Jan. 6 FBI Whistleblower Receives Backpay and Security Clearance

From The Washington Post:

Mr. Allen had his security clearance suspended after the bureau accused him of having conspiratorial views about the Jan. 6, 2021, protest at the U.S. Capitol and of sympathizing with criminal conduct.

According to a November 2023 protected whistleblower disclosure sent by a SecD employee to lawmakers, Senior SecD officials Dena Perkins and Jeffrey Veltri launched an investigation against Mr. Allen because he emailed several news items within his office related to former President Donald Trump that were deemed conspiratorial.

The Gun Rights Implications Of Trump’s Guilty Verdict

From The Truth About Guns:

With 34 felony convictions being delivered to President Donald J. Trump Thursday afternoon by a New York jury—in what is questionably a rigged trial and unquestionably a politically motivated trial—there remain a number of questions on what will actually happen next and how it will play out. One thing that is not in question, at least until a successful appeal is decided on, is that Trump is now barred from owning or possessing firearms.

Journalist Stephen Gutowski over at The Reload was quick to report on some of the obvious ironies this situation creates for gun rights in this country.

In Ukraine New Weapons of War Are Creating New Types of Injuries

From Wall Street Journal:

These aren’t flesh wounds or simple broken legs. Patients are brought in with combinations of brain, face, chest and abdominal wounds. Many require amputations. I am on call almost 300 days a year for complex craniofacial/plastics trauma at three major trauma centers. We see everything. Fortunately we get only a few of the most severe facial mutilations—where someone loses his entire face and survives. In Ukraine, I saw 12. I saw golf-ball-size shrapnel and 3-inch pieces of protective Kevlar armor pulled from lungs and brains.

The chief of neurosurgery at Mechnikov shared with me the hospital’s experience with vertebral artery injuries. (These are two arteries in the spine that feed the brain.) Because of the violent force that causes such injuries, most patients die before reaching the hospital. The typical neurosurgeon will see two or three patients with such terrible injuries over the course of a career. The U.S. military, with incredible evacuation resources, treated 18 vertebral artery injuries during 20 years in Iraq. Mechnikov has treated 91 in two years.

Bank of America Reverses Stance On Gun Investments

From The Spokesman-Review:

Bank of America Corp. is loosening restrictions on lending to the firearms and energy industries amid pressure from anti-ESG politicians in Texas and Florida.

The bank backed off its ban on lending to companies that make assault-style guns used for non-military purposes. Rather, the firm will make such decisions on a case-by-case basis with senior risk officers, according to its latest environmental and social risk policy framework. The Charlotte, North Carolina-based bank also made similar changes to its energy lending policies – it no longer has a blanket ban on financing for Arctic drilling.
