Rape Survivor’s Story Saves Woman
Posted by Brian in Law, News, Threat Watch on 7/Jun/2016 07:00
From Hot Air:
Obama commended Corban for overcoming a horrific event in her life, adding that his executive actions don’t make it harder for her to purchase firearms, and proceeded to mansplain to her how owning guns could lead to the owner becoming a fatality—an awful thing to say to a survivor of sexual assault, but that’s for another time. Flash-forward to the National Rifle Association’s Annual Meeting in May, Kristi McMains needed to meet Corban, as her story helped her save her life from a would-be robber that attempted to stab her.

Stacey Dash Used Gun In Self Defense
Posted by Brian in News, Threat Watch on 6/Jun/2016 07:00
From Washington Times:
“He had a gun to my head and I thought, ‘My son is in that crib right there,’ †Ms. Dash said. “[I thought], ‘No you are not going to do this. My son’s life was more important to me than my own.’â€
When her attacker came back, Ms. Dash said she picked up a gun and fired several shots at him but missed.
UCLA Shooter Ignored Laws

From National Review:
As soon as the story hit the news, the usual suspects began cranking themselves up. Americans, they said, need to “do something.†It was time, they argued, for “more laws.†And the NRA? It was, of course, to blame. Forgive me for being a broken record, but I have some questions in response to these reactions: Namely, “what something?â€; “which laws?â€; and “what, specifically, did the NRA do wrong here?†Rolled into one, these congeal into a single, simple inquiry: “What law — specifically — would have prevented yesterday’s shooting?â€

Illegals Smuggled In From Middle East
Posted by Brian in News, Threat Watch on 3/Jun/2016 07:00
From The Washington Times:
Those smuggled included Palestinians, Pakistanis and the Afghan man who Homeland Security officials said had family ties to the Taliban and was “involved in a plot to conduct an attack in the U.S. and/or Canada.†He is in custody but the Times is withholding his name at the request of law enforcement to protect ongoing investigations.
“It’s disturbing, in so many ways,†said Joe Kasper, Mr. Hunter’s chief of staff. “The interdiction of this group validates once again that the southern border is wide open to more than people looking to enter the U.S. illegally strictly for purposes of looking for work, as the administration wants us to believe. What’s worse, federal databases weren’t even synched and Border Patrol had no idea who they were arresting and the group was not considered a problem because none of them were considered a priority under the president’s enforcement protocol. That’s a major problem on its own, and it calls for DHS to figure out the problem — and fast.â€

UK Cops Fear Prosecution If They Carry And Use Firearms
Posted by Brian in News, Threat Watch on 19/May/2016 07:00
From GOP USA:
Police chiefs are struggling to recruit enough officers willing to carry a gun to tackle a Paris-style terror attack, because they fear they will be treated as criminal suspects if they use their weapon in the line of duty, the country’s top firearms officer has warned.
After November’s terrorist gun and bomb attacks on Paris, senior security officials believe Britain needs an extra 1,500 armed officers. But because half won’t make it through rigorous training and selection, police chiefs need 3,000 volunteers to come forward.

Russian Aircraft Buzz U.S. Destroyer In Baltic Sea
Posted by Brian in News, Threat Watch on 25/Apr/2016 07:00
From Navy Times:
Russian pilots rattled nerves aboard the destroyer Donald Cook, buzzing within yards of the ship in the Baltic Sea. Provocative, sure. But they weren’t a credible threat.
So concludes a retired Navy commanding officer, who reviewed photos and videos from the run-ins on Monday and Tuesday, when unarmed Sukhoi Su-24 fighters flew within 1,000 feet of the ship — once coming as close as 30 feet in what U.S. officials called “simulated attacks.”  On Monday, a low-flying Russian Ka-27 Helix helicopter also appeared to take photos of the ship.
This was definitely provocative, but it doesn’t amount to a threat, said the retired frigate and cruiser CO.
Russia also intercepted a U.S. reconnaissance plane.

