Every Gun An “Assault Weapon”
Posted by Brian in Law, Opinion, Threat Watch on 5/Jul/2018 12:05
From Bearing Arms:
Following the Santa Fe High School shooter and the Capital Gazetteshooter both using shotguns, though, it seems that anti-gunners are trying to use that to open the door on broader restrictions.
The State of Concealed Carry Reciprocity
From The Truth About Guns:
One of the most hotly debated issues on the Second Amendment is over the right to carry firearms outside the home.  Today, each of the 50 states as well as the District of Columbia authorizes ordinary citizens to carry a handgun in most public places under one of the following three regimes:
- Constitutional Carry: 12 states
- Shall-Issue permit: 30 states and DC
- May-Issue permit: 8 states

Maryland Gov candidate suggests banning shotguns
From The Truth About Guns:
“We will, in the next [Maryland] legislative session, have to have a real conversation about how we finish the job here of our assault weapons ban. But we have to go much further. Journalists were killed with a shotgun.â€
Supreme Court Continues To Ignore Second Amendment Cases
Posted by Brian in Law, News, Threat Watch on 2/Jul/2018 13:29
From Reason:
Ten years ago this week, the Supreme Court for the first time explicitly recognized that the Second Amendment protects an individual right to armed self-defense. Since then the Court has revisited the subject only twice, while it has heard about 45 cases involving the Fourth Amendment and about 60 involving the First.
Gun Owners Defeat Delaware Gun Ban
Posted by Brian in Law, News, Threat Watch on 27/Jun/2018 07:00
From Delaware Online:
If you want to know why Delaware Democratscouldn’t even get an assault weapons ban on the Senate floor for a vote, here’s why: Gun owners are the ones who showed up.
Look no further than the packed Senate chambers on Tuesday’s vote. Opponents of the ban far outnumbered supporters.
Banks Continue Discriminating Against Gun Businesses
Posted by Brian in News, Threat Watch on 26/Jun/2018 14:36
From Yahoo:
In the wake of high-profile mass shootings, corporate America has been taking a stand against the firearms industry amid a lack of action by lawmakers on gun control. Payment processing firms are limiting transactions, Bank of America stopped providing financing to companies that make AR-style guns, and retailers like Walmart and Dick’s Sporting Goods imposed age restrictions on gun purchases.
The moves are lauded by gun-safety advocates but criticized by the gun industry that views them as a backhanded way of undermining the Second Amendment. Gun industry leaders see the backlash as a real threat to their industry and are coming to the conclusion that they need additional protections in Congress to prevent financial retaliation from banks.
Venezuelan Immigrant Has Questions For Gun Grabbers
From Guns.com:
Toward the end of the video Franco asked some very pointed questions which should be asked of anyone who wants to strip Americans of their Second Amendment rights. These questions are not only serious in nature but relevant to the discussion of gun control on a broader level.
Police Draw Guns On Open Carriers
From Guns.com:
Gun rights advocates are livid after Miami Beach Police on Sunday briefly detained a group of fishermen on a public pier over questions on their holstered handguns.
The anglers, members of Sunshine State gun rights group Florida Carry, are shown in a live-streamed video of the event being interviewed by responding officers who have their sidearms drawn. While the advocates, who were ultimately released after two hours, hold they were within their rights as state law allows for legal open carry while hunting or fishing, police feel they responded within guidelines.
Americans Have Changed, Not Guns
From TribLive.com:
What’s the difference between yesteryear and today? The logic of the argument for those calling for stricter gun control laws, in the wake of recent school shootings, is that something has happened to guns. Guns have behaved more poorly and become evil. Guns are the problem.
The job for those of us who are 65 or older is to relay the fact that guns were more available and less controlled in years past, when there was far less mayhem. Something else is the problem.
California Proposes Background Checks For Gun Parts
From Guns.com:
An Assembly bill now in the Senate would regulate “firearm precursor parts†sold in California through licensing, reporting and background checks.
The measure, AB 2383, passed the Democrat-controlled Assembly last month 45-29 and is currently working its way through the Senate. The proposal would mandate background checks on many of the components needed to build or repair firearms and regulate those who sell them through a licensing scheme. Supporters argue it will save lives.
NJ Sued Over New Gun Restrictions
From Townhall:
The Association of New Jersey Rifle and Pistol Clubs filed a lawsuit in federal court challenging the constitutionality behind the high-capacity magazine ban. ANJRPC filed the lawsuit immediately after Murphy signed the bill into law.
“This unconstitutional law will be ignored by criminals and madmen, and affects only law-abiding citizens,†ANJRPC executive director Scott Bach said in a statement. “It turns one million people into criminals with the stroke of a pen, limits self-defense, and takes away property lawfully acquired,†continued Bach. “Buy it yesterday, ban it today, go to prison tomorrow – it’s the Jersey way, and the goal of our lawsuit is to boot this law, which makes no one safer, into the trash heap of history where it belongs.â€
Deerfield Gun Ban Struck Down
From Townhall:
A judge blocked a ban on assault weapons and high capacity magazines in the small town of Deerfield, Illinois, less than 24 hours before it was meant to go into effect.
The decision, handed down Tuesday evening in the 19th Judicial Circuit Court in Lake County, Illinois, is a small victory for gun rights groups, who sued the Chicago suburb in April after it became the first municipality to ban assault weapons following the Parkland high school shooting. The Deerfield ordinance was passed unanimously by all six board members on April 2.
Gun Restriction Bill Fails In Delaware
From Guns.com:
Democrats in the state Senate failed on Tuesday to muscle through a rejuvenated bill to outlaw many semi-auto firearms while a gun seizure proposal had better luck.
