Civilians Should Have Military Weapons Says Potential Army Secretary

Tennessee state Sen. Mark Green (R), President Donald Trump’s nominee for Army secretary, strongly believes that citizens should be armed ― and not just with any ol’ guns. They should be able to possess whatever weapons the military has, because an armed citizenry is the “ultimate checks and balances†against the federal government.
“The Second Amendment, while it allows citizens to protect themselves from other citizens, goes well beyond just allowing us to defend ourselves from a criminal,†Green said at a pro-gun rally in 2013.
Texas Cutting CHL/LTC Fees

The House on Tuesday tentatively approved in an 111-30 vote SB 16, which would drop permit fees from $140 to $40 on first-time applications and renewals from $70 to $40, setting the measure up for a third and final reading in the chamber. A legislative priority for Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, Texas has some of the highest handgun license costs in the country.
Navy Pilots Refuse To Fly Due To Oxygen System

More than 100 U.S. Navy instructor pilots are refusing to fly in protest of what they say is the refusal of top brass to adequately address an urgent problem with training jets’ oxygen system, multiple instructor pilots tell Fox News.
Vice Adm. Mike Shoemaker, head of naval aviation, told Fox News in an exclusive interview that the training jet issue is the “number one safety priority†across naval aviation right now.

Marines To Increase Fielding Of IAR M27

The commandant of the Marine Corps wants to vastly expand the fielding of infantry automatic rifles by putting them in the hands of nearly every “0311†rifleman.
“If we decide to put IARs throughout the rifle squads, we would not arm the squad leader with it, nor the platoon sergeant and platoon commander. Just the 0311 infantry Marines in the rifle squad,†he said.
Beyond the 0311 riflemen, Neller may also consider IARs for Âcombat engineers and light armored Âreconnaissance battalion scouts, a Marine official said.
Upholding “Assault Weapon” Ban Could Backfire

The Supreme Court has refused to hear “assault weapon†cases in the past. However, previous cases were lower profile and the result of narrow readings, not the backwards interpretation exhibited in Kolbe. In its bravado, the Fourth Circuit may have crossed a bridge too far, sparking national debate and possibly forcing the issue to finally make it to the Supreme Court.
The Kolbe court justified their holding through a misplaced reliance on Heller’s discussion of weapons not protected by the Second Amendment: “dangerous and unusual weapons†and those “most useful in military service – M-16 rifles and the like.†This reliance was completely out of context, most obviously because the M-16 and its stablemates are machine guns, not in common lawful use by civilians anywhere. This is a far cry from the pedestrian semi-automatic weapons Maryland actually targeted.

North Dakota Passes Constitutional Carry

House Bill 1169 codified the right of those with a North Dakota drivers’ license or state-issued ID card to carry a concealed handgun. The bill passed the House last month 83-9 and the Senate this week 34-13. Burgum, who carried an “A†rating from the National Rifle Association during his election campaign last year, contends the measure reaffirms Second Amendment rights.
Full Face Ballistic Helmet May Be In Use By 2020

Three years from now, soldiers could be wearing a new ballistic head protection that resembles a motorcycle helmet as part of the Soldier Protection System under development at Program Executive Office Soldier.
The Integrated Head Protection System features a base helmet with add-ons such as a visor, a “mandible†portion that protects the lower jaw, and a “ballistic applique†that is much like a protective layer that attaches over the base helmet.

F-35 Can’t Fly Near Storms

“It is well documented that the F-35A aircraft requires modifications for lightning protection and these modifications have not yet been completed on the two visiting Australian aircraft,†the RAAF said in a March 4 statement posted on its website.
The F-35’s continued inability to fly near thunderstorms, like its inability to take off in fog that was revealed during its six-day ferry flight to Israel in December, shows it is still severely limited in adverse-weather operations, 16 years into its development and 11 years since its first flight.
It also contradicts recent statements by senior Australian ministers, including Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull, who for example claimed “The F-35A is the most advanced fighter in the world,†while Defence Minister Senator Marise Payne said “The F-35A will provide the Air Force with the ability to execute air combat missions which were previously beyond our scope.â€
This is terribly ironic since the aircraft’s referred to as the Lightning II.

Islamic State militant Amar Hussein says he reads the Koran all day in his tiny jail cell to become a better person. He also says he raped more than 200 women from Iraqi minorities, and shows few regrets.
Hussein said his emirs, or local Islamic State commanders, gave him and others a green light to rape as many Yazidi and other women as they wanted.
“Young men need this,†Hussein told Reuters in an interview after a Kurdish counter-terrorism agent removed a black hood from his head. “This is normal.â€
