CEO Ed Stack said that Dick’s Sports will never sell AR15 style rifles again, stop selling “high capacity” magazines and will refuse to sell guns to anyone under 21. The only reason Mr. Stack is doing this is to avoid a backlash/boycott by the anti-gun fascists. He is a coward who is refusing to sell legal guns to adults. This new policy is ageist pure and simple.
“We support and respect the Second Amendment, and we recognize and appreciate that the vast majority of gun owners in this country are responsible, law-abiding citizens,†Stack wrote in a letter Wednesday. “But we have to help solve the problem that’s in front of us. Gun violence is an epidemic that’s taking the lives of too many people, including the brightest hope for the future of America — our kids.â€
The Supreme Court has refused to hear “assault weapon†cases in the past. However, previous cases were lower profile and the result of narrow readings, not the backwards interpretation exhibited in Kolbe. In its bravado, the Fourth Circuit may have crossed a bridge too far, sparking national debate and possibly forcing the issue to finally make it to the Supreme Court.
The Kolbe court justified their holding through a misplaced reliance on Heller’s discussion of weapons not protected by the Second Amendment: “dangerous and unusual weapons†and those “most useful in military service – M-16 rifles and the like.†This reliance was completely out of context, most obviously because the M-16 and its stablemates are machine guns, not in common lawful use by civilians anywhere. This is a far cry from the pedestrian semi-automatic weapons Maryland actually targeted.
Writing for the 10-4 majority, Judge Robert King of the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals in Richmond, Virginia, said that the landmark Heller v. District of Columbia decision rendered in 2008 explicitly allows governments to regulate firearms similar in design and function to those issued to members of the military.
The decision marks the fifth time that a federal appeals court has upheld a state assault weapons law, but it goes further than those previous decisions. It is the first to exclude AR-15s and other similar guns from Second Amendment protection on the grounds that they are virtually indistinguishable from weapons of war. The court found that such designation overrides considerations of the common usage or suitability for home self-defense of a gun like the AR-15.
The judges in this case are choosing to be willfully ignorant of the weapons used at the time of the Constitution. There was no difference between arms used in the military/militia and those used for hunting or self defense. Townships had their own armories stocked with cannons (the equivalent of modern artillery). Their argument that the lethality of the weapons disqualifies the weapons is exactly what you would expect from elites in positions of power. They fear the power that the people would wield if allowed to keep and bear such weapons. On another point I would like to know how many of these judges have ever shot or held a gun, let alone own one.

The case involves Ares’ contention that ATF erred and overstepped its authority in declaring the firm’s EP80 polymer precursor receivers (“80 percent receiversâ€) to be complete receivers, and thus “firearms†as defined by the Gun Control Act of 1968.

The key to accurate and quick shooting is trigger control. Trigger control can be greatly improved by correct contact between the trigger finger and trigger. The basic trigger length of an AR is just 2.25 inches which is why most shooters position their hand awkwardly or have their trigger finger dangling out the other side of the trigger guard. NO MORE!

BOTTOM LINE: People will spend a bunch of money getting triggers reworked, attaching cheese graters and doing other nifty stuff to the AR, but AR grip-to-trigger length improvement may be more important to better trigger control function and resulting shooter accuracy than anything else done on these rifles for under $500.00. Additional background information: When installed there is a gap behind the fully enclosed receiver and front edge of the grip where the thumb wraps. This gap increases as the grip length is increased. While different looking from the norm (What’s new with any of the stuff we attach to ARs?) it means nothing in operation or keeping the gun “dust free.”
We are all shooters at our PR firm with some having held NRA National Records. While it is our job to inform you of neat new products we can tell you that this single improvement to our ARs was astonishing. Our staff’s ability to place accurate hits at any speed was dramatically improved by everyone by an easy 25 percent and the trigger feel was 100 percent better. The Improved trigger pull position made 7-pound triggers feel like 3-pounds due to the resulting much improved trigger finger leverage and location.
To better understand this unique grip and why it can really help with accurate shooting, think of length of pull. As you know, length of pull with a rifle or shotgun is critical for accurate and comfortable shooting. Length of pull as applied normally is the distance between the rear of the butt or recoil pad of the rifle or shotgun to the center point of the trigger. This distance allows the shouldered firearm to “best fit” from the shooter’s shoulder to the trigger–length of pull is quite simply an overall trigger reach adjustment. Factory long arms have a generalized distance designed to fit the average person (like factory ARs). Many custom gun makers will measure and build a precise pull length to fit the individual shooter, and many competition long arms and some sniper rifles have fully adjustable pull lengths.
Now apply that concept to the vertical grip of the AR (obviously different from a normal sporting rifle). The conventional AR grip forces the shooter to have their trigger finger a certain distance from the grip–like it or not. The AR vertical hand grip does NOT allow shooters to move their trigger finger hand back or around (like the stock of a conventional hunting-style rifle might, for example). With the AR, you are stuck! On top of that, the 54-year-old AR trigger-to-grip distance is short so that smaller people can use the firearm (designed for military use, it has to fit everyone). Now comes the Accu-Grip solution!

One of the most popular outlets for selling many of the parts to build an AR-style rifles says it has rules banning the listing of so-called “assault rifle†components, adding its regulations are in line with laws in its home state of California.
But a news investigation into the sales of AR parts on the world’s most popular auction site eBay shows many sellers either don’t know the rules or tweak their listings to circumvent algorithms alerting the company of the banned items. And despite officials at the company learning of the parts sales, the items remain on the site for weeks despite the rules.
Gun-rights supporters responded angrily. Right-wing media accused the Obama administration of an illegal move to restrict the Second Amendment. U.S. Rep. Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.) wrote a letter co-signed by 236 members of Congress to express their “serious concern.” Fifty-two senators also expressed their displeasure with the ATF’s proposal.
But in a Twitter post on Tuesday, the agency acknowledged the intense opposition to the change and said it would shelve the proposal for now.
“You spoke, we listened,†the post said. “@ATFHQ plans more study on the proposed AP Ammo exemption framework.â€
A statement on the agency’s website said the agency had received more than 80,000 opinions even before the comment period for the proposed regulatory change was due to end next Monday. The agency said the “vast majority of the comments received to date are critical†of the proposal.
“Accordingly, A.T.F. will not at this time seek to issue a final framework,†the statement said. “After the close of the comment period, A.T.F. will process the comments received†and “further evaluate the issues raised.â€
“Any ammunition is of concern to police in the wrong hands, but this specific round has historically not posed a law enforcement problem,” said James Pasco, executive director of the Washington office of the Fraternal Order of Police, the world’s largest organization of sworn law enforcement officers, with more than 325,000 members.
He told Secrets that the round used mostly for target practice “is not typically used against law enforcement.”
