Biometric Database of All Adult Americans Hidden in Immigration Reform

This is really scary stuff from Threat Level.

The immigration reform measure the Senate began debating yesterday would create a national biometric database of virtually every adult in the U.S., in what privacy groups fear could be the first step to a ubiquitous national identification system.

Buried in the more than 800 pages of the bipartisan legislation (.pdf)  is language mandating the creation of the innocuously-named “photo tool,” a massive federal database administered by the Department of Homeland Security and containing names, ages, Social Security numbers and photographs of everyone in the country with a driver’s license or other state-issued photo ID.

The Acute Jihadist Threat in Europe

The Acute Jihadist Threat in Europe is republished with permission of Stratfor.”

By Scott Stewart, Vice President of Analysis, and Sidney Brown

On March 26, the Belgian federal police’s counterterrorism force, or Special Units, conducted a felony car stop on Hakim Benladghem, a 39-year-old French citizen of Algerian extraction. When Benladghem reacted aggressively, he was shot and killed by the police attempting to arrest him. The Special Units chose to take Benladghem down in a car stop rather than arrest him at his home because it had intelligence indicating that he was heavily armed. The authorities also knew from their French counterparts that Benladghem had been trained as a paratrooper in the French Foreign Legion.

Additional intelligence showed that Benladghem had traveled extensively and that, through his travels and email and cellphone communications, he appeared to be connected to the international jihadist movement. Rather than risk a confrontation at Benladghem’s apartment, where he had access to an arsenal of weapons as well as a ballistic vest and helmet, the police decided to arrest him while he was away from home and more vulnerable. The Belgian authorities did not want to risk a prolonged, bloody siege like the one that occurred in April 2012 in Toulouse, France, when French police attempted to arrest shooter Mohammed Merah. Alabama’s new immigration bill

“The tough new bill includes strict provisions that go even farther than the controversial Arizona law that sparked national debate last year

Alabama’s legislature has passed a hard-hitting bill that would make it a state crime to be an undocumented immigrant. Inspired by Arizona’s controversial law, the Alabama bill would make cops ask for proof of legal residence from anyone they think might be in the U.S. illegally, with the person jailed until their status is verified.

It would also penalize anyone who hires, shelters, rents to, or gives a ride to illegal immigrants, and bars illegal immigrants from public universities.

Young Mexican Thugs kill migrants

“Responsible for the slaughter of some 70 migrants, mostly from Central America, which appeared in a mass grave in the town of San Fernando, Tamaulipas was a 22 year old who was just arrested. This young man ordered the kidnapping of several buses carrying the migrants, detained and tortured them to find out if they had a relationship with a rival group and finally ordered they be killed.

Also arrested was one of the murderers of two of Governor Rodrigo Medina’s bodyguards, who is 18 years of age. SWAT team members of Nuevo Leon were picked up by police in the municipality of Zuazua, and given to assassins who tortured and killed them leaving a message to the governor.

Also last week, there was a very rough gunbattle on the border between Jalisco and Zacatecas. Gunmen who moved in several trucks with federal forces clashed for hours, ten died and several were arrested, including six girls between the ages of 16 and 21 who admitted being killers and sexual partners of members of the criminal group. They collected 12,000 pesos ($1,000) every two weeks.

Such was the case last week. Before this there have been stories of “El Ponchis” and child assassins of Morelos, or the young girls, almost children, with whom Jesús “El Negro” Radilla, head of the same group which “El Ponchis” was affiliated with, who served as sexual partners, assassins or were hired to leave mutilated bodies in the streets; or the thousands of young gang members in Los Aztecas or Artistas Asesinos, engaged in brutal warfare across the border area of Ciudad Juárez.

The stories are innumerable, but the truth is that every time, the assassins of these criminal groups are younger and crueler with their victims, and more money has less to do with their involvement in these criminal groups. Nothing is more worrisome in terms of social phenomenon which has been done directly, than involving thousands of children and adolescents in organized crime, not as in the past being camels (carriers) or consumers and distributors, but increasingly as killers for trace amounts of money.

SCOTUS upholds Arizona immigrant hiring law

The Supreme Court ruled Thursday to uphold Arizona’s law that penalizes companies that knowingly hire illegal immigrants.

In a 5-3 vote, the court concluded that federal immigration law doesn’t prevent the state from revoking the business licenses of companies that violate state law.

Chief Justice John Roberts wrote in the majority opinion that the court had come to its decision because “the state’s licensing provisions fall squarely within the federal statute’s savings clause and that the Arizona regulation does not otherwise conflict with federal law.”

Supreme Court to hear arguments over AZ immigration law

PHOENIX — The impassioned debate over the nation’s immigration policy takes center stage at the Supreme Court Wednesday in a dispute over an Arizona law that punishes employers who knowingly hire workers illegally in the U.S.

Arizona’s employer sanctions law has been used just three times in three years, but business interests and civil rights groups, backed by the Obama administration, have banded together to argue that only the federal government may enforce immigration laws.

The outcome in this case also could signal how the court would handle the controversial and more expansive Arizona immigration enforcement law, known as SB1070, that the administration challenged and a federal judge blocked key components this summer.

The Swiss vote to deport Criminal Foreigners.

“GENEVA — After heated debate and a campaign utilizing controversial “black sheep” posters, Switzerland’s far-right party won voters’ support in a referendum Sunday that calls for the automatic deportation of foreigners who are convicted of serious crimes.”

