How Did The FBI Break Into iPhone?
From the EFF:
In addition, this new method of accessing the phone raises questions about the government’s apparent use of security vulnerabilities in iOS and whether it will inform Apple about these vulnerabilities. As a panel of experts hand-picked by the White House recognized, any decision to withhold a security vulnerability for intelligence or law enforcement purposes leaves ordinary users at risk from malicious third parties who also may use the vulnerability. Thanks to a lawsuit by EFF, the government has released its official policy for determining when to disclose security vulnerabilities, the Vulnerabilities Equities Process (VEP).
First Manned Test Of New Carrier Arresting Gear
From USNI News:
The landing of the Super Hornet marks the start of manned aircraft tests for the system that was also installed in parallel on Gerald R. Ford (CVN-76) — currently finishing construction.
The facility in New Jersey had arrested simulated dead loads and jet cars ahead of the first manned arrested landing with the Super Hornet from Naval Strike Aircraft Test Squadron 23 (VX-23) on March 31, according to a General Atomics statement.
“More than 1,200 successful dead load arrestments have been completed at the Jet Car Test Site in Lakehurst, New Jersey,†stated Dean Key with General Atomics said in the statement.
“Now, with the arrestment of aircraft, we take an important step in verifying the dynamic controls and system performance as a whole.â€

The legislation, House Bill 786, expands current carry provisions from carrying in a bag, purse, or satchel without a permit to carrying holstered without a permit, as well. TheNRA-ILA reports that Michael Bloomberg-funded Everytown for Gun Safety vehemently and unsuccessfully opposed the bill, which passed the House by a vote of 85-35.
Governor Phil Bryant (R) is expected to sign the bill into law.
Adm. McRaven Doesn’t Want Students Carrying Guns
From The Daily Texan:
“I’m a big second amendment guy, you know; I’m a strong supporter,†McRaven said. “But my position today — I’m an educator. As I look across the students and the faculty and the administrators and the staff and their concerns that they have voiced to me about this creating an unsafe environment with more guns on campus, it’s hard for me to support campus carry when I see their concerns.â€
White House Removes “Islamist Terrorism” From French President’s Remarks
From Media Research Center:
Number of Younger Shooters Growing Rapidly
From The Washington Times:
“What separates shooting sports from stick-and-ball sports is that when it’s time for our kids to go to a tournament, all the kids can compete — heavy, thin, tall, short, fast, slow, boy or girl — it doesn’t make them any different,†Mr. Wondrashsaid. “That’s what really lends itself to our sport.â€
The SSSF has programs in 42 states and has seen participation grow from about 6,000 students four years ago to 13,000 now, Mr. Wondrash said.
The European Union Is Not a Security Union
Posted by Brian in News, Threat Watch on 2/Apr/2016 07:00
“The European Union Is Not a Security Union is republished with permission of Stratfor.”
Summary
In the wake of any shocking event, national governments and officials of the European Union invariably call for more cooperation between member states to prevent anything similar happening in the future. The response to the March 22 terrorist attacks in Brussels has been no different.
Following the attacks, the governments of Germany, Italy, France and members of the European Commission demanded a global response to the terrorist threat. The commission’s president, Jean-Claude Juncker, even proposed the creation of a “security union” to combat terrorism at the continental level. In a March 24 meeting, ministers at the EU Justice and Home Affairs Council highlighted the need to share information among member states to fight terrorism. But despite the calls for greater cooperation among EU members, the national interests of individual member states will prevail in the long run, limiting the possibility of integration within the bloc on security issues. License To Carry to Exceed One Million in Texas
From CBS DFW:
…a combination of fears of terrorism brought on by the shootings in San Bernardino and President Obama’s proposed gun control laws.
“Then you have the new law that went into effect January the first (Open Carry)…all of that plays into it, and that’s why we’re seeing numbers. For the first time the State of Texas will actually go over one million licensed holders,†says Cargill.

California Bill Could Treat Gun Owners Like Murderers
From Ammoland:
The bill, authored by Senator Ben Allen (D-Redondo Beach) will make non-violent firearms related crimes “continuing offenses.†These offenses involve unlawful self-importation or transfers of firearms. These crimes need not have any criminal intent, nor is there a victim involved. These victimless crimes are the act of import or transfer, not possession.
SB 1037 would make this prosecutable for life- the same as capital murder- all for forgetting to fill out a form and mail it to the California Department of Justice with $19.00.

From Bearing Arms:
A St. Paul, Minnesota man was brutally assaulted by a gang of 15 to 30 young men who were gambling in his driveway as he returned from work.
32-year-old Bruce Chang says when he tried to clear the group to gain access to his driveway, they began to assault him, even throwing rocks and jabbing sticks at his face and torso.
Fortunately for him, his wife also has a permit. She was able to run outside and draw her gun – scaring off the gang and ending her husband’s violent attack.
Even As Russians Withdraw, Their Legacy in Syria Remains
Posted by Brian in News, Threat Watch on 26/Mar/2016 07:00
“Even As Russians Withdraw, Their Legacy in Syria Remains is republished with permission of Stratfor.”
Analysis
As the departure of Russian forces from Syria announced March 14 continues, evidence of construction at Russia’s main air base in the country demonstrates Moscow’s intention to maintain a military presence there. Imagery dated March 17 acquired by Stratfor of the Bassel al Assad air base in Latakia province and the naval base at Tartus highlights the ongoing Russian drawdown of its forces in Syria that Moscow contends will be largely completed by March 20.
The imagery shows that as of noon local time March 17, more than a quarter of the Russian air group at Bassel al Assad air base had departed Syria. Three Su-34 combat aircraft and a Tu-154 transport plane were the first to leave March 15, followed a day later by all 12 Su-25 ground attack aircraft and a number of Il-76 transport planes. The transport planes carried the mechanics, aircrew and equipment that serviced the combat aircraft. The Russians have indicated that a number of Su-24 aircraft departed March 17, but the imagery indicates that the Su-24 group was still largely in place. It is possible that those Su-24s departed after the imagery was taken. Read the rest of this entry »
