BBC Didn’t Translate Iranian Official’s Admission Of Giving Weapons To Hezbollah
Posted by Brian in News, Threat Watch on 15/Aug/2015 07:00
From BBC Watch:
The IranWire article details some of the interesting points made by Araghchi in that meeting, including the following:
“Araghchi confirmed that Iran is arming Lebanese Hezbollah: “We said that we cannot stop giving arms to Hezbollah, and we’re not ready to sacrifice it to our nuclear program. So we will continue doing it.â€â€
Khodnevis attributes the information in its article to a report published by the BBC Persian service (“Araghchi what was said at the meeting with managers of radio and television?“) and another article concerning the removal of the reports by Persian-language outlets was also produced by BBC Persian.
Who Is A Terrorist?
Posted by Brian in News, Threat Watch on 14/Aug/2015 07:00
From The Intercept:
The FBI on Friday announced the arrests in Oakland of two animal rights activists, Joseph Buddenberg and Nicole Kissane, and accused the pair of engaging in “domestic terrorism.†This comes less than a month after the FBI director said he does not consider Charleston Church murderer Dylann Roof a “terrorist.†The activists’ alleged crimes: “They released thousands of minks from farms around the country and vandalized various properties.†That’s it. Now they’re being prosecuted and explicitly vilified as “terrorists,†facing 10-year prison terms.

MKS Supply, LLC, Dayton OH, August 2015– Inland Manufacturing and MKS Supply, LLC, the exclusive marketer for Inland firearms is extremely proud to announce its awarding firearms to two shooters (one, the National Champion) at the National Championships held in July at Camp Perry, Ohio.
Inland Manufacturing’s President, Ron Norton presented Army Staff Sargent Lawrence Cleveland of the U.S. Army marksmanship Unit (AMU) with a replica World War II 1911A1 pistol ($749.00 MSRP) for firing a blistering score of 294-7X out of 300 possible points and winning the prestigious 2015 National Trophy Individual (NTI) Pistol Match. The NTI Pistol Match began in 1904, the second year of the National Matches, and is considered to be the most prestigious pistol event at the Camp Perry National Championships.
Inland Manufacturing also conducted a drawing for all the competitors entered in the .30 caliber M1 CMP (Civilian Marksmanship Program) Carbine Match at Camp Perry.
Raymond Vaughn of Gwynn Oak, MD won the drawing and received a Model 1945 M1 Inland Manufacturing .30 caliber carbine ($1049.00 MSRP). Here is where karma really comes in play; Vaughn was competing at the Carbine Match with a genuine original WWII Inland manufactured .30 caliber carbine!

Official DHS Policy Is To Avoid “Islamic Terrorism”
From Investors Business Daily:
Homeland Security chief Jeh Johnson refuses to call Islamic terror “Islamic,” arguing it’s “critical” to refrain from the label in order to “build trust” among Muslims.
In jaw-dropping remarks Friday at Aspen Institute’s annual security forum, Johnson said the government will call such attacks “violent extremism” over “Islamic terrorism” out of respect for the Muslim community.

From AP:
Idaho Republican state Rep. Heather Scott of Blanchard said the Veteran Affairs office has sent a letter to John Arnold of Priest River warning him that he cannot possess or purchase firearms.
“I took an oath to uphold the U.S. Constitution and uphold the laws of Idaho,” Wheeler said. “This seemed appropriate to show my support. I was going to make sure Mr. Arnold’s rights weren’t going to be breached.”

