NYPD Shoots 9 Civilians
Posted by Brian in News, Opinion, Threat Watch on 27/Aug/2012 18:58
It is bad enough that the citizens of New York are not allowed to protect themselves, now the police are responsible for shooting nine innocents. The mantra of anti-gunners is, “you don’t need a gun, just call the police.” Tell that to the nine New Yorkers who were shot by those who were sworn to “serve and protect” the public. Had one person in the area been allowed to carry a concealed gun and was in fact carrying, I submit to the reader that the gunman would have been stopped before the police arrived.
California Tries to Ban More Guns
Posted by Brian in Law, News, Threat Watch on 21/Aug/2012 08:24
From NRA-ILA:
Senate Bill 249, as amended, would make a small but profound change to the definition in state law of what constitutes a detachable magazine for a semi-automatic firearm. By doing so, as many as one million semi-automatic rifles (with a “bullet button†or other magazine locking device), which were legally sold in California over the last twelve years, would become illegal on July 1, 2013. If you’re one of the hundreds-of-thousands of Californians who purchased one of these modern sporting rifles (a centerfire semi-automatic rifle with a magazine locking device that prevents detachment of the magazine without a bullet or tool) since 2000, your firearm will have to be surrendered or may be confiscated.
Illinois Is Beating the Gun Ban Drum
Guns.com reports that Illinois governor Quinn wants to ban AR-15s and high cap mags. He is of course using the shooting in Colorado to push his ideology and will no doubt use the recent shooting in Wisconsin as well.
As reported by the Associated Press, the proposal would specifically ban the AK-47, AR-15 and TEC-9. And in a way, it would be confiscatory. In other words, if one couldn’t prove they had purchased the firearm prior to the ban, then he/she would face punitive consequences.
Venezuela Bans Guns
Posted by Brian in News, Threat Watch on 1/Jun/2012 17:22
Venezuela joins fellow communist regimes such as the USSR, China, North Korea, and the Nazis by banning gun ownership. I now expect crime to increase and would not be surprised by a crackdown on citizens from the government.
From the BBC:
Under the new law, only the army, police and certain groups like security companies will be able to buy arms from the state-owned weapons manufacturer and importer.
California Wants to Ban Unloaded Rifles
From Guns.com:
Once Assemblyman Anthony Portantino D-La Canada Flintridge realized that there’s no way to tell if a person’s gun is actually unloaded, he modeled this new bill to place an outright ban on all rifles in public. There is already a similar ban on handguns in the state of California.

The UN’s “Small Arms Treatyâ€: a massive, global gun control scheme?
Posted by Jack Sinclair in News on 27/Sep/2010 21:22
The Obama Administration just announced they would be working with the United Nations to pass a new “Small Arms Treaty.â€
The UN’s “Small Arms Treaty†is nothing more than a massive GLOBAL gun control scheme, designed to register, ban and CONFISCATE firearms from law-abiding citizens; and
The new treaty will likely be designed to force national governments to enact tougher licensing requirements, making law-abiding citizens cut through even more bureaucratic red tape just to buy a firearm legally; and
The United Nation’s “Small Arms Treaty†would also likely ban the trade, sale and private ownership of ALL semi-automatic weapons; and
The ratification of this treaty would also likely create an international gun registry, setting the stage for full-scale gun confiscation.

NEW lawsuit filed over Chicago’s gun limits
Posted by Jack Sinclair in Law, News on 17/Aug/2010 22:10
“Only months after the Supreme Court struck down the city’s restrictions on guns, Chicago is the target of a new lawsuit because it now requires gun owners to practice at gun ranges but bans the ranges themselves.”
“While the city has adopted new regulations that make it legal to own handguns,” said Alan Gottlieb, executive vice president of the Second Amendment Foundation, “they have crafted this new ordinance to make it virtually impossible for prospective gun owners to meet all legal requirements unless they travel outside the city for mandatory training.
The new ordinance prohibits public gun ranges inside the city yet the city demands that handgun owners get at least one hour of range training time.”
UN Treaty Is Backdoor Gun Ban For USA
Via Big Government:
Gun owners might not feel besieged right now, but they should be very concerned. Last week the Obama administration announced its support for the UN Small Arms Treaty. This treaty poses real risks for freedom and safety in the United States as well as the rest of the world.
The UN’s solution isn’t too surprising when one looks at the long list of notorious totalitarian regimes, such as Syria, Cuba, Rwanda, Vietnam, Zimbabwe, and Sierra Leone, which support these “reforms.†But not all insurgencies are “bad.†To ban providing guns to rebels in totalitarian countries is like arguing that there is never anything such as a just war.

Canadian gun banners want to set US law

Coalition for Gun Control president Wendy Cukier
“One third of all guns in the world are in the U.S. And half the guns used to commit crimes in Canada come from south of the border. So yes, this country needs and wants an International Arms Treaty.†Coalition for Gun Control president Wendy Cukier
“James Sheptycki described what he termed “pistolization†to describe the social phenomenon of the gun as an everyday item.â€

How to Disarm America
Posted by Gary in Law, News, Opinion, Threat Watch on 16/Mar/2010 13:26
This from the Pittsburgh Post Gazette is an oldie but goody. I like to trot this one out from time to time when people ask me “why so much politics”, “Why do you feel the need to post and re-post every little political blurb about guns and the Constitution“? There is even a pretty good gun website where right on the home page banner it says ” No Politics, Just Guns”. Wouldn’t it be great if we didn’t have to worry about our freedoms? But if that was the case we wouldn’t need Sheepdogs or Warriors. I could spend a lot more time drinking Scotch and smoking cigars and less time scouring the Internet and Old Media looking for the next threat vector. Until that day, we remain as always. Now here from 2007:
Disarm America? Here’s howWe’re swamped with guns, but if we want to get rid of them, there is a way to do itSunday, April 29, 2007The tragedy at Virginia Tech, with a mentally disturbed person gunning down 32 of America’s finest — intelligent working people with futures ahead of them — puts once again into focus for Americans the phenomenon of an armed society.
Dan Simpson, a retired U.S. ambassador, is a Post-Gazette associate editor (dsimpson@post-gazette.com). The likely underestimate of how many guns are wandering around America runs at 240 million in a population of about 300 million. What was clear at Virginia Tech is that at least two of those guns were in the wrong hands. When people talk about doing something about guns in America, one of the points that comes to the fore is, “How could America disarm even if it wanted to? There are so many guns out there.” Today I want to address the question of “how” — if we decided to. Since I have little or no power to influence the “if” part of the issue, I will stick with “how.” Read the rest of this entry »
Chicago Gun Ban
Now that the Heller case has been decided in D.C., the next battleground is Chicago.
