A look at some problems that can happen with a poorly or improperly made AK47
Our Troops Need Better Pants
Posted by Gary in News, Warrior Tools, Warriors on 5/Sep/2011 21:56
From: Micheal Yon
Rip, rend and slash are all in a day’s work here. Yet I have never seen so many troops with so many pairs of pants that are ready to fall off.
Last week this mortar crew was firing at some people who were trying to kill us. We have plenty of ammo. No complaints there. On the larger bases, the gyms are outstanding. The dining facilities have ice cream. Our troops are supremely outfitted and resourced, and so this missive is specific in nature and not a general resourcing indictment. Generally speaking, we are good to go in Afghanistan, other than never having had enough troops and aviation having been an issue at times and places. But overall, no complaints on the way units are outfitted. Five stars. The outfitting is so good that it’s embarrasing to complain. My tent has airconditioner. The showers have hot water. I live far rougher (other than the bombs and bullets) on some of my vacations. That’s a fact. But since we are talking about pants in combat, it’s worthwhile to say something.
The troops need better pants. For every ripped image here, I’ve seen many others. Usually the troops will duct tape their pants together, or sew when time permits. When your pants rip at midnight and you still have hours to move before sunlight, you might be wearing shorts and sporting bleeding legs before there is a chance to sew. I saw one troop who had sewn his trousers with parachute cord. (Must have used a knife for a needle.)
Libyan Rebels Flying Their Own Minidrone, supplied by Canadian company
Posted by Jack Sinclair in News, Warrior Tools on 23/Aug/2011 16:56
Aeryon Labs, a Canadian defense firm, revealed on Tuesday that it had quietly provided the rebel forces with a teeny, tiny surveillance drone, called the Aeryon Scout. Small enough to fit into a backpack, the 3-pound, four-rotor robot gave Libyan forces eyes in the sky independent of the Predators, Fire Scout surveillance copters and manned spy planes that NATO flew overhead.

How the Ultimate Sniper Rifle Was Made
Posted by Jack Sinclair in Accuracy International, Long Guns, News, Warrior Tools on 18/Aug/2011 15:53
“The Portsmouth company, Accuracy International (AI), equips the British Special Boat Service and Special Air Service with sniper rifles. In 2008, it signed a 3.7 million-pound contract to supply almost 600 sniper weapons to the UK Ministry of Defence. What came out of the SEALs’ approach to AI was a new gun.
“The fact that such a small company can be a world-beater in the manufacture of quality weapon systems in a market dominated by huge American and European companies is a huge achievement,†says Color Sergeant Lee Chevenix, a British Army sniping-team instructor. “I know from first-hand experience how revered the AI product is, even in the States, where traditionally U.S. producers are favored.â€
AI’s weapons are now part of long-range sniping lore. Craig Harrison, a British Army sniper from the Household Cavalry, hit two Taliban machine-gunners with two consecutive shots at a range of 2,475 meters in Helmand province, Afghanistan, in 2009. Inadvertently he had taken the world sniping record using an L115A3, the 0.338-inch caliber military sniper-rifle system made by AI that is now standard issue for the British Army.”

Stolen Colt 1911 Returned to MOH Recipient after 30 Years
From: Mail Tribune
A historic Colt .45-caliber, semi-automatic pistol stolen more than 30 years ago from a Medal of Honor winner in South Carolina has been returned to its rightful owner. The gun and owner were reunited after a history buff in Medford, who bought the old handgun in an online auction last month, tracked down the retired Marine whose name is engraved on it. “I knew if I found him and it was his gun, I couldn’t keep it,” said George Berry, 71, who knew little about the history of the gun when he purchased it from an auction house in Pennsylvania.
The story begins when Berry, a retired Navy warrant officer who also served in the Marine Corps, decided this summer to fulfill a lifelong dream of owning one of the historic handguns. “I’ve always wanted to own a Colt Model 1911 .45 automatic — always wanted one,” he says. “John Wayne had one in every World War II movie I’ve ever seen him in.”

AK Mod: Left Side Upper Charging system
Posted by Jack Sinclair in Accessories, Long Guns, News, Warrior Tools on 20/Jul/2011 22:53
Upper Charging system for Kalashnikov Rifles
This item replaces the original gas tube with a new one that contains a new charging handle and slide. The new charging handle protrudes from the left side directly over the forearm of the rifle at the perfect angle to allow for easier and less troublesome charging. With a slight force in the upward direction from the operator the bolt assembly can be locked out of battery and away from the chamber.
Features:
• Non- reciprocating charging handle in a natural location
• Trouble free installation, no gun smithing required
• Faster reloading due to less hand manipulation
• Allows operator to keep firing hand on grip
• Much easier to operate when firing prone and/or around obstacles (i.e., car doors, windows, etc.)
• Quicker cooling on gas system.
• Eliminates all exterior moving parts (when existing handle is removed)
Army Carbine Competition Controversy
Posted by Brian in News, Warrior Tools, Warriors on 18/Jul/2011 16:25
The Military Times reports on the growing controversy surrounding the competition for the army’s next carbine:
The concerns and complaints are various, but largely fall into one of three categories: rights to technical data, quality control during production, and perceived limits on capabilities and calibers.
Perceived limits on capabilities and calibers have also drawn ire. Specifically, the lack of recognition for modular weaponry has left some surprised, and others frustrated.
