The importance of training

“Rule number one: in a crisis, you will not rise to the occasion, but rather default to your level of training.†Robert Boatman
Mexican ‘Anchor Babies’
Posted by Jack Sinclair in Opinion on 8/Aug/2010 18:43

“These anchor babies then have to be educated. The bill for their education goes to taxpayers, and even more money is spent to educate them because so many only speak Spanish and have to have special programs to help them learn English.
Many are behind developmentally also because they are not exposed to the early childhood learning experiences they need.
I love kids. I taught for 30 years, but the United States cannot take on the expense of providing for children of illegal immigrants when it is slowly taxing our resources to the breaking point.
I fail to understand why Mexican citizens cannot pressure their government to improve and work harder to help improve it. There are more regular citizens than drug lords and politicians. If they united, they could take back their government. Improve Mexico instead of bringing the United States down to the level of Mexico.”
Texas Sen. John Cornyn backs review of ‘birthright citizenship’

By TODD J. GILLMAN / The Dallas Morning News
WASHINGTON – Texas Sen. John Cornyn is the latest senior Republican to call for a review of “birthright citizenship,†amid complaints that illegal immigrants have abused that post-Civil War constitutional provision.
On Sunday’s Face the Nation on CBS, Sen. Jon Kyl of Arizona, the second-ranking Republican in the Senate, suggested congressional hearings. “The question is, if both parents are here illegally, should there be a reward for their illegal behavior?â€
[Sen. Lindsay Graham, R-S.C.,] also asserted that “thousands of people are coming across the Arizona-Texas border for the express purpose of having a child in an American hospital so that child will become an American citizen, and they broke the law to get there.â€
Across Texas, 60,000 babies of noncitizens get U.S. birthright
Posted by Jack Sinclair in Law, News on 8/Aug/2010 18:34
By SHERRY JACOBSON / The Dallas Morning News
“As Republican members of Congress press for changes to the 14th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, preventing automatic citizenship for babies born to illegal immigrants, opponents insist the debate is not really about babies.
Still, the debate could resonate in Texas, where not only 1.5 million illegal immigrants are estimated to reside but at least 60,000 babies are added to their households annually.
Parkland Memorial Hospital delivers more of those babies than any other hospital in the state. Last year at Parkland, 11,071 babies were born to women who were noncitizens, about 74 percent of total deliveries. Most of these women are believed to be in the country illegally.”

Illegal immigrant criminal and Homeland Security Criminal
Posted by Jack Sinclair in Opinion on 8/Aug/2010 18:28

“Illegal immigrants that are in the USA and who commit crimes are a problem and a symptom.
The fact that they are here illegally is problem #1. The fact that they commit a crime is problem #2. That the Homeland Security System failed and allowed this to happen is an overriding problem.
Congress and the Judicial System are not immune either. All branches of government are failing the citizens of the USA when immigration laws are not enforced.”

“A suspected al-Qaida operative who lived for more than 15 years in the U.S. has become chief of the terror network’s global operations, the FBI says, marking the first time a leader so intimately familiar with American society has been placed in charge of planning attacks.”
Saudis to Monitor BlackBerry Data
From: CNET
BlackBerry maker Research in Motion has decided to allow the government of Saudi Arabia access to BlackBerry users’ messages, in order to avoid a ban on the device in the country, the Associated Press reported Saturday.
The AP quoted an official at the Saudi Communications and Information Technology Commission as saying that the deal between RIM and the government would likely involve placing a BlackBerry server inside the country to enable the Saudis to monitor data.
Training with the Shotgun for Home Defense

“I’ve hunted with a shotgun for over 40 years, and I’ve kept one handy for almost that long just in case an intruder needed some persuasion regarding the wisdom of breaking into my house or apartment. I was trained to hunt by my father and other male relatives, but I had never been trained in the defensive uses of the shotgun.
That changed recently when I spent 2 full days at a professional firearms training center learning the theory and practice of close quarters combat with the shotgun and pistol.
The short version of this story is easy: if you plan to use any weapon in self defense, you need to train. Hunting, target practice, and home defense are utterly different. In a real defensive situation, your pulse will race, your hands will shake, and your fine motor skills will vanish. It’s much worse than the worst case of buck fever.
If you’ve practiced working under those conditions, you might have a chance. If all you’ve ever done, as I had, was target practice at the range and hunting, your odds of surviving a defensive encounter are greatly reduced.”

“Iran has received four S-300 Russian long range surface-to-air missile systems even though Moscow decided not to implement a contract it had with Tehran to deliver them because of the new United Nations sanctions.”
Senate dumps strategy to prevent EMP damage
Posted by Jack Sinclair in News, Threat Watch on 7/Aug/2010 16:00
“The U.S. Senate has dropped a House-approved plan that would prepare the United States to defend itself from an attack from any electromagnetic pulse source – whether it would be from a natural solar flare or the detonation of a space-located nuclear weapon by enemies intent on destroying America’s infrastructure, according to a representative who has raised alarms over EMP.”
Taliban Claims Responsibility for Killing ‘Christian Missionaries’
Posted by Jack Sinclair in News, Threat Watch on 7/Aug/2010 15:56
“The Taliban has claimed responsibility for killing ten people, including foreigners, after the bodies were found in dense forest in northern Afghanistan.
The International Assistance Mission, a Christian charity providing health services to the Afghan people, said on its website Saturday the dead people are … were returning to Kabul after working in Nuristan.
The bullet-riddled bodies were discovered Friday.
Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahed told the French news agency a patrol confronted the “Christian missionaries and we killed them all.”
Drag And Draw Gun Vault

“You keep a handgun around for personal protection and defense of your home. And you realize that you’ve got to keep it loaded if it’s going to do you any good. So you keep it loaded and you keep it handy, where you can get at it quickly… and you worry about someone- a child, for example- accidentally getting shot.
If your handgun is loaded and handy, it is also dangerous. What have you done to make sure a child can’t get a hold of it?
The Drag And Draw Gun Vault is a gun vault with entry access by way of your unique fingerprint. Can be opened in seconds. Scans and recognizes your fingerprint in less than one second. This means you can have a loaded gun in your hand in the blink of an eye.”
Supreme Court: Second Amendment doesn’t only apply to a well-regulated militia, but to individual citizens.

By Tamara Dietrich
For many of us, the Supreme Court’s finding that Americans have a fundamental right to own guns for self-defense in their own homes wasn’t ground-breaking — it was common sense.
Outright community bans on firearms or handguns, such as those in Chicago and the District of Columbia, both struck down by the high court in separate challenges, were well-intentioned but wrong. And ineffective — gun violence rates soared in those communities.
Interestingly, last week was the first time justices ruled that the Second Amendment doesn’t only apply to a well-regulated militia, but to individual citizens.
Count me among those not surprised at the decision, but at the 233 years it took to get it.
