Gov’t Settles Case With Defense Distributed
Posted by Brian in Law, News, Threat Watch on 11/Jul/2018 07:00
From Reason:
The Justice Department has reached a settlement with the Second Amendment Foundation and Defense Distributed, a collective that organizes, promotes, and distributes technologies to help home gun-makers. Under the agreement, which resolved a suit filed by the two groups in 2015, Americans may “access, discuss, use, reproduce or otherwise benefit from the technical data” that the government had previously ordered Defense Distributed to cease distributing.
Op Ed: Our Culture of Gun Addiction
Retired Psychologist wants regulations on ads of guns, just like tobacco.
From Savannah Now:
The hard truth is that we live in a gun culture — collectively accepting guns as part of our lives. Gun messages pervade our senses in the form of billboards, gun magazines and the high number of retail stores selling guns. These messages are so commonplace that we have become immune to how unique we are in the civilized world.

Posted by Brian in Law, News, Threat Watch on 7/Jul/2018 07:00
From SOTT.net:
Czech president MiloÅ¡ Zeman has put his name to a petition opposing an EU diktat which would clamp down on legal gun-owners and backed a constitutional amendment which would guarantee citizens’ right to keep arms for self-defence and protection of the homeland.
Bias and the Gun Debate
The guy is Canadian and misses a few points but overall it’s worth a read.
From Medium:
So why to do we continue to argue about this? One problem that I rarely see being discussed is that many of us have limited experience with guns and/or violence and have to rely on what we know from memory and from external source and we’re susceptible to cognitive biases.
The State of Concealed Carry Reciprocity
From The Truth About Guns:
One of the most hotly debated issues on the Second Amendment is over the right to carry firearms outside the home.  Today, each of the 50 states as well as the District of Columbia authorizes ordinary citizens to carry a handgun in most public places under one of the following three regimes:
- Constitutional Carry: 12 states
- Shall-Issue permit: 30 states and DC
- May-Issue permit: 8 states
Gun Group Files Massive Comment In Support Of Bump Stocks
From Guns.com:
The more than 900-pages of documentation was compiled with the assistance of attorneys Joshua Prince and Adam Kraut of the Pennsylvania-based Firearms Industry Consulting Group, argue that the prohibition could affect as many as 500,000 bump stock owners unconstitutionally, making those who don’t comply subject to criminal action and those who do left without compensation for their legally-purchased property.
Micro Stamping Law Upheld In California
Posted by Brian in Law, News, Threat Watch on 29/Jun/2018 18:00
From Guns.com:
California’s high court on Thursday sided with the state in a long-running case brought by firearms industry groups who say the state’s microstamping requirement is unattainable.
“Impossibility can occasionally excuse noncompliance with a statute,†Justice Goodwin Liu said for the majority. “But impossibility does not authorize a court to go beyond interpreting a statute and simply invalidate it.â€
Seattle Pushing Gun Lock Mandate
From Guns.com:
Leaders in Washington’s largest city are moving forward with a plan to mandate safe gun storage and penalize those who fail to report lost or stolen guns.
Banks Continue Discriminating Against Gun Businesses
Posted by Brian in News, Threat Watch on 26/Jun/2018 14:36
From Yahoo:
In the wake of high-profile mass shootings, corporate America has been taking a stand against the firearms industry amid a lack of action by lawmakers on gun control. Payment processing firms are limiting transactions, Bank of America stopped providing financing to companies that make AR-style guns, and retailers like Walmart and Dick’s Sporting Goods imposed age restrictions on gun purchases.
The moves are lauded by gun-safety advocates but criticized by the gun industry that views them as a backhanded way of undermining the Second Amendment. Gun industry leaders see the backlash as a real threat to their industry and are coming to the conclusion that they need additional protections in Congress to prevent financial retaliation from banks.
Venezuelan Immigrant Has Questions For Gun Grabbers
From Guns.com:
Toward the end of the video Franco asked some very pointed questions which should be asked of anyone who wants to strip Americans of their Second Amendment rights. These questions are not only serious in nature but relevant to the discussion of gun control on a broader level.
Americans Have Changed, Not Guns
From TribLive.com:
What’s the difference between yesteryear and today? The logic of the argument for those calling for stricter gun control laws, in the wake of recent school shootings, is that something has happened to guns. Guns have behaved more poorly and become evil. Guns are the problem.
The job for those of us who are 65 or older is to relay the fact that guns were more available and less controlled in years past, when there was far less mayhem. Something else is the problem.
NJ Sued Over New Gun Restrictions
From Townhall:
The Association of New Jersey Rifle and Pistol Clubs filed a lawsuit in federal court challenging the constitutionality behind the high-capacity magazine ban. ANJRPC filed the lawsuit immediately after Murphy signed the bill into law.
“This unconstitutional law will be ignored by criminals and madmen, and affects only law-abiding citizens,†ANJRPC executive director Scott Bach said in a statement. “It turns one million people into criminals with the stroke of a pen, limits self-defense, and takes away property lawfully acquired,†continued Bach. “Buy it yesterday, ban it today, go to prison tomorrow – it’s the Jersey way, and the goal of our lawsuit is to boot this law, which makes no one safer, into the trash heap of history where it belongs.â€

Sikh AG Wants Restrictions On 80% Kits
Posted by Brian in News, Threat Watch on 18/Jun/2018 07:00
From Guns.com:
Grewal’s action targets unnamed “ghost gun makers†who he argues advertises build and kits to New Jersey residents with possible civil action under New Jersey’s Consumer Fraud Act, with as much as a $10,000 penalty for initial offenses. He holds that fraud is committed because the makers do not disclose that possessing a firearm classified under state law as an unregistered “assault weapon†in New Jersey is a crime.
“As the chief law enforcement officer for New Jersey, I demand you stop selling and advertising unregistered and unserialized assault weapons to New Jersey residents,†Grewal says in the letter. “Should you fail to comply with this demand within 15 days, my Office will initiate legal action.â€
