ACA ANNOUNCES NATIONAL ARMED CITIZEN CHALLENGE
The Armed Citizen Alliance, Inc. today announced the inaugural National Armed Citizen Challenge (NAC2), which will be held September 21-23, 2012, at PASA Park near Barry, Illinois.
The annual NAC2 is a “Sports Fair for the Armed Citizen,†and is open to the public. It is the first such national event of its kind.
- There will be vendor displays, demos, and hands-on firearms product tryout opportunities offered by ACA sponsors, partners, and supporting manufacturers.
- Nationally-qualified instructors and trainers will provide instruction in defense firearms use, and offer situational-awareness and mental-preparedness training.
- There will be on-site classes that can qualify participants for concealed carry licenses in any state with enabling legislation.
- There will be also be recreational events, and a 12-stage “Challenge†which ACA members may enter using their own concealed-carry firearms, with awards for individual performance to those who participate.
According to ACA President Todd Jarrett, “The essence of the ACA Challenge is to offer real-world-based defense scenarios to ordinary Armed Citizens, whereby they can develop familiarity and confidence with their concealed-carry firearms, and be better prepared to deal properly with a dangerous situation should it confront them.â€
The scenarios introduced at the inaugural Challenge will form the basis of ACA Practice & Confidence exercises that will be available nationwide at ACA-affiliated shooting ranges and gun clubs, and which Armed Citizens can practice anywhere they can shoot. ACA Executive Vice President Dick Metcalf states, “The Challenge is not anything like a typical shooting competition. It’s a ‘survival training’ exercise for ordinary folks disguised as recreation. All taking place in the context and atmosphere of a late-summer County Fair for Armed Citizens—but on a national scale.â€
Entry fee for public admission to the NAC2 grounds will be $10 per person per day. ACA members may enter grounds free upon proof of ACA membership. NAC2 training classes, courses, and optional recreational events will have separate enrollment fees. Pre-registration for classes will be available online at www.ArmedCitizenAlliance.com beginning July 15th. Participation in the 12-stage ACA Challenge component of the event is open to ACA Members only, and is limited to 220 entries, first-come, first-served.. Entry fee is $100. Details of the Challenge and downloadable entry forms are currently available thru the ACA website.

Traffic Stops at Night
If you want an officer’s perspective on night time traffic stops Police Mag has an extensive article on the subject. My father is a former LEO and he always told me that if I was stopped at night to turn on the cabin light and then put my hands on the steering wheel until I was asked for my information by the officer. It is a good tip for all you civilians out there to make the officers job as easy as possible during a stop.

Considering a Sunni Regime in Syria
Posted by Brian in News, Threat Watch on 14/Jul/2012 13:55
From STRATFOR:
By Reva Bhalla and Kamran Bokhari
Last week’s publicized defection of the Tlass family marked a potential turning point for Syria’s al Assad regime.
The Tlass family formed the main pillar of Sunni support for the minority Alawite regime. The patriarch of the family, former Defense Minister Mustafa Tlass, had a strategic, brotherly bond with late Syrian President Hafez al Assad. The two military men served as members of the ruling Baath Party in Cairo from 1958 to 1961 when Syria and Egypt existed under the Nasserite vision of the United Arab Republic. The failure of that project brought them back home, where together they helped bring the Baath Party to power in 1963 and sustained a violent period of coups, purges and countercoups through the 1960s.
With Tlass standing quietly by his side, Hafez mounted a bloodless coup and appointed Tlass as his defense minister in 1970. Since then, Tlass has been the symbol of Syria’s old guard regime. Without Tlass’ godfather-like backing, it is questionable whether Bashar al Assad, then a political novice, would have been able to consolidate his grip over the regime in 2000 when his father passed away. Through the Tlass family’s extensive military and business connections, the Sunni-Alawite bond endured for decades at the highest echelons of the regime. Read the rest of this entry »
LEO Encounter With Open Carry
Police who operate in a state where open carry is legal have a duty to know and understand the laws of that state. If ignorance of the law is no defense for civilians, then it is no defense for law enforcement officers. There are many videos just like this one on the ‘net, but I think this is the best one, due to the civilian’s ability to remain calm the whole time and his knowledge of the various laws that the officer admits to breaking. This is a great example of: “Knowledge is power”.