What resonated with voters were contentions that foreigners accounted for a disproportionate share of Swiss crime. Christian Blocher, the People’s Party leader, asserted at a debate at Geneva University during the campaign that foreigners make up 22 percent of the resident population but account for 54 percent of convictions for grievous bodily harm and 62 percent of robbery convictions. “Prisons do not stop crimes,” he said. “The only way to go about it is to force them to leave the country.”

http://www.nytimes.com/2010/11/29/world/europe/29iht-swiss.html?_r=1

The question I have is, why would this cause heated debate? If you come to our country, then commit a serious crime, you’re out of here.

What’s complicated about that?

Mexico’s Department of Government : 44,978 “undocumented migrants” held from Honduras, Guatemala and El Salvador.

Mexico’s Department of Government reported that some 44,978 “undocumented migrants” were held between January and September of this year in the government’s detention facility in Tapachula, state of Chiapas, on the border with Guatemala. Of the total, 19,783 came from Honduras, 14,148 from Guatemala, and 6.648 from El Salvador.

(Ed. Note: The recently published report about the drop in apprehensions by the U.S. Border Patrol during the fiscal year just ended is quite likely due in part to Mexico’s newly increased effort at detecting and detaining illegal aliens as they attempt to make their way north within its territory. The tally of apprehensions by the U.S. Border Patrol in the last fiscal year still averages at over 1,260 illegal border crossers per day. The article did not mention the total number of illegal aliens detained who came from countries other than those specified. )

Criminal Illegal Alien Deportees Blamed For Caribbean Crime Wave

“SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico — The crime was horrifying enough – a nightclub owner, hacked to death with a machete, was found buried in pieces. But what really outraged people was that the accused killer had been deported from the U.S. to his native Grenada as a convicted felon.

As a foreign-bred criminal, the suspect never should have returned to the close-knit tropical nation, relatives of the victim and others said. Islanders called for more vigilance over deportees by the government, which says it needs help from Washington to handle the return of hardened convicts.

The United States has deported thousands of convicted criminals to the Caribbean annually since 1996, when Congress mandated that every non-citizen sentenced to a year or more in prison be kicked out of the country upon release. In all, the U.S. is responsible for about three-quarters of the region’s returning criminal deportees, with the United Kingdom and Canada accounting for most of the other ex-cons arriving in the islands.

It’s a phenomenon that also afflicts many parts of Central America, where street gangs that grew out of Los Angeles spread to the region through massive deportations. Brutal and powerful, the “Maras” are blamed for rampant violent crime, extortion and more recently acting as enforcers for drug cartels.”

Illegal Aliens: in Yucatan, Mexico

“Mexican immigration officials called it somewhat unusual, but in the city of Merida they found four aliens illegally in Mexico; three of them were labeled as Hindus and one as Central American.

And at the same city’s airport, they found two others also illegally in Mexico, one from China and the other from Guatemala. All six are now detained.”

Is reining in rampant illegal immigration “xenophobia” and “racism”?

“Jorge Bustamante, a Mexican “UN special spokesman for immigrants’ human rights,” said that the “atmosphere of xenophobia” in various parts of the United States is bringing about abuses of immigrants, despite the suspension of parts of the Arizona law.

“In the interim, situations are occurring derived from that ambience of xenophobia that predominates in the state of Arizona and in other parts of the United States, and which lead to vulnerable conditions for the immigrants and lead to abuses.”

Bustamante labeled the law as “racist” because it gives the police the right to detain and expel persons “on the basis of their appearance, and the main appearance is the color of the skin.”

On the other hand, he defended the sovereign right of nations to decide about their immigration laws, and deemed that the concept of universal citizenship is practically impossible to bring about.”

Response: No, the concern of American citizens about illegal immigration has nothing to do with “xenophobia” and “racism”.  Accusing Americans of those attitudes is simply a way of diverting attention from the issue.

Are Americans protesting legal immigration? No. We openly accept immigrants from all over the world. No xenophobia there.

We also embrace and accept legal immigrants from all kinds of races. Any race of legal immigrant is welcome. No racism there.

If you come here, willing to work, willing to contribute, willing to show loyalty to the United States, most Americans will give you the benefit of the doubt, will be open minded.

So what are Americans upset about? We are sick and tired of foreigners breaking our laws, showing disrespect for our nation, being a drain on our resources and social services without contributing taxes, then sending money they earn working here back to the country they left, and bad-mouthing the United States to boot.

I have personally seen protest marchers carrying Mexican flags and signs saying “We are not Criminals”. Well, if you broke the law to get here then yes, you are. And if you are going to stay here, how about showing a little respect and gratitude for the country that is giving you work and educating your children?

Proud of your heritage? Great. But don’t come here illegally and then brag about how great Mexico is. If it’s so great, may we suggest you consider going back? Permanently would be fine.

Or, get in line with all the others wishing to immigrate to the US and do it legally.

Americans don’t object to immigrants. We object to illegal immigrants.

Border Patrol finds tunnel between Sonora and Arizona

“Phoenix, Arizona (Notimex) – US Border Patrol agents located a new tunnel under the border near the port of entry serving the cities of Nogales, Sonora, and Nogales, Arizona.

The tunnel is a little more than 50 feet in length and has a diameter of a little more than two feet. It was discovered Thursday, the same day another tunnel, discovered last August, was being sealed by concrete.

The latest tunnel discovery is the seventh found in Nogales since 30 September a year ago.

Victims of illegal alien crime: Deputy Frank Fabiano, Jr. shot to death

“A decorated Kenosha County Sheriff’s Deputy was shot to death during a routine traffic stop by an illegal alien with four prior arrests in four different states.

Local law enforcement is “doing the job the federal government just won’t do” by being the first line of defense against illegal alien crime in America. Unfortunately, these brave officers are often the casualties of the violent, unidentified foreign nationals residing in American communities across the United States.”
