited ads from them for NASCAR publications. They submitted ads but were told NASCAR would not accept them.