Laura Poitras Sues U.S. Government
Posted by Brian in Law, News, Threat Watch on 9/Aug/2015 07:00
From EFF:
Washington, D.C. – Academy and Pulitzer Prize Award-winning documentary filmmaker Laura Poitras sued the Department of Justice (DOJ) and U.S. transportation security agencies today demanding they release records documenting a six-year period in which she was searched, questioned, and often subjected to hours-long security screenings at U.S. and overseas airports on more than 50 occasions. The Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) is representing Poitras in a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit against the Department of Homeland Security, DOJ, and the Office of the Director of National Intelligence.
The Second Amendment and “Sporting Purposes”
From NRA-ILA:
In May, I discussed the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives’ varying interpretations of the phrase “sporting purposes†in federal gun control law. We had just fought the agency to a standstill over its plan to ban the manufacture and importation of the M855 cartridge, the second most common variety of ammunition for America’s most popular rifle, the AR-15. B. Todd Jones, then director of BATFE, resigned in the aftermath of that debacle, but not before telling a Senate Appropriations Committee that with pistol platforms for the cartridge available, “any 5.56 round, it’s a challenge for officer safety, public safety.â€
While the NRA has no problem with sports, or the sporting use of arms, that phrase misses the point when it comes to heart of the Second Amendment. By making undefined “sporting purposes†the test for legality under numerous federal firearms laws, Congress not only delegated too much discretion to BATFE, it deemphasized the primary reason Americans own firearms and the primary purpose of their constitutional protection. That reason is self-defense. The M855 episode is just the latest example of why the current congressional scheme, administered by the highly-politicized BATFE, has become untenable. With your help, and the help of Rep. Rob Bishop (R-Utah), the NRA intends to see this problem fixed for good.

Syria: A Chronology of How the Civil War May End
Posted by Brian in Opinion, Threat Watch on 5/Aug/2015 07:00
“Syria: A Chronology of How the Civil War May End is republished with permission of Stratfor.”
Analysis
Editor’s Note: The conflict in Syria is entering a critical phase. Turkey has at long last entered the fight, conducting airstrikes against Islamic State targets in Syria — and capitalizing on the opportunity to attack Kurdistan Workers’ Party militants in northern Iraq. Turkey’s newfound vigor is fueled by a convergence of U.S. and Turkish interests in the region, evidenced by the July 23 agreement between Ankara and Washington to allow U.S. forces to use Incirlik Air Base. There is a shared interest in combating the Islamic State, and both countries want to see a diplomatic resolution to the Syrian conflict that would end the fighting and remove Syrian President Bashar al Assad from power. Al Assad’s frank July 26 comments about the level of fatigue in the Syrian army, combined with the continued success of Syrian rebel groups and the prospect of Turkey’s increased participation, could indicate that the al Assad regime itself is considering its options.
U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry will to travel to Doha on Aug. 3, where he will discuss the future of Syria with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. Stratfor has been tracking the evolution and perspectives of the key parties involved in the Syrian conflict from the opening of hostilities. We are publishing this chronology to highlight our previous analyses and forecasts. Read the rest of this entry »

The U.S. Captial of Jihad
Posted by Brian in News, Threat Watch on 3/Aug/2015 07:00
From Politico Magazine:
A few years back, Melvin Bledsoe was living a black middle-class, Southern Baptist version of the American dream. Both of his children were college bound, a step up the socioeconomic ladder that Melvin’s own parents could never afford. The Bledsoes were a tightly knit family clasped in the bosom of a supportive and familiar community. And then a personal crisis opened the door to an utterly unfamiliar intruder, and an idea was planted in a wounded psyche that improbably blossomed into a dark and noxious ideology. And before they even understood the gathering peril, the Bledsoes’ American dream became a nightmare.
Somehow, in ways that a heartbroken Melvin Bledsoe even now doesn’t fully comprehend, his beloved son Carlos was transformed into a murderous jihadist, a hate-filled man who called himself Abulhakim Mujahid Mohammed.
The Inconsistency of Canada’s Gun Laws
From The Truth About Guns:
It’s 10 rounds for handguns, and 5 rounds for rifles – except that restriction is on magazines themselves, not guns they’re inserted in, and not on how you use the magazine (the crime is “possession of a magazine capable of holding N roundsâ€, not “loading a magazine with N rounds†or “inserting the magazine with N rounds into gun Xâ€).