Threat Analysis Of Possible Future Russian Aggression
Posted by Brian in News, Threat Watch on 21/Apr/2016 07:00
From CNAS.org:
In the report, CNAS senior fellows Julianne Smith and Jerry Hendrix examine possible security challenges in effort to prepare the United States and Europe for future existential threats posed by Russia. Smith and Hendrix note that although Europe’s security situation was largely considered stable for much of the last 10 to 14 years, that premise no longer holds true.
Bin Laden’s Arms Dealer Released From Guatanamo
Posted by Brian in Threat Watch on 13/Apr/2016 07:00
Obama Administration released Bin Laden’s arms dealer on April 4 and sent him to Senegal in West Africa.
From the Department of Defense:
On Aug. 20, 2015, the Periodic Review Board consisting of representatives from the Departments of Defense, Homeland Security, Justice, and State; the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and the Office of the Director of National Intelligence determined continued law of war detention of Umar does not remain necessary to protect against a continuing significant threat to the security of the United States. As a result of that review, which examined a number of factors, including security issues, Umar was recommended for transfer by consensus of the six departments and agencies comprising the Periodic Review Board. The Periodic Review Board process was established by the president’s March 7, 2011 Executive Order 13567.
The European Union Is Not a Security Union
Posted by Brian in News, Threat Watch on 2/Apr/2016 07:00
“The European Union Is Not a Security Union is republished with permission of Stratfor.”
Summary
In the wake of any shocking event, national governments and officials of the European Union invariably call for more cooperation between member states to prevent anything similar happening in the future. The response to the March 22 terrorist attacks in Brussels has been no different.
Following the attacks, the governments of Germany, Italy, France and members of the European Commission demanded a global response to the terrorist threat. The commission’s president, Jean-Claude Juncker, even proposed the creation of a “security union” to combat terrorism at the continental level. In a March 24 meeting, ministers at the EU Justice and Home Affairs Council highlighted the need to share information among member states to fight terrorism. But despite the calls for greater cooperation among EU members, the national interests of individual member states will prevail in the long run, limiting the possibility of integration within the bloc on security issues. Wife Thwarts Attack of Husband
Posted by Brian in News, Threat Watch on 28/Mar/2016 07:00
From Bearing Arms:
A St. Paul, Minnesota man was brutally assaulted by a gang of 15 to 30 young men who were gambling in his driveway as he returned from work.
32-year-old Bruce Chang says when he tried to clear the group to gain access to his driveway, they began to assault him, even throwing rocks and jabbing sticks at his face and torso.
Fortunately for him, his wife also has a permit. She was able to run outside and draw her gun – scaring off the gang and ending her husband’s violent attack.
Even As Russians Withdraw, Their Legacy in Syria Remains
Posted by Brian in News, Threat Watch on 26/Mar/2016 07:00
“Even As Russians Withdraw, Their Legacy in Syria Remains is republished with permission of Stratfor.”
Analysis
As the departure of Russian forces from Syria announced March 14 continues, evidence of construction at Russia’s main air base in the country demonstrates Moscow’s intention to maintain a military presence there. Imagery dated March 17 acquired by Stratfor of the Bassel al Assad air base in Latakia province and the naval base at Tartus highlights the ongoing Russian drawdown of its forces in Syria that Moscow contends will be largely completed by March 20.
The imagery shows that as of noon local time March 17, more than a quarter of the Russian air group at Bassel al Assad air base had departed Syria. Three Su-34 combat aircraft and a Tu-154 transport plane were the first to leave March 15, followed a day later by all 12 Su-25 ground attack aircraft and a number of Il-76 transport planes. The transport planes carried the mechanics, aircrew and equipment that serviced the combat aircraft. The Russians have indicated that a number of Su-24 aircraft departed March 17, but the imagery indicates that the Su-24 group was still largely in place. It is possible that those Su-24s departed after the imagery was taken. Read the rest of this entry »
