Ammo Prices to Increase Due to Pollution Regulations
From South Carolina Sportsman:
According to reports from the National Rifle Association and Charlotte-based Ammoland.com, the primary lead smelter at Herculaneum, Mo., will close its doors at year’s end.
The smelter, owned and operated by the Doe Run Company, has been in existence at the same location since 1892. It is the only smelter in the country that can convert raw lead ore into lead bullion mined from large deposits in Missouri.
Evolution of the 300 Blackout
From Small Arms Defense Journal:
The 300 Blackout cartridge fits in the standard AR magazine without any loss of the original 30 round capacity. The standard bolt and barrel extension is used as well. The only difference is the barrel itself. This not only makes for easy logistical support for potential military use of the caliber, but you can pull spare parts from existing .223/5.56mm rifles. The sample rifle has been tested with GI aluminum magazines, H&K high reliability mags, Lancer AWM and Magpul PMags.
Hunting Calibers Hard To Find?
It’s not just .223 that is in short supply.
Shotgun loads for shot and rifled slugs remain easy to find. But reflecting a national trend, availability of rifle and handgun ammunition in Pittsburgh area sporting goods stores is spotty and inconsistent. Many shelves are empty. A clerk at one local store, who asked that he and the retailer remain anonymous, said customers are going from store to store searching for common calibers and sometimes not finding them.
Army To Introduce New Lead-free Ammo in 2014
From Guns.com:
The new cartridge offers much improved performance in just about every circumstance. It travels at higher velocities and has better ballistics and range, it’s great at barrier penetration and is more effective on targets at all ranges.
Brass vs Steel Case
LuckyGunner.com did a thorough test of the differences between brass and steel cased ammo.
Our team decided to try something ambitious and daunting:Â to provide the best resource and data available to answer these questions once and for all through objective experimentation and observation.
We realize this is a lofty and borderline arrogant goal. We’ve done our best. Please keep reading to see if you agree.
Is The Government Destroying Used Brass?
From Examiner.com:
The controversy over destruction of brass under the Obama administration’s DoD was reported in this column in March, 2009, including, unsurprisingly, the observation that “Authorized Journalist†media was once again either oblivious or uninterested.

Idaho Invites Firearm Industry
From Washington Times:
The move by PNW Arms was like a signal flare to business and political leaders in the town of 800 people, who were in the process of trying to determine what industry would be best to pursue.
Potlatch, they decided, would go from timber town to gun town. It would try to lure firearms and ammunition makers, and plans also called for hunting-themed housing and retail development.
Uncle Ted’s Hunting Ammo
Ted Nugent now has his own line of hunting ammunition.
From GunUp:
Pierce Munitions, LLC of Buffalo, NY has entered an exclusive agreement to manufacture the high performance hunting ammunition for avid hunter and music legend Ted Nugent.
Pierce Munitions is a company whose main focus is producing high quality performance ammunition. The Ted Nugent Brand will be available for retail distribution exclusively through American Tactical Imports, Rochester, NY.
