Sheriffs Getting Death Threats For Refusing Unconstitutional Laws

When investigators looked into the person’s Facebook account, the user also commented on a news story about Grant County Sheriff Tom Jones refusing to enforce the new law. The person commented on the news story saying, “I am going to kill every single one of them,†referring to Republicans. . .
Gun Control Resistance In Washington

The group’s founder, Joey Gibson, said it’s one of many he has been holding across Washington state in response to the gun control initiative that passed last November.
During the meeting, Gibson and other speakers will be urging Whidbey residents to push elected officials to sign an ordinance that prohibits public figures and public funds from going toward “enforcing unconstitutional laws.â€
WA Lt. Gov. Skips Meeting Because Concealed Carry

Lt. Gov. Cyrus Habib did not preside at the governor’s address to a joint session of the Legislature on Tuesday because he felt vulnerable in the House chamber, where people can carry concealed weapons in the public galleries.
“There is no specific threat to me. There is no specific threat we know of, period,” he said before the governor’s speech. “It’s about the policy.”
Washington Attacks Carry Guard Insurance

Insurance coverage backed by the National Rifle Association that would assist gun owners who later claimed self-defense in a shooting may no longer be sold in Washington state, regulators announced Tuesday.
Dubbed “murder insurance†by some gun control advocacy groups nationally, the policies became available in April 2017 through a website jointly run by the gun rights organization and insurance underwriting firms based in Kansas and Pennsylvania. Washington State Insurance Commissioner Mike Kriedler said in a news release Tuesday he would seek $177,000 in fines from the two companies and declared the plans in violation of state law.

Oliver North, NRA president and former host of Fox News’ “War Stories with Oliver North,†told KIRO Radio’s Dori Monson that he finds the measure not only unconstitutional, but also incredibly confusing.

The owner of Wade’s Eastside Guns, Wade Gaughran, said the new gun restrictions under Initiative 1639 punish people who follow the rules and bump up the cost of doing business.
“Now we’ve got a law that’s going to cause problems for us and it’s going to cause problems for consumers and the impact on crime is going to be zero,†said Gaughran.
Washington Passes Draconian Gun Restrictions

I-1639 raises the minimum age to buy a semi-automatic firearm from 18 to 21. It also requires buyers to pass a more thorough background check, go through a 10-day waiting period and complete a training course. The suite of new regulations also contains a “dangerous access prevention†law that increases liability for gun owners who don’t securely store their weapons. If a weapon ends up in the hands of someone banned from owning a gun, for example, the legal owner could be charged with a felony.
Will Self Defense Be Criminalized In Washington?

Law-enforcement professionals recognize the extreme nature of I-1639. Not only does the initiative discriminate against gun owners, it classifies common recreational firearms as semiautomatic assault rifles and requires gun buyers to surrender their medical privacy in order to exercise a constitutionally-protected right.
The strict mandated requirement of this initiative will force individuals to lock up their firearms and render them useless in a self-defense situation, or face criminal prosecution.

Judge Abridges First Amendment

“Judge Lasnik’s ruling involves some of the most amazing legal acrobatics I’ve ever seen,” Alan Gottlieb, founder of the group, told the Free Beacon. “He has accepted the plaintiffs’ claim that the CAD files are only available on the so-called ‘Dark Web,’ but that’s not at all accurate. The files are available on the normal Internet, and now, thanks to the court, they are available by links in the court record. It is particularly disturbing that Judge Lasnik admitted that the court has decided to not fully explore all the issues because of its limited record, while presuming that we have a First Amendment right to disseminate the CAD files. Then he caps it off by saying that our First Amendment right is only abridged, but not abrogated. That’s like saying the government is only stepping on your neck, they haven’t completely crushed your windpipe.”
“If this case had to do with anything besides guns, we all know that the court would stop this nonsense in a heartbeat and we wouldn’t even be talking about it,” he told the Free Beacon. But because this involves publishing information about guns, suddenly the First Amendment is being treated differently, because the Second Amendment is somehow involved.”

Judge Blocks Washington Ballot Initiative

Thurston County Superior Court Judge James Dixon ruled that the petitions circulated by paid canvassing groups working for the Alliance for Gun Responsibility failed to meet state requirements for readability and did not contain a full and correct copy of the printed measure — which Second Amendment advocates characterized as using “microscopic†text. Dixon said his decision was an easy one.

Wyman, a Republican, cautioned that “concerns remain†about the whether the format of the petition signature sheets complies with statutory requirements — as previously questioned by the gun rights groups — but said the initiative could move forward.
